So I checked the SC forums for the first time in a while, just to see if there had been any new progress made, when I stumbled upon this gem of a thread:

    https://forums.robertsspaceindustrie...ng-since-sc/p1

I knew there were some crazy fans out there but that thread really made me shake my head. They should all just drink the "special" kool-aid now and prepare for when CR and his spaceship come to take them to the homeworld.

hehe, right after the Edge "Elite: Dangerous" interview, which specifically mentioned procedural content including planets.

I'm actually looking more forward to Elite at this stage

Depends on what year the actual initial release will be.

                                      1. I'll be amazed if it get's released

                                      2. I'll be even more amazed if it does get released, and the internet won't crash from fan rage.

It's impressive that a couple of pre-rendered videos a hangar bay module and a list of promised features can garner nearly $22 million dollars in pledges from the gaming community.
                                          however...

Chris Roberts has a great track record of producing space simulators from the likes of Wing Commander and Freelancer amongst others. His team are made up of industry veterans and the game itself promises something that really does seem to challenge the big boy in the space market, EVE online.

*shrugs* - I don't have any money invested in this game. So I'm not out anything regardless. But I wish the game, and its backers the best of luck.

I honestly do not believe it'll ever release if they plan to release it as one large, completed title.

The only way I can see them releasing it feature-complete, is in segments. Maybe in 2016 or 2017 when they have one or two very detailed sectors done, released it. I'm talking tons of space stations, planets, nebulas, and other phenomena to explore and discover. Then in a year or two release an expansion that adds another two or three equally detailed sectors, while maybe even adding content to the original two sectors.

Do this repeatedly, much as Blizzard has expanded the WoW universe with expansions, and I can see it working.

The fact they're going with a procedural universe helps them some, but I question how vibrant and living a procedural universe could truly be.

Regardless, I await patiently and optimistically. I've only pledged the bare minimum thus far, so I'm not out a whole lot if it flops. But if it keeps progressing in the right direction, and they deliver on their promises, well this has the potential to quite literally be my dream game- the game to trump all other games for me. It could quite easily become the single title I play, and what pushes me to continue forking out money to maintain a top-end gaming system.

I am hoping it succeeds, as if it does I'd benefit greatly from countless hours of enjoyment.

that is exactly what has been planned since the beginning people need to actually read about the project.

There will be a singel player story game that will get finished and done and then a mmo where they will just keep adding stuff. I think people are confusing the 2. They are making 2 games not 1

I think I'd rather have the full 60 missions rather than 10 at a time.

Considering that the alpha for SQ42 is supposed to be August of this year (DFM isn't even due to be out until April) I think we'll be lucky to have 1 mission in total, if it even gets released this decade.

Technically, the dog fighting module is the first step towards the MMO. So I would say the MMO is coming first, if I were to make such a distinction at all.
