Torchlight 2 Beta Keys

I don't expect Torchlight 2 to beat D3 at release, but one significant advantage that Torchlight 2 has over Diablo 3 is that it has mod support. The first game had tons of mods and it was only a single player game.

having a blast aswell, then again I also had a blast with torchlight 1
it isn't earthshattering or groundbreakingly different, it is just extremely fun and incredibly streamlined.

As for the haters, just don't play it. I am playing it in parallel with Diablo and enjoying it immensely. Plus, it's nice to know my boss fight won't be interrupted because my adsl decided to re-sync

2) no mini game at all
right now it is the same boring mini game, with no skill required whatsoever. That's the reason why I play Torchlight 1 with the fish drop mod (enemies actually drop fish as loot every once in a while)
Ps. Total Biscuit is loving Torhclight 2

I played the beta for a bit, not bad but I think I will wait for a 33 or 50% off sale which shouldn't be too long. The Steam summer sale isn't far away so I may as well wait and pickup some bargains then.

I'm not saying it's bad; I'm just describing it to the best of my ability.
Other than the Diablo plotline (really, they couldn't come up with something better than the "hero from the first one is now the villain in the second" plotline?),
I could be playing a continuation of the first game, and I wouldn't have noticed.

The best description is probably: This game is "Lantern Glow," the Chinese copy of Torchlight where the overall look and feel is the same but it's really a different game.

For example, one of the Embermage skills gives you X damage (based on your level) of every elemental type, plus a 10% chance of doing elemental DoTs. That's with 1 point in it. If you put a second point in, the skill does X damage (based on your level), plus an 11% chance of doing DoTs. So for 1 skill point, you get a whole extra 1% chance of DoTs. And there are quite a few skills where you get similar poor returns for point increases.
Frankly, the beta has felt like a letdown. I was hoping they'd take Torchlight 1 and really polish it, but it doesn't feel like that's what they've done.

Actually a good deal. The ability score system is completely different. Now only strength controls damage - for ranged and melee weapons. Dexterity just deals with critical chances and dodge and those kind of details. Focus is now Magic and it still deals with elemental damage but also helps you recover from "fumbles" (which I have yet to see) and has some other stuff. Vitality is defense and HP.
The pet now has its own specific "rings" and necklace and can't use "people" ones. And it can come back from town with potions and scrolls. There looks like a lot more magic spells - including passive ones that are basically skills.
The "fish" item panel is not "consumables" so your inventory won't be full of potions and scrolls if you don't have the spells for them. And also you can't combine gems any more. Presumably to encourage people to actually use them instead of hoarding them until they could combine them into awesome ones.

Frankly, the game feels like Torchlight 1 with multiplayer. Sadly, with a poorer skill system. They did make a few changes which have already been mentioned, but beyond that, it's really just an extension of what Torchlight 1 had.
The skills, frankly, seem extremely poorly done. For example, one of the Embermage skills gives you X damage (based on your level) of every elemental type, plus a 10% chance of doing elemental DoTs. Then there's another skill, forget what it's called, that does a really short range "stream" attack. Fine, except it's also got a knockback to it. So what you end up doing is hitting a mob with it, who's then pushed out range, causing you to stop attacking, move closer, then try and resume doing damage. It's a real pain in the ass.
Frankly, the beta has felt like a letdown. I was hoping they'd take Torchlight 1 and really polish it, but it doesn't feel like that's what they've done.

I'm actually not complaining about Torchlight 2. Unlike what you do in the Diablo 3 thread.

Torchlight was a mediocre arpg. I'm sure that torchlight 2 will be a good game for the price but it has a long way to go live up to the better ARPGs on the market. You know that I'm right.

Must mean Diablo II was just an overpriced trash title because it took basically the same amount of time after Diablo as Torchlight II is taking after Torchlight.
Are the Blizzard servers down again so the only thing you have to do is go around on forums and put down other ARPGs to convince yourself that Diablo was worth it?

Torchlight was a good time waster for the price but it was no top notch arpg, not by a long shot.
You do a lot of bitching about games that you've never played, btw.

Enjoying the beta, does look though that similar to Torchlight 1 , normal difficulty is actually super easy. Not sure if one can change the difficulty on the fly this time (without mods)
Have you tried Engineer? Gun bot is going to get the hell nerfed out of it.

Have the beta ready to play, but haven't played the diablo 3 beta or game, so can't compare.
There is a rather nice TL2 beta review on the runic games fansite (beware massive amounts of text).
Althought the name suggests otherwise it is a rather nice review which compares it to diablo 3 here and there in a rather unbiased way (basically, TL 2 gameplay is great but it doesn't have the mood and athmosphere of diablo 3 and the storytelling is rather poor comparing to diablo 3)

yea i got a beta key too but i'm too deep into diablo 3 to care much about torchlight 2 right now. if anyone wants it, just let me know. i should mention this... the email i got says that the beta is already activated on my runic account, but then they give a key along with the email too. so i'm not really sure if the key will work for someone else's account.
