Good to see, my current classic + ironman playthrough, the moment I launched the last satellite I had yet to loose a single country. Then lost Japan only because the game refused me a terror attack there for two months. Now it's all covered 1300 or sth a month and every country is at level one panic.

On the other hand I don't want to play impossible + ironman anymore, it forces too cautios gameplay and gamey sheningans like noone moving a single tile beyond the guy on the front during fight and I refuse to play this way. Btw that resource to collect in Enemy Within is a great idea (at least on paper), rewarding agressive play. It is still inherently flawed with how advancing is just a gamble but at least it's not just simply a mistake 90% of time.

Anyway hope that classic difficulty in EW is somwhere between classic and impossible, am getting it tommorow so will see.

    My 40nm path :nuts: HIS HD 5850 -> GIGABYTE GTX 470 -> ZOTAC GTX 480 -> HIS HD 6950@70 -> MSI GTX 570 -> ZOTAC GTX 470 -> PNY GTX 580

    Garth Merenghi quotes
Most of you will probably know me already from my extensive canon of chillers including "Afterbirth" in which a mutated placenta attacks Bristol.

Everyone has a special talent. Mine is being able to write, produce direct, act, paint... Other people are good plumbers, that's their gift.

There are rebels and there are innovators. I'm a rebel. I play a rebel brain expert who's in rebelliance against conventional logic, who's in rebelliance against the world order. It's about rebelliance. And if that's not being an innovator, I don't know what is.

In times of conflict, when you're up against an agressor, be he human, be he inhuman, whoe'er he be, often he is both.

Greetings traveller. Who am I? Perhaps you have met me twixt sleep and and wake - in the penumbra of uncertainity you call unconsiousness... you know, my books are essentialy about "what ifs". In "Black Fang" I asked - what if a rat could drive a bus? And what if it and its rat brethren took over and ate Parliment?

A lot of people say "Garth Merenghi? Doesn't he write that horror crap?" Well, you're an idiot, because my books always say something, even if it's simple like "Don't geneticaly engineer crabs to be as big as man". There's always a message or a theme.

Classic Ironman + EW -> I named my first heavy Alan "Dutch" Schaefer and he went all the way to the temple ship.

Proper naming clearly makes a difference

:: Too little and the ground is not fertile and nothing can grow there.
:: Too much and best of us is washed away.

Indeed, I/I is just too much of a chore and excessive use of explosives.
I find Classic Ironman a good mix (you can always turn on all 2nd wave options, too).

So I'm playing Xcom Enemy Within.

Lot of fun. Some maps are the same as EW and the expansion. But having Robot/Terminator mofos in your team is awesome!!

I couldn't play enemy within. I thought it was an expansion. It was more like DLC. They got me for it.

So I'm addicted to this new Enemy Within game. I thought "Enemy Unknown" was gold on its own, but this new pack really adds TONS of value to the game!!!
                    Now Playing:
                    Joe Dever's: Lone Wolf (NS)

I am super LTTP but finally finished the Enemy Unknown campaign.

First time I tried to play it I didn't really like it, but I guess due to the excitement of XCOM 2 I got interested enough to play through it this time. Definitely a fun game but some striking flaws.

Firstly the repetitiveness is quite strong in this one. Was certainly getting quite tedious towards the end and honestly when I finally beat the last mission I did not even watch the ending cut scene. Just no interest at all in the story.

Also the hit/miss system in this game is seriously I don't get how it decides what is a hit or miss. Its percentage based yet a 90+% chance will consistently miss no matter how many times you try it?? I just don't get it, and don't get me started on missing enemies at point blank range and not in cover. Just kills the immersion.

Well anyways, I still enjoyed it and wondering if I should bother with Enemy Within or just go right to XCOM 2.

Go right to xcom 2 IMO.

Purely coicidence I just saw this post on the front page of reddit linking to this gfy complaining about this same issue in xcom 2. So don't expect too much to change in that department if you move to the sequel.

Didn't enemy within just add a bunch of new features to the original campaign?

Added some new powers and abilities to soldiers iirc. Not worth playing if he was slogging through xcom eu. Xcom 2 improves the game and a new story so I would so just go to that directly whenever it gets to your game queue.

OK yeah I will skip Enemy Within, at least for now. Definitely had my fill of this XCOM. I was thinking of picking EW up on that last Steam sale. Even for only $7.99 glad I passed.

Yeah I'd be lying to say I didn't rage at least a couple of times in EU during situations just like that. ****ing game.

I'd honestly wait for a couple of patches before playing Xcom 2, it has a lot of janky stuff going on right now.

Oh I didn't mean I was going to play it soon, just whether or not I should completely skip EW and XCOM 2 would be the next one I'd play. I probably wont buy XCOM 2 until its $30 because I'm not really a big fan of these games.

Shame since its a PC exclusive which I would like to fully support.

The hit and miss thing, with a 90+ percent shot missing repeatedly is because the seed code for random chance is saved into your save files, so if you load the game and make all the same choices you will get exactly the same outcomes. In order for you to get a different outcome, you need to change the movment or placing of your character to get an 89 or 91 percent chance instead of the original 90.

I think, in in enemy within, there was an option to make the random rolls every time, instead of saving them to the save file, but i could be mistaken. I do know that most four x games these days have that option toggeable though
Never put off tomorrow what you can put off today!

OK I guess that would make sense, and seems obvious they did that to deter people from just reloading quicksaves until they got the outcome they wanted.

                                                I can understand their reasoning.
