When slain first came out, it was a mess. They basically remastered the game and fixed a bunch of stuff to get what you played. Also, slain isnt a prequel, it came first, its a much older game.

Slain: Back from Hell
A side-scroller action game. It's from the same designer as Valfaris, so has a lot of the same aspects. Same pixel art style and heavy metal theme. I think it's supposed to be a prequel to Valfaris, but they don't play exactly the same. I think you can usually get them as a bundle for cheap.
This one is mostly a melee combat side-scroller. Your main weapon is a sword, so you're fighting in close. You have a magic projectile attack, but it's limited usage. You refill your mana by making parry counter-attacks or a charged sword attack. The combat is fairly simple. A quick melee attack, the charged sword attack and a reverse dash for a dodge. Only a few enemy types. A few you can just slash away at, and a few you need to counter attack.
The appeal of this game is the difficulty. It's pretty brutal. A lot of easy to miss traps that can insta-kill you. And the combat can be difficult. All you really have to refill your life is the occasional checkpoint. So you need to play well for a stretch of time or else you die and restart at the last checkpoint. But, at the same time, the difficulty is offset by the fact that you just respawn and try again. Not much penalty for dying hundreds of time other than restarting the last checkpoint. So you can just grind through.
Overall, I liked Valfaris better. It felt more polished, and had the combination of guns and melee combat.
Slain is really short. Depending on how much you die, the game is only a few hours long. I think I put in about 8 hours total. There weren't many secrets and I don't think there were alternate paths, so there isn't much replay value.
Probably a good candidate for speedrunning or doing challenges like no deaths or not getting hit. But I played the GOG version, so there were no achievements. And those types of challenges would be really difficult for this game given how hard it is.

Finished Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. This was the last game in the Castlevania Advance collection.
It's Gameboy Advance era graphics, so nothing impressive. But it is the most polished release in the collection and the animations looks smoother than the other games. This game is the best of the collection.
This game largely plays like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Makes sense since this is an earlier game from Iga, the same creator. Standard metroidvania stuff. Explore the castle, collect weapons and armor and abilities to advance, gain XP, etc. Like Bloodstained, each enemy drops a soul that gives you more abilities. So there are tons and tons of abilities, most of which you will never bother to use. Basically, all that's missing from Bloodstained is improved graphics, quests and crafting. Even the final boss is a swirling enemy like Bloodstained.
While the game is very good, it suffers the same problems as similar games do. Insanely low drop rate, so if you want to collect everything (which you don't need to do) it will take forever, and offers not a lot of benefit. By the time you actually get the rare drops you'll have to have killed so many enemies and gained so many levels that you'll be way overpowered to the point that any drops don't matter anymore.

played through Bramble: The Mountain King in one go. Great visuals, awesome score, gritty lil game. Liked it. Although it's very short.
Now back to my re-play of Divine Divinity 2: Definitve Edition. Still easily one of the best rpgs i've played. Still looking fo a cheap second (non GoG) key for my wife because she wants to play it too.

I was level 33 when I fought the level 35 baddie at the end, so that was pretty tough. I'd recommend most people to be at least level 35 before doing the final main quest mission. Good story overall. 8/10

Started pumping Ghost Wire Tokyo on GP. Seems like another one of shitty games that you start playing but get bored pronto like Atomic Heart. What's with talking stuff in games these days. This is the third game I am playing with someone talking back constantly. Wtf.

Man, this gold bar has a scratch on it, not like my other gold bar i got a week ago. This gold bar is ****.

And unfortunately, I do not feel Prey was ever excellent - I didn't think so back then, don't think so today. By comparison, Half-Life 2 is two years older and by far the superior experience. It makes Prey look like a game from 2002 with its non-existent character animation, rudimentary enemy design and behavior, mod-level quality vehicle sections... Another comparison would be Portal. Just one year younger, it blows Prey out of the water in terms of what's done with portals.
Prey '06 is not bad per se - I got through the game after all - but it certainly wasn't a match for the actual good games of the era.

Tried to get back into Wolcen, it's somehow just not fun, i can't even tell why.
Same goes for (T)ESO, i suddenly remembered why i stopped playing it back then, it's the ****** level scaling amongst a lot of other stuff
Still foolin around in Last Epoch.
Starting Wigmund is the next thing i guess.

Still on Elden Ring (75hrs) & Rocksmith 2014 (2053hrs)
Currently considering speed running last sections of Elden Ring, to complete Zelda Botw before Tears drops in May.

A boring shooter with some interesting concepts and level design - but too sporadic to be an enjoyable experience overall other than to waste some time.

Played through Metal Slug XX.
It's pretty much the same as the others. Contra-like side scrolling shooter. Fun, but short. The game is difficult, but they give you infinite continues, so you can just keep dying until you win.
I did spend a stupid amount of time on the game. This one has challenges, which are tied to achievements. Things like, beat a level or a boss without dying, and speed runs. It extended the game's short play time to give you something to attempt to master. Made for a good podcast game.

well, i really wished it had an option to mark spots on the map, would've made a lot of things SO much easier, but that aside i really liked it. Also it would've been nice to know that some of the (side) quests were time-limited

Finished Gotham Knights campaign as Robin. Gotta say, I enjoyed it more than the last Arkham game with all of the forced Batmobile interactions for the sake of forcing you to use the batmobile to limb skyscrapers and drive on top of walls.

Finished the Italian campaign though, will start the 'regular' campaign soon!

EDIT: incase you are curious, wolcen just released a big update as well. actually looks like it could be maybe time to think about the idea of possibly giving it another try at deciding if its something you could... buh, maybe worth playing again.
