Completed Steelrising, a souls-like game from Spiders (a gamedev known for some eurojank games like Technomancer and Greedfall). The game starts out a bit rough/clunky but once you get the hang of the combat, enemyAI and level design, it starts to click and quickly felt like a game I enjoyed playing. The difficulty is quite lower than most Souls-clones but still serviceable, while the level design is the star of the show. While the environments can sometimes be bland or repetitive, the layouts of the multi-story levels with its shortcuts and secrets are worthy of the Souls genre.

After about an hour of fiddling with the 'fans' (the default agility weapon used in all the trailers), I restarted with a slower hard hitting strength weapon and was immediately enjoying myself a lot more - completed the game with it in fact.
Expect a lot of backtracking if you want to complete all the sidequests as there is no fast travel between bonfires. Also the performance is also subpar for the visuals, there still needs to be some performance patches imo. Overall it surpassed my expectations and I enjoyed the time I spent with it.

Did they fix the issue where you could just grenade bosses to death in a few seconds?

I played melee only so I didn't even know that existed. IMO most souls-likes are a lot more fun melee only, at least for your first run.

Started playing Grow: Song of the Evertree, had to put it down because it's one of these very rare games that give me horrendous motion sickness.

I liked it overall but think the original Quake has aged better than Half-Life.

On another note, and I've noticed this with Max Payne, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, Clive Barker's Undying, and now Half-Life is that the mouse input feels so much better in older games. I played all these games recently and the mouse input feels "telepathic" and moves exactly how I would want it to when moving the mouse. Aiming becomes natural. I feel (some/most) modern games seem to have some sort of lag/input lag that makes the mouse input not feel as natural/good as these older games. Aiming becomes something that you have to put effort into rather than doing it naturally without thinking.

This is because in the old days (many) games were developed with the PC as a primary target platform, whereas nowadays consoles are the primary target platform and the PC platform gets a port. Not all developers will take the time to ensure that the PC port gets the 'raw / un-accelerated' mouse input that PC gamers prefer, and some left over code from the console controllers tend to stick around. That said it isn't as bad as it used to be, most ports nowadays are fairly competent on this specific issue.

Well I finished Far Cry 6. Fortunately it got better and ended up being decent. Something about the starter island that annoyed me or just maybe I didn't play it properly early on. I may have judged it harshly, although it still has flaws. Late in the game there is one boss who was in a chopper and the chopper took like 12+ rounds from the grenade launcher, compared to regular choppers which take maybe 2-3. That kind of stuff is just dumb

Once it opens up and you can just do your own thing, and tutorials go away, it plays much better. Obviously a good chunk of time is doing bases and capturing checkpoints (mini bases). Stealth works okay when you get set up properly with weapons. The three regions with three groups you recruit is a decent framework and I thought it had some funny moments. Then there are stories and treasure hunts and races and a few other tasks. It probably has the most stuff to do of any far cry game and most of it is good enough to go back to it.

                        .

Aiko's choice was a great expansion for Shadow Tactics. 3 big missions, 2 small missions and an epilogue. Good fun.

Played a few rounds of Warlander, very fun game. But the Anti-Cheat-Engine is a PITA, absolutely intrusive BS par excellence. If they fix this (which i doubt they will) the game is great fun for some casual romps.

“Warlander is a roguelike action game with real-time mesh slicing where players can cut through enemies and chop them into pieces. Violence is graphical but not overexaggerated.”

Battle in arenas with interactive environment, where every run will be one of a kind. Experience a variety of abilities and power-ups, along with permadeath. Slice, Die, Repeat.

I need to finish Ori and the Wisp nonsense. I doubt I will be able to remember the key+mouse controls after all this time that I didn't play it.

                                  Pumping Dead Space.
Pumping MW2 MP still even though I finished BP.
Pumping NFS new one. So bad I even forgot the title.
Also installed Hi Fi Rush which apparently is a great game.

Not many games keeping my attention these days. Had to sub for a 15 dollar ride in Dead Space.

Trying Death Stranding... buggiest piece of **** I've ever played. Crashes in about 1/3 of the cut scenes, and the game is virtually all cut scene. Doesn't save before a cut scene so you get to do things over and over again. So I have to skip all cut scenes/story in order to play the actual game?

Have tried the exploit protection stuff, turning off DLSS, setting exe priority to High, turning down max framerate, disabling high detail models and reducing memory for "streaming", etc. None work.

I'd given up on it but decided to try one more time. I set an exception for Bitdefender for the whole install directory. The crash that happened at one point repeatedly vanished. Something the program wanted to do, that got blocked, ends up crashing it.

you need to make an exception for most games. Shouldnt really be running virus software on game files while the programs are running. If you need to scan them, run them manually on the folder.

I have NEVER had a problem before. I have 0 exceptions until this one. Granted I don't buy nearly as many games as some of you guys, so might be that I'm just avoiding the problems. (seems more likely in console ports.)

Im sure there are many people who never encountered the problem. The issue is you are using two programs to access the same files, one that often locks the files while reading, the other attempting to write to those files, causing a crash. Some games dont have this problem at all, some have it a lot. Most people probs wont even notice. You just got unlucky with the game.

Been playing the hell out of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla on PC. Really digging it, but starting to get burned out. I'm about 120hrs in so far. Only one territory left to conquer, and digging the story so it's not too bad. Character is at power level 402 and climbing. Just running around swatting every enemy in the game like flies at this point.

Just finished Mario Odyssey on the Switch also. The amount of moons to find in that game is insane. I finished it at around 220 moons, where there are supposedly 800 to find plus additional bonus levels I haven't unlocked. I'll fire it up and play here and there, but moved on to Metroid: Dread. Metroid is surprisingly difficult, but fun. Picked up Luigi's Mansion 3 to play next.

Just finished Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance.

Another one from the Castlevania Advance collection. Pretty standard Metroidvania, obviously with Gameboy Advance era graphics. Probably a little better than the previous (by release date) Circle of the Moon in this collection. They made the random drops even more of a grind to collect, but at least in this one the drops really make no impact in gameplay. You might sometimes get slightly better armor, but that's about it. Usually better items are found by exploring, and there are no special magic powerups in drops like the previous game. The boss fights were fairly easy.

Probably the biggest complaint is how so much of the game's functionality was kind of hidden. Maybe this was because this was still in the 'read the manual' era. But I didn't figure out how to fast travel between points until I accidentally knelt in front of a portal until like 3/4 of the way through, so I wasted a lot of time backtracking like a noob.

                                                                    Comment

Finished Shadow Warrior 3. They completely doom 2 the whole thing. The whole game plays like Doom Eternal. However, for me that was a good thing. Also the banter wasn’t annoying and I was OK with the trash talk. Solid 8/10 especially since gunplay is dope af.

                                                                      Comment

Started Wild Hearts. Seems like a monster hunter clone in a good way. However, game hitches like a bitch on crack. So bad that half the time I am trying to dodge and miss it. Some good ideas with building stuff like Fortnite I guess. Won’t be buying until it is on sale.

Started Atomic Heart. Good intro and quite liked the visuals as well even without raytracing. However, gameplay doesn’t give confidence. Will indulge a bit later.

On track 8 of Hi Fi Rush. Absolutely stunning game and visuals but QTE galore. Had to enable accessibility options as I can’t parry worth a damn in this game. Also I can’t find my rhythm. Will try to finish.

Hogwarts Legacy. Enjoying it quite a bit surprisingly. Still seems like I am in tutorial mode even after 3 hours. Will push more once I finish Hi Fi Rush.

MW2 SP2. Such a weak season pass. Really don’t like it. Didn’t even bother to level up anything yet. Also no shipment 24/7, no play.

I also want to play through Monkey Island and Life is Strange True Colors but not finding the time. Also those games are so slow and sometimes dialog is unskippable which pisses me off.

I have so many games installed but just not finding the time to finish them. There is also Ghost Recon Breakpoint which I have been trying to finish for past 3-4 years or something. Sometimes I wish I could just take off and play games day and night.

                                                                        Comment

KAC, stop playing half a million games simultaneously. You can't finish everything. Drop Wild Heart's stuttering, drop COD's multiplayer, drop Atomic Heart and focus on the cool games.

I started playing The Captain. It reminds me of the Star Trek games from the early 90s: part point and click adventure, part space ship simulator, all parts wacky. I think I got it for free on the Epic Store, because I certainly don't remember looking into the game, let alone paying for it.

Steamworld Build: From the well known franchise , this time a building sim. Not bad, but it seems to be a bit too easy so far.

Wayfinder (closed Beta): a MMO, graphic is cool, gameplay also not bad. So far i like it.

Playing Scars Above and it's not too shabby. Didn't think it started great; a bit rough around the edges. But it's decent enough when you get the hang of the action and weaknesses. If you die you respawn at pillars (bit like fireplaces in souls games) and they can be far apart so it's certainly going to annoy people who prefer steady forward progress. But I don't think the game is hard on normal though, if anything it seems to be getting easier because you get more gadgets and steady upgrades. For the price range I guess it's about what you expect in terms of presentation and quality.

                                                                                Comment

Playing Hogfarts Legacy. Game is pretty mediocre. There is a ton of lore which I don’t care about. So I am just pumping most of the main quests only.
