So I am currently rotating between The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt so I can finish it off, Guacamelee 2 which is very enjoyable and Remnant: From the ashes which I got for free on Epic game store and I am having serious fun with it.

played some Final Fantasy World, well, the kawai look aside it's surprisingly complex underneath all the sd chars. Feels a lot like the earlier ff-games. So far i'm having a lot of fun with it. I guess it would be a great game for our princess Seyiji too

Just finished Quantum Break. I did complete it last year using a mouse and keyboard and I was curious to see how it looked using the Special K mod features so I gave it another go using a gamepad. Special K fixed the frame rate issues I had with the game when I originally played, improved the smoothness and response times and the HDR retrofitting (is that the right word) made the game look gorgeous. The combat in this game (and Control) is extremely enjoyable, probably some of the best, but there is too much story in those games.....I just want to shoot people in the game.

Been playing Inside which is fiendishly fun and atmospheric. Is a fan of limbo and this game scratches the itch....and it looks fantastic in HDR.

Inside was nice, although a bit short. Liked it a lot.

Completed Playdead's Inside (sorry lads, no George Takei "oh my" follow up). What an extremely enjoyable yet distressing experience (that final act....shudders and wow).

Got too many irons in the fire right now.

Cyberpunk - doing side quests. Helping River Ward find his nephew. Brandance sequence is bugged... Clues aren't highlighting. Needs patch.

Star Wars: Force Unleashed I: Retail version. Runs at 1440p with a config file modification, and stuck at 30 FPS. Downloaded a new executable from the internet and it allows for 60 FPS. Impressed as old as it is how ahead of its time it was with the upgrade system. Gameplay is bland but it looks like it will get better. Made it to the trash planet.

Genesis Alpha One: Everything takes forever in this game, and then an enemy battleship shows up and invades your ship and your modules get blown up and you float in space and you die. Current run is the longest surviving one; got smart and backtracked the galaxy to find easier planet systems. I'm 51% keep going, 49% shelve it forever.

Brigador: About 1/4 through the campaign. Tight 2D shooter with an unimaginable level of nuance with different vehicles/weapons/capabilities.

Mortal Shell: Great game. Keep getting my ass kicked so little progress is made over and over. Wish there were a manual.

Ghostrunner: Not gud enough for this one. Keep killing all dudes except one in a room, and end up f***ing up and dying. Want to keep going but the lack of save is intimidating before starting another attempt at progress.

Godfall: Easy game to play until you get to the one boss that keeps kicking your ass. Defeated that boss after grinding XP, might be on the cusp of finishing.

Decided to go back and finish Uncharted 4 last weekend, started over and finished it over the course of last weekend. Started playing Last of Us after beating Uncharted. Finished it on Friday. Beat the Left Behind DLC Saturday morning. Currently playing through Last of Us 2 now. These might be my all time favorite games.

Are you playing these on the PS5? Because these games are dope on the PS5 + OLED.

PS4 Pro - I sold the PS5 for a profit a while back, theres no games for it and Uncharted / Last of Us get no benefit from playing on PS5. But yeah they are insane on the CX OLED.

You are probably already aware since you looked into a framerate cap fix, but just wanted to say Force Unleashed suffers from some physics based issues when you set it to 60 fps. From the PC Gaming Wiki page:

Some force-gripped objects and enemies will constantly move upwards when using the 50 and 60 FPS .exes;[5][6][7][8] if this happens, use the 40 FPS .exe.
I reinstalled that game a few months back to see if I would finally enjoy it and I found it as dull as before when I couldn't get through it. Its just a boring game.

I thought Uncharted 4 was ported? What was the 15-16 games with PS+ about? They never ported those games?

slowly making my way through Pine. It has a few bugs, but they are minor. Just wish it weren't so boring, but hey, it was free .. so there's that.

I can confirm that those physics issues exist at 60 FPS, and was not aware that was the cause of me not being able to de-float force held objects. I thought it was because it was designed to be used with a controller lol.

40 FPS, eh? I don't know if I can do it for a game that looks like this. Feels kind of insulting.

Yeah for sure. Sad when PC ports are not optimized correctly and essentially no different than the console versions.

IMO for me the game really wasn't worth the time. I got about halfway through it and just found it boring. I have lost a lot of my love for the Star Wars franchise though.

Finished Watch Dawgs 2. 7.5/10. Good game but was overstaying it’s welcome towards the end. Didn’t bother with any side missions. Just did the mains. Good thing about these games is that you can pretty much do the mains without indulging in artificial lockouts of leveling up. Story was decent and seemed quite relevant even today. SF depiction was also nice. A graphics update would make the game stand out even today.

Leveled a Duelist/Slayer to L90 in Path of Exile Ritual league. The league mechanic is enjoyable in that it's simplistic yet engaging, and it integrates well with the base game by not needing separate zones etc. It's pretty much Breach in a slightly different form, so it's not surprising the playerbase has had a positive reaction as Breach is often mentioned in 'favorite league' threads.

While fun to play the base game still needs some QoL (quality of life) updates, the lack of competition in the online-arpg genre has allowed ggg to ignore most of the playerbase's requests regarding small fixes that would go a long way.

I don't usually take the time to come here and talk about my game progress since I play so much, but I did want to mention I just replayed the original Max Payne for the first time since it was released. Got the craving to replay a bunch of Remedy's games since playing Control, so I will likely also replay through Max Payne 2 and Alan Wake next. Maybe Max Payne 3 as well but while still a good game it wasn't done by Remedy.

But I was just blown away by how well Max Payne still holds up. Just incredibly fun to play even 20 years after release. It is a true classic in every metric. Also I initially had some issues getting it to run on my system due to some weird incompatibility the game has with Ryzen CPUs. But after consulting the PC Gaming Wiki I learned there's a community FixPack which includes a bunch of modern fixes that got the game running perfectly, even for UW resolutions.

If anyone's wondering if its worth playing through today I would say absolutely yes. They just don't make awesome twitchy gameplay narrative driven single player games anymore like this.

had almost the same experience with the old Black & White games, took me a while to get em running but it was worth the hassle (for fans that is, of course). And yes, some games age better than others. Sometimes the awesome memory of a game from back then fails you. Some things should be left as what they are, good memories.

I'm a big nostalgia junkie (as you may know from the Game Collecting thread) so I love digging up old game gems and giving them a replay. You're right some age better than others. From what I've found it almost always depends on if the gameplay holds up, and not the graphics. You can have a good looking older game but if the gameplay isn't timeless the good graphics alone can't carry it. Graphics whores may disagree but good gameplay always trumps visuals. Some of those old classics absolutely thrash a lot of the modern junk we get nowadays in fun factor.

Finished Hitman 2, finished a few Escalation missions, had some fun with the sniper missions and added content. It didn't resonate as strongly as Hitman (2016) did, but that makes sense considering it's a sequel within the same world, story and gameplay.

Having finished Dishonored 2 just a few months ago, I decided to spin through Dishonored: Death of the Outsider as well. What I love most about DotO is that as Billy Lurk, it makes much more sense to play violently compared to the previous games. Corvo and Emily were essentially good people trying to restore good to the empire. But as assassin Lurk, there's much less reason to tip-toe around your enemies. It's liberating, refreshing, to play through a Dishonored game leaving no-one standing by the end of a mission.

(Sure, D1 and D2 could be played with that exact same play style, but it didn't really fit the narrative and you'd even be punished for it. No such objections in Death of the Outsider! )

So between full time job + two kids, I don't get much time for gaming.
(I have one dedicated game night a week, where I get ~2 hours to play).

This led to me doing more game streaming, via steamlink to my phone. Some games work well with touchscreen controls, like PGA2K21. Most others? Not so much.

Then I learned a modded PSVita could use moonlight gaming. Got one, jailbroke it, and am now getting lots of "5 minutes here and there" gameplay.

Started the PGA tour in PGA2k21, started out horrible, changed some conroller settings and am now playing great.

My wife bought a Switch for Christmas 2018.
I bought Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Christmas 2019.
I played all of 15 minutes before life and other things got in the way.

Started over again this week, and now I'm in the groove. First impression of course is that it's ugly, low resolution, graphically bland. But at the same time, it's rich, exciting, interesting, challenging when you least expect it. I've long wanted to play an open world game with an emphasis on exploring the world and its mechanics - Zelda scratches that itch in a way no Assassin's Creed game ever has.

Roaming the Plateau in the opening hours, my mind drifts back about twenty years, all the way to Outcast. Which just so happens to be my favorite game. It's rare for any game to spark such feelings.

I hope that's a sign of things to come.

BotW was a great game simply for the exploration value alone.

As a Zelda game I did like it, but I missed the traditional Zelda dungeons. Wasn't a huge fan of what they did for dungeons in BotW. Still a great game though.

I think for any fan, it's definitely worth it. The game is still really cool. The remake didn't change any fundamentals (unless you consider switching prone to crouching fundamental). It just tightened some of the controls, and made it look like a cartoony modern game again. The original atmosphere is retained, in great part because the world design and music are still phenomenal.

There's no upscaling Eurojank though, so you'll always get that in some form.
