On memory DS had good sound as well.
In DS 2 it just seems much more refined.
It appears they made quite an effort in that direction.
Some of the necro screams make me shiver, and I think all electronic, mechanic and structural noises are amazing and create a truly believable and creepy atmosphere.

How does Dead Space's sound design compare to that of Dead Space 2's? The same or was there an improvement?

    update

found out the update is a new exe which should unlock all items as well as fix a few issues but it is recommended to install after first playthrough, since it will act as a spoiler.

For those of you with AMD cards, I STRONGLY suggest to install the latest RadeonPro Preview build and enable FXAA and SMAA in the game's profile.
I just tried playing with both at medium level, and the jaggies ar COMPLETELY gone without any evident performance hit so far. Graphics look incredible now.

Just got this with amazon today, installed and can't stop playing. I'm having a blast and even using a gamepad!
Is it me or some of the textures are actually worst than the first DS?

Jumped off my chair a couple times, excellent game so far.

EDIT: btw, was the game ever patched, should I look for one? Origin says nothing, gamershell has one posted.

Well, I went back to an earlier save and tried running through with the Force Gun to knock guys out of the way, and it worked better. This time I also have some med packs, whereas before I had none, so hopefully it will go better. Thank goodness I kept multiple saves along the way or I'd have been screwed.

Edit: This time it was pretty easy. Using the Force Gun was the trick. It got me past all the enemies, and also in the final battle quickly took care of the guys attacking me. I might have been able to beat the final battle before actually, as it didn't turn out to be that hard. It helped actually having med packs though.

Funny thing is after the last battle there's a cut scene, and after that you're back in control of yourself flying. But I didn't even realize I was back in control, and just kept watching because I thought it was still a cut scene. It seemed like it was taking forever, and I was like, wtf? And then my guy hit some debris and died.

    Pretty good game overall.

I'm playing on Zealot and it doesn't seem possible to run. All it takes is a single necromorph hitting me and I die. I don't see how it's possible to run by them all without taking a hit at some point, especially with the ones that shoot the three projectiles. One hit at full health from them and I die.

Difficulty seemed fine to me. Game was a little under 7 hours for me. In the last sections, you need to run not stay back to shoot everything. Is that what you are referring to?

Also game is difficult for those who experimented a lot with weaponry in terms of upgrading and not keeping the same upgraded weapon to max out an upgrade. For example the pistol equivalent and assault rifle equivalents are all you really need to max out. Other guns you should only max damage and leave everything else (where ever possible).

Also max out your health, you will need it.

I tried out some of the other guns. The pulse rifle was pretty good, although I never really used its secondary fire. I even used the flamethrower for a while, and it was decent when you powered it up a little, but a lot of times the fact it couldn't kill instantly really bit me in the ass.

Only real issue I have is it's one of those games where the difficulty seems to ramp up a lot toward the end of the game. It just got so ridiculous after a while that it wasn't even fun.

It's one thing to have saves and checkpoint saves, but when you die like 10 times on each section it just starts to be ridiculous. It doesn't feel like you're really succeeding at the game anymore, just failing forward.

It's one thing to ramp up the difficulty a little bit, but another thing entirely when the right difficulty at the beginning of the game is not the right one at the end, and that's a trap I feel DS2 fell into.

plasma rifle is pretty good against the little guys since they move about. Also once you upgrade its a fairly decent all round weapon because you get the grenade launcher that wasn't in the first game. I generally had a decent amount of ammo for it too. Javelin can pack some punch but slow fire rate means its more useful when you are dealing with the big guys, not the normal necros.

Dead Space 2 took me just under 10 hours vs around 11 for the first.

I basically gave up on the game after reaching the first store and finding it filled with tons of DLC items. I didn't want to play with the DLC, so that kind of threw a monkey wrench in my plans. Anyway, I found out that if you use the Steam code in Origin, you can download the game without the crappy DLC, and play it legit. So, I did that and restarted the game since I hadn't played in over a month, and hadn't gotten that far in (glad I did as I'd forgotten some of what had happened).

I'm not sure why, but this time I'm not having any trouble at all. The first time I played the game I was struggling from like the second level onward. I was terribly low on ammo, and just kept getting raped because of it. I don't know if I just wasn't stomping enough corpses early on or what?

It might also have helped that I didn't go with the stupid Javelin gun this time. For some reason I couldn't hit **** with it when I used it. And also if I want to use a precision weapon, I already have the Plasma Cutter, so I don't really need another. I picked up the Line Cutter too and it kicks some serious ass in the right situation. I hated it in the first game, but this time around it seems decent.

I passed on the Plasma Rifle due to it basically sucking the first time around, but maybe I should have gotten it too? Is it any better in this game than the first?

Overall the game definitely does seem better than the first. Not that the first was bad, by any means. But the story in this one is just more interesting, and the locations are a bit more varied and have some awesome atmosphere.

The only thing is I'm not sure how long the game is going to be, as I'm already on Chapter 6 out of 15, and my play time is only about 3 hours or so.

I've been playing a bit more and haven't been having as much trouble with feeling nauseated. The trick seems to be to just stay in aim mode as much as possible. In aim mode the camera sticks behind the character and doesn't just wander all over the place like when you're in free look.

Unfortunately I'm finding the game a bit frustrating. It seems like compared to the first there are more "events" where tons of enemies just keep coming. The issue I'm having isn't that these are actually so hard, it's just that I run out of ammo and then die simply because it's totally ineffective to fight with your fists.

I still don't find the game that scary. I'm basically expecting the enemies to pop out at any time, so when it happens it doesn't really surprise me, I just react by popping a cap in them. Maybe I need to try replaying SS2 to see if that still scares me.

Bought the Dead Space Pack on Steam during the summer sale. Finishing off Half-Life 2: Episode Two before I get into those games.

Looking forward to a scare fest.

I used to be really good with arrow keys, and thought the same thing. One day I switched to WASD, it took a while to get used to but it was worth it, as I became even better (I am 40 now so age has eventually caught up with me). So yeah your raw skill might make you great with arrows, but I guarantee you if you took the time to switch to WASD you'd be even better. Your boxing with weights on my friend.

The camera in these games is just brutal. I just started Dead Space 2 and I'm already severely nauseated. I had this problem in the first as well, but fought through it. But this time seems as bad, maybe even worse than with the first game.

It's tough for me to play the game, not because I feel scared, but because I constantly feel like I want to vomit up the contents of my stomach.

Seriously, the third person camera in these games is so bad. This doesn't happen in every game with a third person view, just Dead Space. I really wish there was an option for first person view just so that I wouldn't feel nauseated all the time. Not to mention, all Isaac does is block half your view anyway.

just because you have been doing something for years, doesn't mean you shouldn't change it i played with arrow keys for years too, but like I said, WSAD gives you more freedom, and thus, you can enjoy the game more.

dead space 1 would be the very last game i would ever choose the learn WSAD. do you have any simple straight forward shooters like HL2 or Doom 3? start slowly with those. Usually third person games make it tougher.

Grov, how far along in the game are you? the first one is not butter smooth, but it as an AWESOME game imo. Obviously if you are not enjoying it, then it is a lost cause.

Try forcing vsync through nvidia CP or CCC, but turn it off ingame.

As for WSAD, i hated those keys as well, but once you get used to it, you have SO much more freedom of actions.

Turn off vsync in game cures the laggy controls in the first game. I tried multiple methods and that is the only one that worked

I highly recommend learning to play with the WASD controls. I used to play games with the arrow keys too, but once I learned the WASD method, I never looked back.

If you are in the market for a new keyboard, I would recommend this one:

    http://www.frys.com/product/6072068?...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG

With the arrow keys and WASD controls combined on the left, it makes gaming for me at least, a lot easier. Plus the lighting scheme is nice.
