            THQ Inc. Software License Agreement

            1. READ THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING THIS SOFTWARE ON YOUR PERSONAL COMPUTER. THIS SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT IS A LEGAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU (AN INDIVIDUAL OR A SINGLE ENTITY "YOU") ON THE ONE HAND, AND THQ INC. AND ITS SUBSIDIARIES AND AFFILIATES (COLLECTIVELY REFERRED TO AS "THQ") ON THE OTHER HAND, FOR THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT ENTITLED "SUPREME COMMANDER: FORGED ALLIANCE," WHICH INCLUDES COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND ANY ASSOCIATED MEDIA, PRINTED MATERIALS, AND/OR "ONLINE" OR ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTATION (TOGETHER CALLED THE "SOFTWARE"). BY INSTALLING, COPYING, OR OTHERWISE USING THE SOFTWARE (OR, IN THE EVENT YOU HAVE PURCHASED THE SOFTWARE AS CONTAINED ON A CD-ROM, BY OPENING THE PACKAGING MATERIALS THEREOF), YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY ITS TERMS. THE SOFTWARE IS LICENSED, NOT SOLD, TO YOU FOR USE ONLY UNDER THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT, DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE SOFTWARE AND DELETE ALL COPIES IN YOUR POSSESSION.
            2. THQ grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use one copy of the Software in the country in which you acquired the Software for your own personal, non-commercial use, but retains all property rights in the Software and all copies thereof. All other rights are expressly reserved by THQ. You may: (i) use the Software on any supported computer configuration, provided the Software is used on only one (1) such computer; and (ii) permanently transfer the Software and its documentation to another user provided you retain no copies and the recipient agrees to the terms of this Agreement. You may not transfer, distribute, rent, sub-license, or lease the Software or documentation, except as provided herein; or alter, modify, or adapt the Product or documentation, or any portions thereof.
            3. You acknowledge that the Software in source code form remains a confidential trade secret of THQ. You agree not to modify or attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation.
            4. OWNERSHIP: All right, title and interest and intellectual property rights in and to the Software (including but not limited to any titles, computer code, themes, objects, characters, character names, stories, dialog, catch phrases, locations, concepts, artwork, images, photographs, animations, video, sounds, audio-visual effects, music, musical compositions, text and "applets," incorporated into the Software), the accompanying printed materials, and any copies of the Software, are owned by THQ or its licensors. This Agreement grants you no rights to use such content other than as part of the Software. All rights not expressly granted under this Agreement are reserved by THQ.
            5. This Agreement is effective upon your installation of the Software and shall continue until revoked by THQ or until you breach any term hereof; upon termination you agree to destroy and/or delete all copies of the Software in your possession.
            6. You shall not modify the Software or merge the Software into another computer Program (except to the extent the Software is made to operate within a computer operating system and in connection with other computer program) or create derivative works based upon the Software.
            7. The Software may not be downloaded or otherwise exported or re-exported into (or to a national or resident of) any country to which the U.S. has embargoed goods or to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department list of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Commerce Department's Table of Deny Orders. If you do not meet these criteria or are not sure, do not install the software and destroy any copies in your possession. If you live in such a country, no license is granted hereunder.
            8. You are responsible for assessing your own computer and the results to be obtained therefrom. YOU EXPRESSLY AGREE THAT USE OF THE SOFTWARE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS," "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, UNLESS SUCH WARRANTIES ARE LEGALLY INCAPABLE OF EXCLUSION. THQ AND ITS LICENSORS DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, WHETHER ORAL OR WRITTEN, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY RIGHTS, AND THOSE ARISING FROM A COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE, REGARDING THE SOFTWARE. THQ AND ITS LICENSORS ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGES SUFFERED BY YOU, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, LOSS OF DATA, ITEMS OR OTHER MATERIALS FROM ERRORS OR OTHER MALFUNCTIONS CAUSED BY THQ, ITS LICENSORS, LICENSEE AND/OR SUBCONTRACTORS, OR BY YOUR OR ANY OTHER PARTICIPANT'S OWN ERRORS AND/OR OMISSIONS. THQ and its licensors make no warranty with respect to any related software or hardware used or provided by THQ in connection with the Software except as expressly set forth above.
            9. LIMITED CD-ROM WARRANTY: Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained herein, and solely with respect to Software distributed on CD-ROM, THQ warrants to the original consumer purchaser of this Software on CD-ROM that the recording medium on which the Software is recorded will be free from defects in material and workmanship for 90 days from the date of purchase. If the recording medium is found defective within 90 days of original purchase, THQ agrees to replace, free of charge, any product discovered to be defective within such period upon its receipt of the product, postage paid, with proof of the date of purchase, as long as the Software is still being manufactured by THQ. In the event that the Software is no longer available, THQ retains the right to substitute a similar Software of equal or greater value. This warranty is limited to the recording medium containing the Software as originally provided by THQ and is not applicable to normal wear and tear. This warranty shall not be applicable and shall be void if the defect has arisen through abuse, mistreatment, or neglect. Any implied warranties prescribed by statute are expressly limited to the 90-day period described above. THQ will replace defective media at no charge subject to the conditions set forth above. This is your sole and exclusive remedy for any breach of warranty.
            10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT THQ AND ITS LICENSORS SHALL NOT ASSUME OR HAVE ANY LIABILITY FOR ANY ACTION BY THQ OR ITS CONTENT PROVIDERS, OTHER PARTICIPANTS OR OTHER LICENSORS WITH RESPECT TO CONDUCT, COMMUNICATION OR CONTENT OF THE SOFTWARE. THQ AND ITS LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM POSSESSION, USE, OR MALFUNCTION OF THE SOFTWARE, INCLUDING DAMAGES TO PROPERTY, LOSS OF GOODWILL, COMPUTER FAILURE OR MALFUNCTION AND, TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DAMAGES FOR PERSONAL INJURIES, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY PROVIDED HEREIN, THQ'S AND ITS LICENSORS’ ENTIRE LIABILITY TO YOU AND YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR ANY BREACH OF THIS AGREEMENT IS LIMITED SOLELY TO THE TOTAL AMOUNT PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWARE, IF ANY. BECAUSE SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR CERTAIN DAMAGES, IN SUCH STATES THQ'S AND ITS LICENSORS’ LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
            11. INJUNCTION. Because THQ would be irreparably damaged if the terms of this License Agreement were not specifically enforced, you agree that THQ shall be entitled, without bond, other security or proof of damages, to appropriate equitable remedies with respect to breaches of this Agreement, in addition to such other remedies as THQ may otherwise have under applicable laws.
            12. INDEMNITY. At THQ's request, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless THQ, its subsidiaries, affiliates, contractors, officers, directors, employees, agents, licensors, licensees, distributors, developers, content providers, and other users of the Software, from all damages, losses, liabilities, claims and expenses, including attorneys' fees, arising directly or indirectly from your acts and omissions to act in using the Software pursuant to the terms of this License Agreement or any breach of this License Agreement by you. THQ reserves the right, at its own expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you hereunder, and in such event, you shall have no further obligation to provide indemnification for such matter.
            13. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS. The Software and documentation have been developed entirely at private expense and are provided as "Commercial Computer Software" or "restricted computer software." The Contractor / Manufacturer is THQ Inc., 29903 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills, CA 91301.
            14. TERMINATION. Without prejudice to any other rights of THQ, this License Agreement and your right to use the Software may automatically terminate without notice from THQ if you fail to comply with any provision of this Agreement or any terms and conditions associated with the Software. In such event, you must destroy all copies of this Software and all of its component parts.
            15. GENERAL PROVISIONS. You may not use, copy, modify, sublicense, rent, sell, assign or transfer the rights or obligations granted to you in this Agreement, except as expressly provided in this Agreement. Any assignment in violation of this Agreement is void, except that you may transfer your Software to another person provided that person accepts the terms of this License Agreement. If any provision of this Agreement is held to be unenforceable for any reason, such provision shall be reformed only to the extent necessary to make it enforceable, and such decision shall not affect the enforceability of: (i) such provision under other circumstances, or (ii) the remaining provisions hereof under all circumstances. THQ's failure to enforce at any time any of the provisions of this Agreement shall in no way be construed to be a present or future waiver of such provisions, nor in any way affect the right of any party to enforce each and every such provision thereafter. The express waiver by THQ of any provision, condition or requirement of this Agreement shall not constitute a waiver of any future obligation to comply with such provision, condition or requirement. Notwithstanding anything else in this Agreement, no default, delay or failure to perform on the part of THQ shall be considered a breach of this Agreement if such default, delay or failure to perform is shown to be due to causes beyond the reasonable control of THQ. This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of California and the United States without regard to its conflicts of laws rules and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts in Los Angeles County, California. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods shall not apply to this Agreement. This Agreement represents the complete agreement concerning this License Agreement between you and THQ.

GAMEPLAY HINTS, TIPS, AND OTHER INFORMATION

            Initial Deployment

There is no single strategy that will always be effective in Supreme Commander--there are simply too many strategic variables. However, if you need some guidance in how to effectively begin a multiplayer or skirmish game, these steps will help get you started. Many of these tips can also help you during the single-player campaign.

With your ACU, build one Mass extractor, two power generators and a Land Factory. Take advantage of the adjacency bonus when placing your factory.

Continue to queue up the ACU's construction waypoints. Queue up the following buildings in this order: one Mass extractor, two power generators, one Mass extractor, two power generators and one Land Factory.

As your first Land Factory is being built, queue up one scout and one Engineer. Do this three times until you have three Engineers.

Move your scouts to areas that require intel, such as chokepoints and other strategic positions. Turn on the range overlay so you know exactly where radar coverage is provided.

Have your first Engineer out of the Land Factory build one Mass extractor, two power generators and another Land Factory.

Continue to move scouts into position and order your Engineers to fan out to nearby Mass deposits. Have your Engineers construct Mass extractors on all nearby Mass deposits.

Change your Land Factory's queue to five light assault bots and one Engineer; place this build order on repeat.

Set the waypoints for your factories to cover potential areas of assault.

Build an Air Factory. Queue up one interceptor on repeat and create a patrol path for the Air Factory.

From this point on, you're on your own. Good luck!

            3) Click on any available games in the highlighted Server List window. Information on that game will be displayed in the Server Information window to the right.
            4) Click “Join” to play or “Observe” to just watch the game, if the host has allowed observers. You will then appear in the Game Lobby.

            Join via Direct IP:

            1) From the Main Menu, click Multiplayer > LAN/IP.
            2) Enter your nickname.
            3) Click the “IP Address/Hostname” field at the bottom of the window. This area will become highlighted, and a cursor will appear in the field.
            4) Enter a valid IP address or Hostname into the “IP Address/Hostname” field.
            5) Enter the Port number in the “Port” field.
            6) Click “Join” to play or “Observe” to just watch the game, if the host has allowed observers. If the IP/Hostname and Port are valid, you will appear in the Game Lobby.

If you wish to join a LAN game instead, simply click in the “Server List” window to highlight it, choose a server, and press Join/Observe as normal.

            GPGnet:

GPGnet is an Internet gaming service provided by Gas Powered Games that lets players meet up, challenge other players, join games, and compete in a worldwide ranking system, all without paying any special connection charges.

In order to use GPGnet, your computer must have the TCP/IP protocol installed, and must provide TCP/IP support for 32-bit applications.

            Product Key Required
            • You must have installed Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance with a valid product key in order to connect to GPGnet and play online. A product key cannot be connected to GPGnet by two PCs at the same time. If upon connection to GPGnet you receive an error message related to your product key, please re-install Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance and enter a valid product key.

            Online Knowledge Base
            • GPGnet includes an extensive Knowledge Base with troubleshooting information for both GPGnet and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. You can find the Knowledge Base by opening GPGnet and going to Help > GPGnet Knowledge Base.

            .NET 2.0 Framework Required
            • GPGnet requires the .NET 2.0 Framework installed in order to function. The necessary files are normally installed along with your installation of Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. Some users, however, must install the framework separately. If you receive an error message reading "can't find MultiplayerClient.exe," this is usually caused by a failure to have .NET 2.0 installed. You can locate the files by using Windows Update or by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/net.

            Firewall settings
            • Open ports 6112 to UDP traffic, and open 9103 to UDP traffic. These are among the most common ports used by online multiplayer games. SupCom cannot be modified to use other ports. Also, open ports 30340 and 30341 to UDP traffic, for GPGnet to function. Make sure that GPGnet and SupCom appear on your Windows Firewall exception list, and the exception lists of other firewall products you are currently running. If you are behind a DMZ, disable all on-access scanners.

            Anti-virus software
            • Many users of antivirus software (such as Nvidia Access Manager, NOD32, Norton, PandaSoft, etc.) are unable to connect to GPGnet, experience poor performance or game crashes. If you experience trouble, we suggest that users place both SupCom and GPGnet on the exception lists for these software products or otherwise disable them during gameplay.

If you CAN connect to GPGnet, but CANNOT connect to games
            • First, please understand that SupCom is a peer-to-peer multiplayer game, meaning that open connections must exist between all the players attempting to play. While common for RTS games, this configuration differs significantly from server-client games such as first-person shooters and MMOs. If you CAN connect to GPGnet, but CANNOT connect to games, there is likely a firewall or antivirus conflict either with your own connection, or your opponent's connection. It is not uncommon for players to be able to connect to server-client games but be unable to connect to peer-to-peer games. Please see the steps above to open your connection to all necessary traffic in order to play.

If you CANNOT connect to GPGnet
            • If you have firewall software, please make sure you have ports 30350, 30351, 9103 and 6112 open to UDP traffic.

            Automatic patch downloads
            • GPGnet automatically delivers patches of itself and of SupCom to connected players. If patching fails, never seems to end or aborts, make sure you don’t have anything in the background that is either updating Windows or using your Internet connection during the patch download and application process.

            Routers with Symmetrical NAT
            • Certain routers that use symmetrical NAT may not work well with GPGnet and Supreme Commander. These routers are very rare, and most have firmware updates available to fix the problem. If you are using a router with symmetrical NAT, please contact the manufacturer to see if there are firmware updates available.

            PERFORMANCE TIPS

            Fidelity Settings:
            - Primary Adapter: Lets the user choose between either windowed- or fullscreen-mode for the primary monitor (as defined in the user's desktop settings). For fullscreen, the user selects the desired resolution.
            - Secondary Adapter: Lets the user choose the fullscreen resolution for the secondary monitor (if available.) Note, this is only allowed if the primary adapter is set to fullscreen. Also, any change to this option requires a restart of the game.
            - Fidelity Presets: Lets the user set all remaining video options to a convenient preset value. This option will automatically change to "custom" if any single video option is changed.
            - Background Image: Lets the user turn on or off the rendering of the background image (and sky cube when zoomed in).
            - Fidelity: Changes the rendering quality of terrain, water and meshes. Basically, it affects the amount of work the system is allowed to perform while rendering geometry. For example, in low fidelity units do not render reflections.
            - Shadow Fidelity: Alters the quality of shadow generation. Off: no shadows. Low: shadows are cast onto the terrain only. Medium: shadows are cast on terrain and meshes (trees, units, etc.) High: same as medium but filtered to soften edges.
            - Anti-Aliasing: Lets the user select the number of anti-aliasing samples (or no anti-aliasing.)
            - Texture Detail: Lets the user specify how detailed the textures should be. Basically, the user is using this to limit the size of the textures used.
            - Level Of Detail: Modifies the rate at which lower resolution models are "swapped in" as the camera pulls away.
            - Vertical Sync: When turned on, the system waits for a vertical refresh before presenting the next frame to the screen.

            Background Applications and Performance
Programs that run in the background while on the Internet, such as ICQ, web browsers, voice communication applications, or file sharing programs cut into the speed at which Supreme Commander plays. Turning off these Internet-specific applications can also increase your game speed. Antivirus and firewall software also commonly contribute to performance issues. If you experience performance problems with Antivirus or firewall software try to configure the software to exclude Supreme Commander from security checks. Contact your software vendor for details.

            System RAM and Performance
Another method of increasing performance in Supreme Commander is to add RAM to your computer if you are playing on a 512MB system. Supreme Commander can consume a great deal of memory in very large games causing the system to use virtual memory. This process is slower than using RAM directly, and while the speed of your processor is a factor in the performance of the game, additional memory can greatly enhance your game speed on baseline systems.

            Dual Core and Performance
Supreme Commander will utilize your dual- and quad-core processor natively and automatically. Running a dual- or quad-core processor is one of the best ways to improve performance in Supreme Commander.

            Updated Video Drivers
It is highly recommended that you install the latest drivers for your video card. These can be downloaded from your video card manufacturer's Web site. Please visit http://www.nvidia.com or http://www.ati.com, depending on the type of card you have.

            Updated Sound Drivers
If you are experiencing problems with audio, or general performance problems, you should check with your soundcard manufacturer's Web site to see if updated drivers are available.

            Motherboard Drivers
Often motherboard drivers are overlooked when updating systems, and as a result most computers are running very old versions that simply do not work properly and may cause very noticeable slow downs and stability issues. Please check with your motherboard manufacturer to see if there are updated drivers available.

            Enabling or Disabling Secondary Monitor
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance may crash when enabling or disabling the secondary monitor.

Disabling and Enabling Windows' Language Switching
Steps to disable Windows’ on the fly language switching, which can interfere with in-game debug commands utilizing the Alt and Shift keys:

            TECHNICAL SUPPORT

            - Save Game Error: "Save Failed! Error writing data during serialization." This error occurs when you attempt to make a save file and are out of hard drive space. You need to clean up sufficient space on your hard drive before attempting to save again.
            - In windowed mode, if the screen goes black but music is still playing, attempt to manually resize the window. In this circumstance, the game has not crashed, it is likely just that an edge of the window was clicked but the resize mode hasn't completed. By manually clicking on the edge of the window, you can finish the resize command.
            - If your computer's desktop is set to 8-bit color mode, Supreme Commander will crash on exit. 8-bit color mode is not supported, and you should set your desktop to at least 24-bit color mode.
            - All in game text becomes corrupted if the game is started in 16-bit color mode. Please use 24-bit color mode or higher to play Supreme Commander in a supported mode.

            Dual Monitor Mode:
            - It is possible to set your primary monitor out of range if you set an invalid resolution on your primary monitor and ANY resolution on your secondary monitor. To get out of this mode, go to your start menu and load Supreme Commander through the Safe Mode link.
