Pillars of Eternity is boring. Am I doing it wrong?

I want to like this game, I loved NWN2. I've given three attempts now and the combat feels very repetitive and story-wise it all seems pretty bland.

Am I missing something important I should be doing? It also took me thee attempts to get into Mass Effect, and obviously I was wrong there.

First one was decent, but its the second one that really shines. Great turn based combat too. I'd say jump down to easy and run through the story. If i remember right, it didnt really get that interesting until the expansion.

It was the same for me too. I made two attempts, before returning to it years later. I'm kind of having the same issue with Baldur's Gate, playing it for the first time. Anyway, I'd say the first part of the was pretty boring IMO. Gonna try and avoid spoilers as much as possible. After leaving the first town, and moving onto the other main areas things gradually got better. The latter half of the game (including the expansion) is where things get more interesting/engaging. There are definitely some interesting bits to the story, and some above average lore, but nothing that will blow you away.

No regrets playing through the game, despite the first half being kinda meh.

The second game is definitely a leap ahead of the first one.

It is boring af also like all Diablo clones. Same with Diablo as well. I used to love Icewind dale and NWN games but these ones are (I know different) but also boring af.

I think this game was overhyped. No one wanted to see the resurgence of Baldur's Gate style games more than I but the media just jumped on board and gave this game rave 9 and 10 star reviews. I think the graphics were fine and the characters were decent but the story was not all that and the gameplay was not up to standard. The game had major pacing problems and the mega dungeon felt like a trash mob grind. I would give it a 6 out of 10. I think POE 2 was actually a really good game but all the kids that bought POE and felt disappointed, decided not to buy it and I can't blame them. POE 2 flopped despite being a much better game. I'd probably give POE 2 an 8.5 out 10.

Agreed about pillars 2. the second game is so much better than the first. The turn based combat option is excellent also. One of the better ones. Less buggy than the pathfinder games turn based settings.

Alright, I'm back to doing a Dragon Age Nightmare run-through. ( DO NOT RECOMMEND DA II ON NIGHTMARE ).

When I'm done, I'll got back to POE on easy then on to II. I wanted to do them both before Avowed hits.

Just skip pillars 1 and jump straight to pillars 2. while it is the "same" main character, and there are some decisions that carry over, as well as some of the side characters are the same. 99% of the game doesnt care about pillars 1 at all. Only saying this as you said you werent enjoying pillars 1, and the start of pillars 2 feels like starting from the beginning again.
