winMX- anyone that uses & winXP

I have loaded WinMX after hearing about it on this site a while back in a thread.. I am having a big problem, as I start to download stuff I will get the big bad BSOD.. anyone else have this problem?? I have just done a re-install of XP to make sure there wasn't another program conflicting with it and clocked my system back to stock speeds, still the same.. =(

    Any Ideas..?

My bet is on your network card. What kind of NIC you got?

I'm running WinMX on WinXP Home....seems to run fine except once in a while it does an illegal operationg. Otherwise, no problems.

im using a Linksys Nic, I have found that they are causing problems, I have also found that if you set it to secondary connection it could eliminate the problem as well.. if you goto newsgroups at alt.music.mp3.winmx, there are alot of people having problems with it crashing.. after switching to secondary connection, I have not had a BSOD yet.. Knock on wood..

That's what I suspected. I had the same issue. I just bought a new NIC. Linksys is crap.

I'm moving this thread again. It doesn't belong in Software. It's a Windows driver issue. Sorry to Zep and whoever moved it. You guys were wrong.

edonkey is a huge hassle and imo, a buncha crap. use kazaalite and gnutella (using either gnotella or limewire) .

It depends on what you use it for. For some things, eDonkey can't be beat. For smaller files, some of the other networks are better. In my experience, however, gnutella isn't the best at anything. Doesn't scale well at all.
