    windows XP shutdown

Hi I have a problem with windows XP when it shuts down it displays "it is now safe to turn off your computer" and I had to press the power button manually. Does anyone know how I could fix this? My computer could automaticly shutdown when I was using windows 98. Thanks

    ACPI

Do you have ACPI turned off or on? Try this link:

yes ACPI is enabled, and I tried the regedit but it still does not work ( yeah i restarted the computer after finished with the registry). I might want to try installing a different version of windows xp

Could be your motherboard as well.....
try snooping around in the BIOS for something that looks relevant.

          shutdown

I don't think it is because of the motherboard since my computer was able to shutdown properly when I was using windows 98.

Go to Power Options under control Panel.
There should be a box to check to enable shutdown completely.
I to had this problem until I checked this option.
            Hope this helps.

I did what hitman said, and it solved the problem for me.Control Panel/ Power options/Apm/ Enable advanced power management( check the box). That did it.
