    Windows 10 2004 Feature Update

Its time Bitches! Get ready for a cluster F*** or smooth sailing. Once again it was a cluster F*** for me as it took 4 attempts before it completed successfully. And once again Microsoft doesn't tell you when its crashing what is causing it to crash so its a total guessing game. I finally got it to work by pulling every thing out of the ports and uninstalling Malwarebytes. Who the hell knows which one was causing the problem!

Crashes during windows upgrades might be identifiable by using the MEMORY.DMP file from the temporary windows installation folder (NOT C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP, is called something like ~something).

Open the dump file with windbg and let it analyze the file. It more often than not is able to pinpoint the module/driver that caused the kernel crash.

        Cluster****.

Installed it on my gaming rig -> nVidia BSOD's, slowdowns, IRQ started churning 100% and other weird issues.

Until nv gets a new driver out (and maybe one after it) I wouldn't install it.

I joined the preview which I believe is the final release at this point.

Yea, it is far from running perfect at this point. been having some boot up issues where I have to reboot for everything to start working. I changed out my Nvidia driver to the 450.99 that is posted in the Nvidia drivers thread even though mine wasn't giving me problems to my knowledge.

Been running it for a while since I'm an old Technet rat.

Runs awesome, did a clean install and using 450.99. Have no issues whatsoever.

Things seem to be working a bit better since putting on the 450.99 drivers.

Spoke to soon, still having some odd boot up crap going on, probably doesn't like one of the tray software on boot up, requiring a reboot to get things loaded up again.

Does this update include the Chromium based Microsoft Edge?

Apparently, 2004 update is only available through windows update despite even though it's not available for media creation tool yet. It is still 1909. I'll just wait a bit.

Probably going to require a few patches in the next 3 months to get it purring again, Or I have to do a full reinstall from scratch which I am not willing to do at this time. Will live with the occasional glitches until stuff gets ironed out. Perfectly stable after everything loads up for me.

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to upgrade using the MCT, as Microsoft is staggering who it gives the update to over windows update. You may be one who gets it now, or it may appear weeks from now.

Just noticed fast startup is no longer working even though it shows as enabled in power options (I can tell it takes longer to boot up after "shut down", also the CPU uptime counter is reset confirming it did not do a fast startup). Seems to have started since the 2004 update

Any idea on how to figure out what is causing fast startup to not work? I did the 2004 update on my laptop and the fast startup still works there.

I was under the impression that fast startup was something you were supposed to disable anyway if you're booting from an SSD.

                                        Heresy!

Also only issue I noticed was that my anime tiddy lock screen was just a grey background until I went in and toggled it on and off again. Now errythang is copacetic.

Ok...this time the fast startup worked. Weird!

Wondering if I should disable fast startup now that you said that...

EDIT - just noticed Cortana as one of my startup items in task manager (it was disabled, but wondering why it got in there)

Just updated to 2004 version using .exe setup. Restarted and then installed 20.5.1 driver. Went through three times restarted and then it's all good.

Seems to have started since the 2004 update

Any idea on how to figure out what is causing fast startup to not work? I did the 2004 update on my laptop and the fast startup still works there.
I just turned it off, really doesn't gain a whole lot with an NVME installed other then making the initial BIOS screen time go down. I am wondering if it may have been causing me my issues with hang on login. Too early to tell though.

Having that same issue, sometimes will get the background color screen on login after reboot instead of pictures.

I have also decided to turn on Hibernate to get around my hang at login issue, as long as it works it does make it a faster experience as I have a chit load of launchers and other nonsense that stay loaded with Hibernate on making login much faster.

I think Ultra fast boot is broken in 2004. So far so good after turning it off, haven't had login hang since turning it off. I cant believe these things were not experienced while it was being tested.

Edit: Definitely looks like Ultra Fast boot is broken, since turning it off no hangs after login on boot up.

This update is a POS, so I was like wth I will update a PC I just put together and has nothing on it and I just installed 1909 on it about a month or less ago, Just basically using it as a cable box for comcast. First attempt, Does its reboot and blue screens This should be a pretty standard no frills update, Old Intel 6600K with just its onboard graphics. Trying one more time but I bet it blue screens again. There is literally nothing installed on this thing. Microsoft you are sucking as of the last year or more with your updates.

Edit: 2nd attempt works without a hitch, stupid!

Even though I am on Win 10 Pro, 2004 downloaded and installed without asking.

Had to revert because Apt-X Bluetooth audio is broken.

Any ideas why it auto installed?

No idea why it installed on its own, but it should've shown up as a separate link on the WU page in the Settings app, and you should've had to actually click that link to kick off the install.

Or at least that's the behavior I saw on my brother's PC that I just helped him set up. I installed the Pro edition of 1909 on it this past Thursday and pulled down all the updates, and then sometime after I powered it back on the following day, the upgrade was there when I went to check for updates again. But it wasn't installing on its own, and AFAIK it's still there waiting for him to choose to install it. I didn't tweak/disable anything on the machine as far as WU goes, either (it's completely stock).
just ignore the smoke and smile.

Thanks for wasting my time Microsoft with your update tool, shouldn't it tell me the same thing before I even start.
