win 10 laptops activation, depending on location...what gives

i created a boot usb using windows media creator from microsoft. i installed it on my laptop while travelling overseas. It said I needed to activate it with a code. I came back to canada after my trip and did a reinstall and this time my laptop says it's activated.??

There was no difference in installation other than where the laptop accessed the internet from...what gives>

Likely M$'s location based authorization. They do things different depending on where the incoming IP address is coming from (i.e. there are higher areas of piracy than others).

Most probably yeah. Activation key probably have regional info in them.
