    Help in installing vista without a dvd drive.......

    I need to install a fresh windows OS like vista on a pc here but it doesnt have a dvd just a regualar cd burner drive does anyone have a tricks to install vista on this pc? Like splitting vista on regular cd's or what are the steps to do it over a network? Thanks....

    Or actually how about somehow putting a vista dvd contents on a usb harrddrive and installing with the usb drive? Anyone know how?

        Hmmm, I might give that a try myself. I'm having a hard time installing Vista on my Gigabyte 965 DS3 system because it fails to detect the dvd drive during install.....the very same drive that it successfully booted into the Vista install from

          I have the same motherboard. It has a couple of kinks you need to get around if you want to install from a thumbdrive, and you might have to add to the above instructions as mine failed to boot from USB unless I formatted the drive as a regular FAT filestructure and ran 'bootsect.exe /nt60' on the drive (bootsect.exe is under the 'boot' folder on your Vista disc). So, assuming that e: is your DVD drive and f: is your thumbdrive, you would run 'e:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt60 f:' in a command prompt from your Vista disc after you follow the original instructions.

          And don't be surprised if the initial bootup is slow as the actual installation runs much faster.
