Vista and Index Searching is damn slow, why?

Why is it when searching for a file on my system it takes for freakin' ever?!!

I've set the Indexing Options to index every drive on my system for quite some time now, 8 months ago. I would think my complete system would be totally indexed by now, or at least most of it.

My latest example is this...since I rarely use it, I have no clue where my Steam.exe is. So I go to start menu, type 'steam' and hit enter. Search box opens and has been searching (and slowing my system down) for the last 15 min.

I found it faster myself by simply digging in the drive folders.

That would be why. Directly from Vista's own help files regarding indexing,

Can I index my entire computer so all searches are fast?

You shouldn't. If you make the index too large, or if you include system file locations like the folder called Program Files, your routine searches will slow down because the index will not perform well. For best results, we recommend that you only add folders to the index that contain your personal files.
