Hey guys, I have an external 1tb drive which was connected to my computer while I was attempting to install xp.. Every time i've reformatted in the past, the main drive has always been first on the partition list, well... not this time. I wasn't paying enough attention and ended up deleting the partition of my 1tb drive instead of my main drive. I had lots of important stuff on there.. How do I get it back? I looked at a few recovery programs, but I'm just afraid that they wont be able to recover some of my file types.. Any suggestions? thanks.

Been a while since I last had to try and recover files like that I don't remember what program I used before that worked excellent. sorry
I learned a lesson of my own a while back, when ever you are reinstalling windows and you have multiple drives that are not raid drives, unplug them!INSERT 'StupidPoliticalOpinion'

Here are 2 programs that I use and recommend:
PC Inspector File Recovery It's FREE as in FREE BEER and works excellently.
GetDataBack It costs about $80 and you have to buy a version for each type of File System you want to recover data from.
Since discovering and using PC Inspector File Recovery, I haven't had to use GetDataBack.
HTH!

TestDisk fixed it. It's not very friendly, but it does work. I wasn't able to get one partition back, but I got most of my important files.Godtier Gaming News: Twitter / www.godtiergaming.com

If you feel comfortable editing partition table information, it is a good program for that. Did you check out the programs I recommended?

I've used WinHex to wipe disks before, and it can recover tons of stuff from a one or two pass wipe, so I'd guess it work pretty well on just a deleted partition.
Acronis Disk Suite has a "partition recovery" option, but I've thankfully never had cause to try to use it.Originally posted by JohnEJohnIt's at least worth a try man, I initially thought wtf to trying it a few years ago and once it entered my mouth it was honestly one of the best things I had ever tasted.
