Stuck at the Welcome screen yet again

The only way I can get it to boot is to do a diagnostic boot and manually start the network services to get online. Safe mode also works, but not safe mode with networking.

I am really tired of ATI because every time I install this garbage, my system either won't get by the welcome screen or it just had other problems until I fix it. I never remember what I do in order to get by it either. Anyone know what I should try? This is a freshly formatted computer with minimal programs installed. This is enough to make me want to go nVidia next time and I think I will. I don't recall a time where installing drivers went smoothly, especially now that the driver package has stupid ass things like "Earthsim" and how it wants to to install Steam immediately, which I cancelled. Not sure if that did something, but if it did, **** you ati.

From the description of your problems I can only assume you don't know how to operate your equipment. Quite why this is ATI's problem I don't know, but that's hardly a constructive way to request assistance.

I suggest you try again, detailing which drivers you are using, and at what point you get the error (after installing vendor driver XYZ).

It's not really hard to install drivers, so it's not that I don't know how to use it. Whenever CCC gets installed it does nothing but screw my system up, and it's always on a fresh install and requires troubleshooting to get around. I don't know if it's an incompatibility thing with my hardware or what, but I installed the plain display driver and it's fine. Go figure.

If something doesn't work on a brand new install of XP, especially when all it requires is pushing accept buttons and rebooting, it's not my fault. This happens every single time I install drivers ever since they started bundling the stupid CCC with them and I'll not be using them any more.

Try Safe Mode, uninstall, using driver cleaner. And re install just the Display Driver , not the CCC package. If it does it again you'll know if it's CCC or not.

It's not CCC, it's your Windows Install. Do you have all the updates and patches from MS installed? Latest DirectX? Do you have the latest chipset drivers? There's more to it that booting form the windows CD and then stuffing the driver CD in. You need .NET framework for CCC, and that has fixes & updates for it, too. Additionally other applications that use .NET may change settings that CCC requires.

CCC is bloated garbage, but it's never failed to work or borked my installs. Additionally, if you don't want EarthSIM/Steam, then use the 'Custom' install option and uncheck the box so that they're not installed.
