DD WRT and openVPN : anyway to turn on/off vpn on the fly?

    DD WRT and openVPN : anyway to turn on/off vpn on the fly?

    rather than always going into the gui web interface to turn it off and on (PITA), is there an easier way I can toggle using my vpn?

    I'm not sure I understand the problem. Why not just leave openVPN on all the time and login when needed? I'm assuming you're asking about toggling it on and off from the local network through the web portal and not remotely via VPN right?

      its on my dd wrt so i need it off as soon as torrents complete, turning it off and on would be a daily affiar. nothing is remote though

        Why bother turning it off though? Once a torrent is complete, just shut down the torrent traffic and let the VPN server run in the background. It shouldn't take up any actual noticeable resources.

          needs to be off there are other internet users in the house :/ Geo location implications such as Google.com and bank logins will be screwed up. AND the VPN does not reach my ISP speeds of 35 Mb/s . Its more like 9 Mb/s. Btw I have found a very good solution. I set up 2 profiles using Putty that by one click of a button it will SSH into router ,login , and run the openvpn.conf file to start the VPN. To turn it off the same procedure. Thanks for your look into this !

            I think we have it backwards, are you using the OpenVPN client? If you are, its kinda strange you would not just use the desktop client, unless there is a reason you want your entire network routed through the VPN during this time?

              yes openVPN on the router. the reason I want everything on Ethernet to be on VPN if need be. The wireless machines are to be off the VPN. They run on a different router.
