in using this the prompt says I may have to reinstall everything. is this fact, or will what I do have remain as is and just parts of the installers that aren't removed by the installer be removed? confused yet?

That's the purpose of the MSICUU, to remove items that won't uninstall with their uninstaller. Sometimes, they break. I've used MSICUU many times to fix things in this way.
MSICUU can only remove things that are on the list of installed programs that were installed using the Windows Installer. When you run it, does the CCC show up in the list? What is the error you are getting? Please be exact with the wording.
By the way, Microsoft pulled the MSICUU from their downloads because it sometimes damaged other programs when used. They now provide "Fix it" tools for their own programs.

prog files\ati\cim\bin\installmanagerapp.exe seems to be missing, but that's not the original error which was a missing .msi, and there are 2 instances of cat install manager listed in add/remove. I can uninstall ccc with whatever latest cat there are, but just not with add/remove.

So, if you uninstall the currently installed CCC, it leaves the other one in there?
yanno, I never actually looked, but I'm assuming one is still there. I'll find out the next cat release. anyway, uninstalling both results in the same thing, just not at the same time. in add/remove "change" is the only action to be taken, no "uninstall" option, tho that was there at one point but not recently.

Hi. With the new CIM setup, Change or Repair are the options now. You select the Change option and then in the CIM, you can choose to uninstall everything. That's how it's been for a while now on Windows 7.
