    WinRAR version for Windows x64

WinRAR version for Windows x64 is available. If you use Windows x64, it is strongly recommended to install 64 bit WinRAR version. It provides a higher performance and better shell integration than 32 bit version.

I'm not looking to derail this thread, but I was a WinRar user for many years. When I switched to an x64 OS though I wanted an x64 file compression utility, and I needed something to extract Microsoft Self-Extracting packages. 7Zip does it all, and I'm very pleased with the switch. I like the Windows shell integration a little better too.

Only when I came across a RAR file that 7zip couldn't open properly did I regret 7zip x64. It was few and far between, about 1 time a month, but I also wanted to make solid self-extracting executables and I couldn't figure it out easily with 7zip.

What problems did you encounter with the latter? I was making them on the command line a long time ago, and the program would start to error out for no reason whatsoever after a few were produced. It was really strange. Eventually, I just gave up, reasoning that I was going to spend more time dealing with the issue than installing the software packages manually.

As for the former, I have had no issues.

I would either get issues with it unpacking silently, or it wasn't a very compressed. It's way easier to do with winrar.

mmm 7zip, i like it, but for some reason lots and lots of rar files seem to be 'corrupted' which work perfectly fine in other compression programs that start with 'win' something
