Is there a better free program to use to encode video clips than WMM?

WMM = Windows Movie Maker. My problem is simple; I record video clips using FRAPS on my computer, but for some reason, ever since I switched to Vista-64, WMM doesn't see my movie clips. It only sees the audio portion of it.

I never had this problem before, not sure what is wrong, so I'm wondering if there is a freeware program than can encode in HD better than WMM out there.

Wasn't sure where to post this so I put it here.

I found a post online that said he used Windows Media Encoder to encode it as a WMV file, and then WMM could see it after that. Not sure about HD, but it's a free download at least.

    Get it here.

SUPER © (worst website in the world)
      &
      Handbrake

Both are pretty handy little apps. I've found my self using Handbrake more often as it has a nicer interface imho.

        I use Media Coder.

        http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/

It's a little wierd in that it uses your browser to launch the program, but after that it's fairly powerful, though not as easy to use as WMM.

You end up with a much better looking encoded vid at a little more disk space required than it would be in WMV format... depending on what codec you use.

Clave it sounds like a problem with the fraps codec. Did you install fraps on your vista 64 install or just copy the fraps folder over? If it's the latter then there's your problem I think.

I would also recommend handbrake but it can't read the fraps codec.

I use AnyVideoConverter, great little program. Thus far it's read everything I've thrown at it.

I used to use Adobe Premier Pro but that sucks now, so I switched to Sony Vegas Pro, couldn't be happier.
