Interesting sig, but no info worth a smack. Post your mobo and bios version, your ram types, and whatever you are doing to the mobo. I recommend booting with a default bios setting and see if you have the same problems. If you do, check to see how many different ram types you have and if they run at the default speed of the mobo. It sounds like you have a ram issue to me or a software/bios glitch.
Another thing that can cause this is overheating of the cpu.

For My Mother Board I Run the Latest BIOS From their Site.
I Dont know if there are any other Updates other than their 1.03 Which Fixes" Athlon Heat Issue and WHQL error"

Right now i am Runing Stabe in PC-100 MODE.
BEsides All My Games and 3dMark2001 SE crashing to the DESKTop i have no other Problems

So Heres what settings are in my Advanced Section of My Bios For DRAM Control.

          Auto Configuration : Optimized (PC-100)
          Precharge Command : By SPD
          Active Command : By SPD
Active To CMD Command : By SPD
          Write Recovery Time : 2T

xMemory data Drive : Normal (This Option was Faded Out)
xMemory CMD Drive : Strong (This OPtion was Faded Out)
PCI Mater Pipeline required : Disabled
          P2C/C2P ConCurrency : Disabled
          Fast R/W Turnaround : Disabled
          I/O recovery Time : Disabled
CPU To PCI Post Write : Enabled
          PCI Dynamic Burst : Disabled
PCI Master 0 WS Write : Disabled
          PCI Delay Transation : Disabled
          PCI #2 Access #1 Retry : Disabled

Hope This HElps need anything else lemme know.

I Never really cared to change any bios settings.. i never studied them to see what I Am Supposed to Do

I only Know the Standard BIOS Stuff.

My Guess would either be The 2x 256 MB Dimms are The Problem or the Mother Board setting By The SPD is Wrong.

are you running ram from different vendors? you could have a compatability issue but i doubt it if you are running stable in pc 100 mode. try running each stick at 133. my bet is that one or more of your sticks can't handle it and is causing instability. then again none of them may be able to. hope this helps but i'm not an expert on ram.
