    Air cooling getting better...

Ice Giant finally got a copper version of their thermosiphon and its quite a bit better than the old version.

    [yt]PeQX1uhb0iQ[/yt]

Linus tested the pretty hot 12900k and got some good results. Even vs high end aio's like the EK 360.

After seeing good results from switching from the DC 280mm aio to the deepcool assassin 3 I think I might stick with that form of cooling... but as Linus says things are getting stupid hot on both the CPU and GPU front.

I just went back to water from air. I don't see myself ever using air again.

Haven’t used Air (unless you count the son’s PC) for like 15 years. Not gonna change anytime soon.

Unless I change out my Silverstone Raven RV2 for some other reason, I'm very unlikely to switch from Air. Also Linus is right that CPU's are pushing things to run WAY to damn hot given the limited advancements in cooling tech.

Itll be interesting to see if they innovate either air or reasonably priced water cooling to keep up.

Ice Giant version 2 has a copper base but seems to retain its aluminum pipe. Version3 should have the full pipe be copper. I wonder about galvanic corrosion there... And maybe put in an adjustable frame to support the weight like they do for gpus. Good colling should be much more than 250$.

One thing I found is the Deepcool Assassin 3 cooler is pretty lightweight. Considering it can supposedly handle up to 280w or the same as the DC 280mm aio...

                  You and me both.

Although if all three 180mm fans died now.... those fans are $52 Canadian rubbles on Amazon. So it would be $156 cad to replace all 3. At which point I'd probably at least look at what's out when that happens.

I did, I regretted it. Not only does it look terrible, but it performed worse. And it wasn't even like I was using a bullshit one, I was using a Hyper 212 on a 1700x. Even tried swapping out the AS5 I originally used for NT-H1 to see if that helped and no difference.

I went full EK pump and 480 and a 360 rad. I'll continue with that for as long as I can.

I love the reduction in the noise level while playing games.

Think next time I will need to get a water cooled GPU as well. This series was crap until finally I got my Palit Gamerock cards or the 3090 Ti FTW3 which surprisingly is much quieter than 3090 and 3080 FTW3 cards I had.

Also if mining continues then will definitely need some water on them memory chips. Hopefully we continue to see 4 slot air cooled cards given the thermal output of 450 watts and such.

                          Air is cheap and effective.

Not a fan of how much space inside the case it chews up. These things are literally huge if you want top of the line.

AIO just cleans up the aesthetics. If I was running a windowless case I would probably be more inclined to save the bucks and go with air over water.

The Ice Giant is basically a 240 radiator strapped directly to the cpu socket.

I wouldn't call air cooling cheap. A good air cooler is going to cost you around the same as some of the AIOs. An EK 240mm AIO is $80 and the Cooler Master ML240 is $95.

I guess if you're comparing bottom dollar AIO to highest end air cooling then sure they come close to parity.

I paid a lot more than that for this EK 360mm elite.

Meh. I want a geothermal-cooler, where the heatpipes are buried 200 ft underground. Pros: No moving parts! Cons: Computer can NEVER be moved from the location that your landscape contractors install is. Also, earthquakes may be a problem.

I paid a lot more than that for this EK 360mm elite.
I mean the Dark Rock Pro 4 is only $15 cheaper then the Pure Loop 280. Why would anyone who's case can accommodate a 280mm rad choose the Dark Rock?

You just centralize your computer into a room setup for this type of setup and then wire your house with fiber optic USB n' DisplayPort/HDMi to X room's you want to be able to use that PC from

I'll stick with an AIO cooler.
