The 3xxx series isn't exactly free from cpu limitations right now, so why would alderlake be a waste?

Why spend 600$ + 200$+ board when you can aproach the limit of the 3090 with 250$ cpu like ryzen 5 5600.If you play in 1440p or even 4k you may actually go even cheaper like a 10400.This is why a next gen gpu that promise 3x performance of the today gpu's may justify the big costs of a flagship like a 12900k.Those gpu's are rumored released 2022 q4 at least or early 2023.You can buy a new cpu when the new gpu's are released and take advantage of the market dynamics in 1 year from now.
The only argument to sink the 1000$ now is that maybe there will be even more severe shortage.Maybe there will be nothing to buy next november or maybe it will be so expensive that is not worth it.If this an argument go ahead and buy it now."There is no beggining, and there is no end. There is no alpha, and there is no omega. You never began, and you will never end."

There is more to gaming experience than framerate. Frametimes are significantly more stable on a 10900K/11900K vs a 10400 or other low-end CPU.
You are also forgetting there are plenty of games that are heavily CPU limited even at 4K, and need strong single-thread performance, and ADL blows away every single chip in that regard.Originally posted by curioEat this protein bar, for it is of my body. I still feel that someone should wait for next gen gpus and then buy also a a new cpu flagship.THe reviews for the new gen gpu's and scalling will actually be helpfull to asess if it's reallyh needed to even waste so money on 12900k."There is no beggining, and there is no end. There is no alpha, and there is no omega. You never began, and you will never end."

In a sense I agree with him. Can't say any current high end CPU'S are struggling except for a few edge cases. By all means buy one if you like, but I'll likely wait for the next crop of GPU's before upgrading, 3090 is GPU bound at my resolutions.
Bit hesitant about scheduling at launch too, on top of the usual new arch teething issues.
Would like to play with DDR5 but there is 5333mhz DDR4 available for my chip so might just mess around with that if I feel the urge. Already have pcie 4.0, as do Ryzen users, so the platform isn't an upgrade in that department.
At least that's my initial thoughts, reviews might change my mind though.CROSSHAIR X670E HERO / R9 7950X3D / RTX 4090 GAMING OC / TRIDENT Z5 NEO RGB 6000 CL30 / SAMSUNG 980pro 1TB / 2x SAMSUNG 980 1TB / H150i ELITE LCD / ATH-A2000Z / HX1200 / AW3821DW 38" / LG C2 OLED evo 55" / Enthoo 719 / K70 MKII + Zowie S2 / K57 + Harpoon / Xbox Series X Controller / REVERB G2 V2

Intel's Alder Lake CPUs May Not Work With Older Games
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/in...th-older-games
The problem arises for older titles that are a couple of years old that likely won't get any updates, meaning they'll be unplayable on Alder Lake chips."There is no beggining, and there is no end. There is no alpha, and there is no omega. You never began, and you will never end."

Maybe old news yes.But how is pure speculation? From article i get that intel is working with DRM devs to solve the situation. The problem is the old games may not receive patches and stuff for their drm. From what i understand the DRM system needs a new version that include the ADL support. This problem will apear in the games bought officially through steam-like platforms.
If that game/drm combination will not work and the dev will not release a patch then the only way to play the game is piracy. But with piracy you may not get the latest game version installed and this creates other problems or limitations."There is no beggining, and there is no end. There is no alpha, and there is no omega. You never began, and you will never end."

There have been no cases of games not working. People have already tested this with some of the older Denuvo games and it worked fine.
The article from Tom's is old, before anyone had the chips to test for themselves.
I'm sure we'll see a couple games with issues or strangeness, but I don't see the big deal. This wouldn't be the first time new hardware has had compatibility issues with older software.

Is the cost of a few extra FPS here or there worth dropping $1k on a new setup?
Nope. Not for me.
Plus, I still want to see what that next gen AMD will be. If anything, I may want to look into a HEDT that can do gaming as well. I've been doing a lot more 3D printing and video stuff the last few months. I'm wanting to get back into programing a bit as well. Having a 32 core rig with a nice stack of ram might be my next build.

The z690 mainboards in my country:
280$ for Asus Prime z690m plus D4
410$ for Asus Prime z690-A
This are the cheapest ones ...
Also there are some tuf's and rog strix but they cost as much as an 5800x cpu.
The prices are insane.
I am not sure how this will sell with such platform prices...I feel intel made the right call to only release the 12900k."There is no beggining, and there is no end. There is no alpha, and there is no omega. You never began, and you will never end."

ASUS is extremely overpriced this generation, even more than Z590. Gigabyte, MSI, and ASROCK are far better priced. You couldn't pay me to touch a Gigabyte board, so that leaves MSI.. and maybe ASROCK.Originally posted by curioEat this protein bar, for it is of my body. I might be taking a trip to Microcenter tomorrow morning..
If they have a 12900K, ASUS Z690 APEX, and 5800Mhz DDR5 .. well I won't be able to resist.Originally posted by curioEat this protein bar, for it is of my body. And drink this creatine shake, for it is my blood.

There's a reason the Ryzen chips do well at 1080p and 1440p, and then suddenly at 4K they seem to fall behind. It's not just about max frames. 1%, 0.1%, and minimums are huge for stable framerate.
I also play Total War which is heavily CPU bound, and Hell Let Loose has a lot of areas where I see 60% GPU usage even at 3840x1600. There's plenty of games that can benefit from more CPU power, even at 4K.Originally posted by curioEat this protein bar, for it is of my body. And drink this creatine shake, for it is my blood.
