I do agree that DDR4 is doing well in games but you're comparing extremely mature DDR4 to baby DDR5, and it's impressive that the DDR5 can already surpass the DDR4 when properly tweaked - that was not the case with DDR3 to DDR4.
The latest crop of ddr4 mainboards for ADL qvl says 5133 mhz ... I remember the very basic first ddr4 was 2133mhz i bought from crucial. If the ddr4 trend of frequencies is keept then DDR5 suppose to bring 10000mhz with lower latencies..I am curious if this boards will support ddr5 10000 when they apear."There is no beggining, and there is no end. There is no alpha, and there is no omega. You never began, and you will never end."

Are there known PSU compatibility issues with Alder Lake and potentially Meteor Lake?
I'm looking to grab a Corsair HX1000 PSU and hoping it would be compatible with Meteor Lake even though it may be too early to tell.
Perhaps the RM1000x might be a better choice
EDIT: Looking at this again, if I were to go to a 600 series board, I just need to make sure I can connect an additional 8 pin connector to the PSU for the CPU. This would mean regardless of PSU it will work fine.Last edited by Megaman; Dec 9, 2021, 03:52 PM.

Wonder how much the next gen after alder lake will cost:

I've finally scored some good ddr5 from a somewhat more reasonable local scalper on ebay. 2x16 g.skill Z5 ddr5 6000 cl36.I'm sick of waiting and doesn't look like any end in sight with this shortage.
Only twice msrp, no taxes and import fees since he's in Ontario.
Should I keep them, or turn around and sell them for $3k like other listings I've seen? lol, I'm kidding...

Let us know how they OC. Was thinking about jumping to ADL but only if I can get 6400+, hoping for 6600-6800.
The reason I ask is because they are available for pre-order here.CROSSHAIR X670E HERO / R9 7950X3D / RTX 4090 GAMING OC / TRIDENT Z5 NEO RGB 6000 CL30 / SAMSUNG 980pro 1TB / 2x SAMSUNG 980 1TB / H150i ELITE LCD / ATH-A2000Z / HX1200 / AW3821DW 38" / LG C2 OLED evo 55" / Enthoo 719 / K70 MKII + Zowie S2 / K57 + Harpoon / Xbox Series X Controller / REVERB G2 V2

Nah I want to see what AMD offers with v-cache, and by then more DDR5 options should be available so can swing either way.
Very happy with current system anyway, and would like to get at least 12 months out of it. 3 to go.CROSSHAIR X670E HERO / R9 7950X3D / RTX 4090 GAMING OC / TRIDENT Z5 NEO RGB 6000 CL30 / SAMSUNG 980pro 1TB / 2x SAMSUNG 980 1TB / H150i ELITE LCD / ATH-A2000Z / HX1200 / AW3821DW 38" / LG C2 OLED evo 55" / Enthoo 719 / K70 MKII + Zowie S2 / K57 + Harpoon / Xbox Series X Controller / REVERB G2 V2

Intel Core i9-12900KS, a direct response to AMD Ryzen with 3D V-Cache? Intel is preparing a new SKU offering the best performance out of all Alder Lake CPUs. Our sources claim that a new processor called Intel Core i9-12900KS is now being tested by board partners. It is basically a pre-binned SKU with an all-core […]

Nice.
I don't think V-cache will be much of a threat, though. Intel is solidified as the gaming king right nowOriginally posted by curioEat this protein bar, for it is of my body. And drink this creatine shake, for it is my blood.

According to sources close to Videocardz, Intel is reportedly working on a pre-binned high-performance variant of the Core i9-12900K. The Core i9-12900KS could hit 5 GHz on all cores, right out of the box. It remains to be seen if this is enough to take on AMD's upcoming 3D V-Cache-refreshed Ryzen parts.

Alder lake is a good improvement but it probably wont take much for AMD to match it or even pass it slightly. Considering the platform AL is on, 40% increased pinout on the cpu, ddr5, pcie5... it should have an unbeatable lead but R5k gives it a run for its money at times.
Then we get AM5 where the AMD platform catches up. If AM5 only notches things up 10-15% it'll be a big disappointment.I talked to the tree. Thats why they put me away!..." Peter Sellers, The Goon Show

A performance test for 41 games using 12900K DDR5 6000 CL 36 over DDR 4 3600 CL14
Averaging:
3% perf increase at 1080p for DDR 5
2% at 1440p for DDR 5
1% at 4K for DDR 5
A few games netted 20% increase but mostly they were identical and also some were in the negatives.
Them prices are worth it for DDR5
Also hope KAC is happy with the run down plus link to video.

You need to list the power and voltage you're running to know what is and isn't good. Are you using an LGA1700 mounting kit? Ambient temp? Too many factors to judge off of just the temps alone.Originally posted by curioEat this protein bar, for it is of my body. And drink this creatine shake, for it is my blood.

I'm running stock everything. Ambient temp, around the low 20 degrees but I can't be accurate. Core volts are at 1.163 with core speed at 4.5 Ghz. Temps are consistently hovering around mid 70s, high 60s right now during testing but peak temps manage to hit low 80s.
Only the retro fit stands are in use. No LGA1700 bracket. Trying to get a rough idea where this setup is at.
Looking at others responses they too appear to be running low to mid 80s in Cinebench R23 everything stock. Just found a post now so perhaps that's about ball park.

What are you using to read temps/voltage? Use HWINFO64 if you aren't.
Temps seem ok. Still pretty high for 1.163v but it depends on the wattage as I said. You can see all of that in hwinfo.
I hit mid 70s at 1.3v under load in CB23 pulling around 230watts if I remember correctly, but that's on a custom loop with a HKIV w/ 1200 mounting kit. Once I get the 1700 kit installed it'll likely be mid-high 60s.Originally posted by curioEat this protein bar, for it is of my body. And drink this creatine shake, for it is my blood.

I’m using core temp.
Watching HWinfo, max temps so far are in the low to high 70s. I’m averaging 69 across 6 core, averaging 72 on core 5. Seems Core Temp is showing slightly higher temps on some cores. I think I might just bin that app.
What wattage setting shall I look at for wattage info? CPU package power is peaking at 150wLast edited by Megaman; Dec 24, 2021, 05:33 AM.

Core 5 on core temp shows 86 degrees peak. HWinfo shows 79. All others are low/mid 70s in HWinfo. These numbers look better.
Im not looking at E cores.
I’m now seeing Vcore at 1.305 and 4.9 boost. Temps have not hit 80s. Looks like the H150i is doing well.
My results this 5 minute run
