            Rumor: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X with 10 Cores, Ryzen 3 7300X with 4 Cores Spotted

            AMD is filling out their Ryzen 7000 Series lineup.

            AMD Ryzen 7 7800X could feature 2 more cores than predecessor, according to the new leak. This X-series SKU has just been spotted on Geekbench along with Gigabyte B650 AORUS motherboard.

            It looks like the 7800X could be the first AMD Ryzen CPU with 10 cores and 20 threads (not including the Embedded series). The software also confirms the CPU would boost up to 5.38 GHz, so max frequency could go as high as 5.4 GHz. With 10 cores, two Zen4 chiplets need to be enabled. This means that the CPU has 64MB of L3 cache, so twice as much as Ryzen 7 7700X.

            Furthermore, there is a first entry of Ryzen 3 7300X CPU. This is a quad-core processor according to the data collected by the software. It would boost up to 5.0 GHz and have 32MB of L3 cache.

              AMD Releases AM5 AGESA 1.0.0.3, Reintroduces C-State Boost Limiter w/ >4 Cores Loaded

              Available now or coming soon, depending on your motherboard and its manufacturer.

              AMD released the latest version of the AGESA microcode for Socket AM5 platform. The new version 1.0.0.3 most notably reintroduces a Precision Boost C-state limiter that [accidentally?] got removed with version 1.0.0.2. This limiter prevents the CPU cores from boosting above 5.50 GHz when more than 4 cores are active (i.e. experiencing heavy workload). SkatterBencher demonstrated how this affects performance on Ryzen 7000-series desktop processors.

              NopBench, a utility developed by ElmorLabs, lets you figure out the maximum boost frequency obtainable as workload scales across available CPU cores (i.e. starting from 1-thread, to n-thread). NopBench invokes the NOP instruction, and measures the number of NOP instructions can be processed per second. To make the NOP throughput comparable among processors of different microarchitectures, an architecture-specific factor is used, which for "Raphael" is 2.5x. By comparing the NOP throughput of a Ryzen 9 7950X processor tested with AGESA 1.0.0.2 to 1.0.0.3 (ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme BIOS versions 0611 vs. 0705); SkatterBencher was able to confirm that that the boost limiter is back in place, and limits Precision Boost frequency to 5.50 GHz when the NopBench load exceeds 4 cores.

                      Got the new build going last night and did some benchies. The scores are from my 9900k setup and my 7950x

                      In Cinebench r23 I went from single core 1268 to 2018
                      Multi went from 11736 to 38621

                      3dMark cpu score went from 7307 to 16238

                      Fire strike. Overall - 31416 to 44145.
                      Fire Strike Extreme - 22223 to 25024
                      Fire Strike Ultra - 13105 to 13650
                      Time Spy - 18459 to 19884
                      Time Spy Extreme - 7324 to 10899
                      Port Royal - 14259 to 14307

                      Most importantly, I have gained fps in MSFS2020.

                      It's a pretty big jump in computing power from the 9900k.

                      EDIT: Also, that is with ram that is having a hard time clocking up. It's currently stuck at 4790...

                              do you have a DRAM training config page where you can enable/disable training segments?

                              try looking for "DIMM DFE TRAINING" and enable that.

                                Had a few teething issues with this platform that I've never experienced with intel, and thought to myself 'friends don't let friends do AMD'..

                                First was blue screens from any memory setting above 5600mhz. Bios update fixed that.

                                Secondly was a regular hitch every second or so.. it drove me nuts. After some googling I disabled 'USB suspension' which fixed it completely.


                                Once resolved, and after a bit of PBO tuning, this machine is a pleasure to work with. I'm super impressed. Everything runs a like a dream at great efficiency. Got memory up to 6400, fabric to 2100, and 5.4GHz all core with little effort. If I knew what I was doing, I'm sure I could get a chunk more out of it. It feels super quick.

                                  Glad you like it.

                                  I just disabled selective suspend on mine as a just in case type of thing.

                                  I set a thermal setpoint in the BIOS of 85 on mine, XMP profile, and that was it. Haven't done much else in the BIOS beyond adjusting fan speeds.

                                    AMD Issues Performance Advisory for Ryzen 7000 Series Processors

                                    New products, new problems.

                                    AMD has issued a new advisory regarding the performance characteristics of its new Ryzen 7000 processors, saying that it had received reports of unexpected performance deltas in some games — as we experienced firsthand in our testing with the Ryzen 7000 processors and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 — and will work with game devs to optimize for its new architecture.

                                    Additionally, despite unsubstantiated reports of performance problems with Windows 11, the company hasn't seen any unexpected results when comparing Windows 10 and Windows 11. Here's AMD's full advisory:

                                    "We have been made aware of reports of unexpected performance deltas in certain games with AMD Ryzen desktop processors as well as performance variances between Windows 11 and Windows 10 in certain game titles. We are currently investigating but based on testing to date have not observed a material difference in game performance between OS versions across a variety of operating scenarios and game titles.

                                    "Many factors affect gaming performance, including the game engine, CPU architecture, GPU selection and memory choices. As new architectures enter the market, we often observe performance anomalies which must be addressed by the component vendor or the game publisher. This is not a new phenomenon nor is it unexpected.

                                    "As we have done since the introduction of Ryzen, when these performance anomalies are brought to light we will use them to steer our partner engagements with game developers and ecosystem hardware partners to implement optimizations that eliminate the variations."

                                    The advisory mirrors what the company told us after we shared our own results that exposed a few new performance inversions with the Ryzen 7000 processors. These inversions, wherein single-CCD (chiplet) Ryzen models outperformed dual-CCD models that have more cores, occurred in three of the eight game titles we tested with the new RTX 4090 GPUs: Warhammer 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and F1 2022. We've also heard of similar trends with The Riftbreaker and Metro Exodus.

                                      "Zen 4" Delidding Hints At A Big Bandwidth Bump For Ryzen 7000 3D V-Cache CPUs

                                      Better, stronger, faster!

                                      AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a bizarre processor. Historically, to make a faster CPU, you either improve the architecture or increase the clock rate, but AMD made huge, double-digit percentage gains in gaming by simply slapping an extra 64MB of L3 cache on top of its existing CPU. The company's about to do the same thing with its Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 processors, and according to recent analysis, it may see even bigger gains.

                                      This information originates with Tom Wassick, who does semiconductor packaging stuff for IBM, although he posted the news on his personal Twitter account and not as an IBM employee. After delidding his Ryzen 5 7600X and removing the thermal interface material, he noted that there appear to be more Through-Silicon Via (TSV) columns, "including at least 2 much larger and denser arrays." That implies that AMD designed the Zen 4 CCD to be more optimized for the installation of 3D V-Cache, with greater throughput between the cache die and the compute die.

                                      TSVs are essentially channels in a microprocessor that allow connections to be made through the silicon (thus the name). In this specific case, the only likely use for them would be for the application of vertically-stacked cache, which AMD calls 3D V-Cache. The company already announced that there will be 3D V-Cache versions of the Ryzen 7000 processors, and rumors have them showing up early next year—possibly with an announcement at CES.

                                        USB Selective Suspend is a very insidious feature that should be disabled on everyone's computer. That feature should just die, IMHO. It causes all sorts of problems in my experience on any platform.

                                              I went ahead and ordered one. I need more cores and also unfortunately memory for segmented AV1 compression, and calculating out price/performance for the whole system this was only 10% more per core than buying another 5950X, so I made the jump. The faster single core speed may be useful in other aspects of the workload.

                                              Actually it's dropped by $10 since I put my order through yesterday, so I guess demand still isn't that great even at this price?

                                              Motherboard prices are still meh. I got a Gigabyte B650M Aorus Elite for $190 after rebate (please don't let me down again!) that Buildzoid thought looked good from a price/performance standpoint. It was one of the cheaper boards, but also one of the few that has an optical out which I would like to have to send 5.1 audio to my receiver (I guess optical is slowly being phased out?). I'd have liked to have a full ATX, but honestly don't really need extra PCI-e slots on this machine, so whatever.

                                              The biggest issue is still the memory price. I ended up paying $372 for 64 GB of memory which is insane! I could have got something a little cheaper if I'd gone for 5200 MHz, but even then it would be around $300, so I just thought I'd pay a little bit of a premium for something halfway decent (memory speed doesn't appear to affect compression performance, but I'd rather not skimp and later regret it). The sticks are Kingston, so hopefully they're Hynix, which I guess are the best price/performance DDR5 sticks? In comparison you can get 64 GB of DDR4 for around $170, albeit not with amazing timings but you don't really have that much choice at that capacity for DDR4 (I guess you can spend $400+ for 4x16GB Samsung B-die but that's just ridiculous for a non-gaming machine).​

                                                    Yeh me too, using 7700x as placeholder. I heard they're only releasing 6 and 8 core X3D variants though, which is a bit disappointing, Hope that's not true.

                                                    On a side note, very happy with the 7700x. It's a great gaming CPU.

                                                      Building on my last post I actually purchased a 5800X3D to replace my 5900X. Whilst I did see improvements in FPS in some games most of them that I play don’t actually benefit from the extra cache. I did lose out on multi tasking and games now take slightly longer to load and perform shader cache operations.

                                                      Overall, the processor achieves its promise of delivering high FPS. For a 1440P 240 Hz build it did make sense to get that extra frame rate. However, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone except 5600X or 5800X peasants.

                                                      For 4K gaming this will most likely be a wash as well.

                                                        I got bored today and tried to manually adjust my CPU to hit the same or higher performance than default with the lowest temps possible. I set the PBO to manual and adjusted the max watts to 180watts. I set the negative voltage offset curve to 30 because I won the silicon lottery with this chip and that's it. Under 100% all core load the CPU boosts to 5.2Ghz on all cores and achieves a Cinebench R23 multi core score of 38,000 points. It's boosting 100Mhz higher on all cores than stock and scoring about 1000 points higher than stock settings. Max temperature was just 79C under 100% all core load at 5.2Ghz with less than 160watts of power usage. My cooling system is set to balanced mode and noise levels don't even change and remain completely silent when I run these benchmarks. Really great results for running 3D renders all day.​​

                                                          Nice. I got my 7700x to 5.5 all core but temps are a bit high. With -30 and AI tuner it sits at 5.4 all core and runs about 10-12c cooler in the mid 70's. Boosts to 5770 single core.

                                                              I have kingston hynix-m cl32 6400 m/t and a 7950x. Suddenly in the last week or two I've been having random bsod reboots win32kfull.sys system_service_exception.

                                                              Never happens in a game but it does happen whenever I'm CPU mining at some random point usually within 24-48 hours of continuous run-time. No BIOS version or settings changes. Near as I can tell something has decided to get flaky here. I have it set to JEDEC 4800 right now and am testing.

                                                              Sucks, but my CPU may have up and decided the memory controller doesn't want to run at 6400 any more. Maybe that isn't a big deal since I've heard 6000 is somehow a 'sweet spot' for AM5 and DDR5? Not sure yet whether JEDEC resolved the issue and even if it does whether the system will tolerate 6000 or not.

                                                                I've read that despite good initial testing results, it's actually very difficult to properly stabalize 6400.

                                                                Out of curiosity, are you running 1t? By default anything over 6000 reverts to 2t, so you may want let it run at 2t if you forced lower command rate.

                                                                  Yeah, no fancy custom water loop and no De-Lide. It can do 5.4Ghz at 95C or 5.3Ghz at 85C. 75C seems to drop down to 4.9Ghz all core so about 80C at 5.2 Ghz is the spot for leaving it on running at max load all day. Never breaks 80C and runs faster than stock. Setting a watt cap is the key to squeezing out every bit of performance between common thermal boundaries.

                                                                    For a while it seemed OK and all of the sudden problems started to present. Anyway, if leaving it at JEDEC 4800 seems to resolve the issue I will try turning XMP back on and then manually setting 6000 next.

                                                                      I bet that will fix the problem. AMD has some problems with the memory controller beyond 6000. I left mine at 6000 and used overclocking headroom to push the timings down.

                                                                        No huge surprise. AM4 had the same memory controller problems, maybe worse, when the 1700/1800x came out. Most people couldn't even hit PC3200 speeds.

                                                                          I'm actually really happy with memory stability so far. I'm using a 4 stick configuration that wasn't officially supported by the mobo manufacturer and it not only runs stable at XMP values but I've pushed the the cas latency down 6 points and the other timings a couple points with zero issues after weeks of rendering and playing games. It used to be such a struggle with people using time calculators and trying all sorts of crap to get things optimal. My experience so far has been positive other than the boot up times.

                                                                              I might give that a try. I put it back on xmp1 this morning then manually set a clock of 6000.

                                                                              System got through POST just fine after that but when it went into windows it was an immediate bugcheck reboot lol. No crashdump file was created that time around. I power cycled it after that and it came up OK. So I'm going to test it anyway as-is. But if there are issues again I'll try xmp2.

                                                                                If you have disabled memory training in order to speed up your boot times you might want to roll back to the default. I've heard that it causes memory stability problems on some boards. Something to try.

                                                                                  I have no idea what setting that is in the MSI BIOS. I don't think I have enabled it. I really haven't done all that much beyond setting a thermal setpoint of 85c and turning XMP1 on.
