I was pretty excited until they showed the head to head with Intel 10900K and the 5900X and most of the games at 1080P were only 2-6% faster. Ehhhhh....

Ah, I was comparing back when I was looking. Both the 3900X and 9900K were the same price, or near enough it didn't matter. But the AMD motherboards were far more expensive...

It was cheaper to build Intel by $150-$200 for the same boards/parts.

I hope that was the mid range one. Not enough info on big navi yet. We'll have to wait for 3 weeks more again.

I guess I would also like to know how zen 3 is against a overclocked 10900K. I’m thinking they will be close, and I would guess we are still stuck at hardly any change in gaming performance at 4K.

The performance numbers aren't as great once you actually look at them. 19% IPC uplift to Ryzen 3, yes. But in most cases the 5900x barely out classes the 10900k. And thats at stock. We already know Ryzen 5000 will have zero OC headroom, it's already been reported its less than current gen. Which means very likely 10900k and 5900x are likely very close, with some games matching out to 5900x and likely some games going to the 10900k OCed. Performance king, yes will be the 5900X.

Now factor the 10700k and 10600k. Both perform very close to the 10900k. In fact in some benches the 10700k is equal or above a 10900k at the same OC. For $350.

So now you have the $449 5800X which is slower than the 5900x playing against the 10700k, and it's not going to win, at $100 more. We aren't even factoring the 10850k sku here.

Ryzen needed the 5800X to be at 5700X expected price/performance. Instead that sku is gone.

Performance wise in gaming, we don't know if the 5800x is slower. AMD has presented a competing product across the board, the price is justified (5900x is $50 cheaper than intel's 10900k) both on that merit and the fact that with the pandemic, inflation, and the economic impact of it all.

We will see what the real world reviews show when they come out. Then we will know for sure.

For ocing the big question is the node. We know its 7nm but what if they used EUV this time. There was no mention of that here... If its 7nm EUV vs the 3000 gen 7nm DUV there may be some oc room left in the tank.

Need to wait for benchmark reviews but to me it looks like 5000 series may not beat Intel across the board in performance numbers, but still better in performance per dollar.

To me this makes AMD the better choice because in most cases the performance differences are so small its likely not going to be noticed in normal usage. You can pay more for Intel to get the best performance, but in reality what is that extra performance really getting you that makes it worth while in a tangible sense? I think it just equates to bragging rights at that point.

If I were you a Ryzne 5900 would be awesome. Even Jay stated that after testing a 2080Ti on an 8700 and then on a 10900k he saw performance uplift. A 5900 would be great for you.

I probably won't be upgrading right away from my 3700X. I've already spent big bucks on a 3080 and I've got an Xbox Series X on preorder. I'll snag a 5800X or above next year sometime and milk the last of AM4 for a while.
