They just added the 1.2.0.3 bios with Ryzen 5k support to the GB x370 K5 mobo now. If you flashed to 1.2.0.5 you can still flash back to it no problems. These are new so called 'encapsulated bioses' but it doesnt seem to bother going to an older version.

AMD’s first Ryzen processor equipped with 3D V-Cache memory, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, now has a release date: April 20. According to Disclosuzen, who near perfect track record, this CPU will launch at 449 USD, the original price of Ryzen 7 5800.

Furthermore, we learn more details about Ryzen 7 5700X, the ‘affordable’ 65W 8-core CPU supposedly launching at 299 USD. This CPU has a base clock of 3.4 GHz, which is 400 MHz lower than 5800X. However, the boost clock will be just 100 MHz lower.

AMD is also launching 6-core Ryzen 5 CPUs: 5600 and 5500. Contrary to previous report, both SKUs supposedly have SMT enabled (so they have 12 threads). There is a small difference in clock speeds though: the 5600 has 3.5/4.4 GHz clocks whereas the 5500 comes with 3.6 and 4.2 GHz frequencies for base and boost respectively. It would also appear that 5500 features 16MB of L3 Cache, while 5600 comes with 32MB. This is likely because 5500 is based on Cezanne silicon, while 5600 is based on Vermeer.

Kinda not surprised they would lock it... Many have wondered what clocks would be with any kind of silicon stacking on cpus. But with core numbers and cache mattering more and more we may stop caring too much about clocks eventually.

65w tdp but boost clock is only 100 mhz less than a 5800x. Base clock 400 mhz less.

Yeah for pcie5, gross overkill and nice that we can save on lanes with pcie5 NVME's, but I think there could be a 4 channel memory argument in there somewhere for those who want 16+ cores.

my threadripper was a mistake .

a 500+ buck asus zenith extreme and it was obsolete after the threadripper 2000's

but what killed it for gaming was the loss of SLI/CFX
without 2 and 3 way SLI/CFX you don't need all those PCIE lanes for gaming

so my 1900x and zenith extreme is getting a 5900x and a second crosshair viii hero wifi

a SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB - M.2 NVMe, CPU and Waterblock already on ready to install

just waiting on the 64GB memory

going to start scanning in a lot old family photos and digitize them on a Epson Expression 1640XL at the highest DPI i can and clean them up

and that likes memory so i may add a second 64 GB if needed and makes it faster

and i may look for a good used Epson Expression 10000XL that is 2400 x 4800 dpi

Oh ya thats a good use case. Have some of the old photos and using walmart to copy them doesnt give the best results. The original old B&W and sepia could have very high resolution.

Whats funny when thinking about ram is that I had a out of memory browser crash a few days ago... had like 50+ tabs open lol. 16 gigs isnt enough.

Its got to be one of the longest upgrade paths in the entire history of pc building as I bought the K7 the day it came out. I just dont know how far Ill go on this yet. Not sure which cpu and maybe a ram upgrade...

Dang you're right... I was running intel in the day so wasnt sure. I had had a 486 dx4-100 before that gen then skipped until the venerable K7.
