Let me try and call people asshole on the forum and see how far I last.
Don't fret, I did not call you any such name. You, in fact, violated rules by using profanity. I just changed it a bit joking around and you know this.
Not sure sure it ever was off the table as the rumors about that werent that solid... But now with am5 having only pcie4 at least first gen and out early 2022 warhol might not have along life to it. Unless its the first gen of cpu to run on am5... With zen 4 only coming out later.
Guess we'll have to wait and see but the rumor about am5/pcie4 is from a pretty solid source.

AMD Ryzen Raphael 'Zen 4' Desktop CPU Expected Features:
Brand New Zen 4 CPU Cores (IPC / Architectural Improvements)
Brand New TSMC 5nm process node with 7nm IOD
Support on AM5 Platform With LGA1718 Socket
Dual-Channel DDR5 Memory Support
28 PCIe Gen 4.0 Lanes (CPU Exclusive)
105-120W TDPs (Upper Bound Range ~170W)
The only thing about the leak being its still pcie4 for now but since little satureates pcie4. Wonder if pcie5 or 6 will be had later by bios update this time.

The heat is already bad on these chips. Apparently they just shaved down the CCX and placed this on top, but this will likely just exacerbate the crazy temps on these dense chips.
I'm curious if AMD knows something about AlderLake that we don't, that is pushing them to release a really weird idea to eek out some extra performance. 3D stacking cache and shaving down CCXs to fit it.. very strange indeed to change an already existing design like that.
We'll see how it actually performs.

- its one layer with 64 MB
- no major effects on thermals
- modest latency increase compared to the L3$
- small impact on power consumption
- the CCD is thinned to add the 3D V-Cache
It is possible an increase price over the 5x00x because of the 3d v-cache and all new stuff.
Prices will be dictated by competition with intel. At least to some degree. I mean I wouldnt buy a 6800x that is 2x the price of the alder lake equivalent...
I just hope its on am5. And that am5 has both ddr4/ddr5 support so I can reuse my ram for now.

This is not AM5 imo. It's just a Zen3 refresh that will battle alder lake.Keep in mind that new boards with X570S will apear. If there was AM5 this year it would make the X570s a waste of resources and r&d for all parties involved.

This has likely already been asked somewhere in the last 45 pages, but do 5000s run hot, or did they just put the thermal sensor in a hotter place?
My STOCK CLOCK 5600x was hitting 90C+ in gaming when I first installed it. I check the heatsink, and the TIM smear was not even at all. I decided against lapping the processor since it has pins on it and I don't want to risk bending them, so I instead flipped the heatsink around and the TIM smear was smaller overall, but much more centered. That took over 10C off my temps, but 80C is still high for a 65watt TDP with a 92mm heatpipe tower.
Idle temps tend arent' great either, often going above 45C while doing very little.

In load 75 C with the case fans at very low RPM so very bad airflow. And 62 C with the case fans at max. Also my Ninja 4 fan has also 3 positions of speed. It is on medium all time.So when i am gaming Cyberpunk i had switch case fans at max and i get around 62-65 C max.My tim is Arctic mx 5.
in idle is around 46 - 50 C idle.

Well, the overclocker Shamino has put the B2 revision of the AMD Ryzen 5000 to the test, choosing for this the 12-core CPU, the Ryzen 9 5900X, under said stepping and after cooling it with water, he achieved reach 5.15 GHz in overclock, a speed that is not better than the previous one, but there is a series of data that it obtained that are interesting:
Generates 9 ° C less temperature than the B0 model and also consumes 30 W less.
The clock speed achieved in the Prime95 stress test with multiple cores it is 60 MHz higher.

pcie5 at this point and I'm sure for many years has zero benefit. We are just now finally getting close to maxing out pcie3, also if true they are talking that the new Intel releases will only have 1 pcie5 slot that is going to be the GPU. Oh boy, there's going to be zero gains there.
It does have benefit, you're just not thinking about it. If I can run my GPU at PCIE5.0 x4 and have same speeds as PCIE3.0 x16, which the GPU doesn't saturate, then I can save PCIE lanes on my CPU and allocate those to a sound-card, NVME drives, or whatever expansion devices one uses. Whether devices specifically see performance benefits or not is honestly not the biggest reason for it. It's super beneficial if I can run the GPU at x4 or x8, and then my NVME drive can run full speed without having to involve a PCH. Less latency is a good thing.

Also should play a role in the data transfer from nvme to gpu in large high detailed seemless open world games. In the same vein as the tech in the PS5.

yeah pcie5 is going to mostly be useful for storage for the first few years.

PCIe 5 is a more of a marketing tool than an actual functional feature. While it's theoretically nice to have that bandwidth I doubt that real world usage will test it. Benchmarking might. But think about it, you'd have to max out graphics, sound, storage, other peripherals, and CPU all at once for the benefits to even be theoretically measurable. How often does that really happen in daily use?? And at that point scheduling would kick in anyway and be the limiting factor.
Bandwidth means nothing if you don't have the hardware to take advantage of it.
PCIE5 at this point is like having a 20 lane Autobahn for 1 Toyota Prius.
