So was kinda shopping around just browsing at available memory for ryzen 5000. If you want to just drop it in and run it without manually screwing with clocks and timings, the only kit out there that is 3600mhz 14-15-15-35 and dual rank is this one:
            https://www.newegg.com/team-32gb-288...82E16820331593

Samsung b-die, and its out of stock everywhere. Almost all kits out there including gskill are single rank modules.

This single vs dual rank a serious thing at 1440P and over? Hardware Unboxed review was pretty clear that the difference for gaming is marginal at 1440P and above. Plus his single rank 4 sticks were faster than dual rank 2 sticks.

I am still pretty confused about what to do whenever I build a new rig.

Same here. Seems like all the 2x8gb kits are single rank too. Not really possible to get dual rank 2x8gb without going higher in timings to c16.

Thats because they act as dual ranks when running 4 dimm slots.

And dual rank dimms run slower than single rank...

Exactly ^ get 4 sticks and it behaves as dual rank anyway, and single rank modules generally run at higher speeds

4 single rank sticks depending on the topology of the motherboard will likely not overclock as well as 2 dual rank sticks.

Well looks like I'm going back to 16GB. Decided to go ahead and get some 3800mhz CL14 samsung b-die. Fire sale incoming on my 32GB CL16 hynix kit.

This is what I ended up getting:
                          https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-...quicklink=true

I waited around most of the day hemming and hawing over it and this ended up going out of stock. Can't hardly find it anywhere else, so I picked it up off amazon and paid an extra $40.

EDIT: Lol n/m, they sent me a message and it's backordered now. FU 2020.

It's not quite as good (at least based on the official rating), but I have a 2x8 GB 4000 CL17 kit of TridentZ RGB I am looking to part with. It's new in box from an RMA replacement. I guess they just tossed my sticks and sent back a sealed retail box.

It's actually a better rating than the stuff they're currently selling on Newegg, since it's 17-17-17-37 at 1.35v, whereas the new stuff is lower binned 17-18-18-38 at 1.4v.

The kit cost me a ridiculous like $330 back when memory was expensive. Glad prices have come down since then.

Anyway if you or anyone else is interested, I'll part with it for $140 shipped to U.S..

Thanks I appreciate the offer. I cancelled the backorder on amazon and I think I'm going to sit tight for now. Once I get the 5950x and the 6800 I'm after, then I may consider hunting around for memory modules again. It's not like I'm really hurting with a 32gb pc3600 cl16 kit, but the samsung cl14 stuff would have been a bit of a boost.

What can you do, I noticed most of the more desirable kits are also all sold out right now it's not just this one.

Undervolting and PBO2 coming in December bios updates.

                                        https://www.techpowerup.com/275065/a...for-ryzen-5000

AMD has announced they will be introducing Adaptive Undervolting tools for their precision Boost Overdrive software, available for the latest Ryzen 5000 series CPUs. This feature will be made available come launch of AGESA 1180 on 400-series and 500-series motherboards (estimated availability in early December), and will require a BIOS update to enable at the software level. According to AMD, this tool will dynamically calculate the precise amount of voltage required for a given task, analyzing internal sensors (such as workload, temperature, socket limits) and adapting voltage values on the fly at up to 1000 times a second.
                                        https://www.tomshardware.com/news/am...d-tremendously

The new PBO2 boosts single-threaded performance while retaining the benefits of the existing multi-core boosts, and even adds a little extra oomph there, too.

The new PBO2 only works with Ryzen 5000 series processors, and AMD is also bringing in a new sophisticated undervolting technique to Ryzen 5000 processors for the undervolters among us.

We have plenty of testing that shows the benefits of PBO in our recent Ryzen 9 5950X and 5900X reviews, not to mention the Ryzen 5 5600X review. Still, AMD's impressive demo benchmarks show PBO2 basically enabling users to step up a tier over their existing processor in single-threaded performance.

                                        BUT

For example, PBO2 grants the Ryzen 7 5800X nearly the same exceptional single-threaded performance of the beastly Ryzen 9 5900X. As with all overclocking, and AMD's policy with the first-gen PBO, the new PBO2 invalidates your warranty. But given the relatively risk-free performance gains we've seen with PBO, and the fact that the automatic nature of the feature avoids using excessively dangerous amounts of voltage, we think PBO2 overclocking will continue to be the safest path to wringing out the best performance possible. That said, proceed at your own peril.
Hardly makes sense. If its something thats integrated to the official bios it shouldnt void warranty.

It's surprising how many people post their activities online and then refer to them for warranty purposes.

Yeah, there's no way they can know, as long as you don't say something stupid. My rule when trying to RMA anything is never admit to anything besides running it stock.

That being said, I feel like it's a bit BS that PBO technically voids the warranty in the first place. It really shouldn't do enough that it would cause a perfectly good chip to fail. The only real risk from overclocking is with people who feed their chip too much voltage (and there seem to be quite a few, since they "don't care about power consumption" and "don't want their chip to last ten years" and as a result think they have a license to act stupidly). But that situation shouldn't occur simply by running PBO.

I looked through reviews and no one mentions if the memory controller has been updated as far as Writes are concerned?

Can someone with a Ryzen 5000 run Aida 64 and post what memory write speeds look like?
