It's a close fit I'll post up if there's any difference in temps vs the Gemini II that it replaced.

I expect the proc itself will be much cooler, but the mem & mobo components are going to miss the GeminII. I'm looking forward to hearing if it impacts your overclockability!

Nice pics Caveman. I`ve read what others think of the push/pin design with this cooler, what do you think ? Yay or nay ?
It is regrettable that many personal fortunes are made by people who simply manipulate money and contribute nothing to their society.

The dream of eternal life is far more compelling than living one.

                                        Small system upgrade

                                        Small system upgrade

After two years of use I developed a crack in my CPU waterblock.
The CPU waterblock leak spilled just a little fluid on my video card.
Since the fluid is non-conductive there was no damage to any of the parts. Only the CPU water block was lost.
Since I had to remove the motherboard to fix the issue I decided to upgrade my main system as the same time.

So what did I do with the extra parts

I moved the "DFI Lanparty UT CFX3200-DR Socket 939" motherboad to one of my Linux test systems.

Moved AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core to test system as well.

The AMD Athlon 4000+ in the test box was moved to one of my other Linux test systems.

CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) was moved to main Linux system. Now my main Linux box has 4GB of memory.

A lot of the systems here were updated in some way with this change.
I removed my older socket 940 based system from service with these upgrades.

Thermaltake CPU Water Block - Was broken.. Moved to trash can.

That better not be at 2.3Ghz still. What volts and temps do you get at your max speed? Nice rig! + Rep.

No difference so far. Haven't tried a prime load test yet, though. I did think about the board cooling, which is why I added an extra yate loon on the upper HDD compartment. There are now two fan there - one in front of the upper tray chamber, and one held on with the provided fan clips on the rear. This gives a lot of airflow into the upper chamber, straight to the gpu and nb, not so much to the memory, but I'm hoping the HSF and rear/upper fans cause a convection to pull warm air away from the memory.

push pins do an excellent job, for me. They seem to be higher quality than the normal Intel ones; mine slotted in securely and with minimal fuss. However, I did my installation with the motherboard unsecured from the standoffs, as I had to remove the bolt-through Gemini. I recommend for any HSF install to do it with the motherboard out of the case, unless its just physically not possible. That way you can brace and support the board, etc., however is needed for a secure install.

                                              temperature

No overclocking yet but I did do some stress testing.

Using the new AMD AOD "AMD OverDrive" 2014 beta to check all cores:

AMD AOD : 29C idle, 38.5C full load.
ASUS PC PROBE II: 36C idle, 44C full load.
External probe (AeroCool GateWatch): 29C idle, 32.5C full load.

I am sure the core is a tad warm at full load but my case is cold to the touch. Even if the 44C is correct from ASUS this is very cool for this processor.

The external probe in effect is seeing the water block temperature.

                                              What's running
                                              1. Mersenne Prime 95 torture test version 2.56 with thread support so we can load all core to 100% usage quickly!http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=9779
                                              2. ATI MMC recording a HD OTA broadcast in 1080i.
                                              3. Windows Media Player 11 playing 'Amazon_1080.wmv' a nice 1080P clip. We have media player set to play the film in loop mode.
                                              4. Cyberlink PowerDVD 7 is playing the movie "Wild Hogs".
                                              5. GraphEdit is playing a divx movie.
The following test ran for over an hour. I did restart the MMC recoding but we got a good 1/2 recording in after the restart. The show I was recording ended.

Note: Everything played perfect even during the torture test!
The video I recorded played back fine with no dropped frames or other issues.

You can thow a hell of a lot at this system and it just handles it!

It's a Dominator cooler. Basicly a ram cooler unit, made to fit over Corsair Dominator ram.

do you know if they are loud? small fans tend to be..
I think they're pretty slow spinning so shouldn't be too loud. Ram doesn't require much in the way of airflow.

Everest is showing 5700RPM but, accurate or not, I don't hear them w/ the case closed (Cosmos 1000 is well insulated so ymmv).
