First rig in 16 years!

Ok so I just built my first rig in 16 years, after spending most of that time using iMacs and MacBook Pros. I spent the last year or so getting set up for a Mac-less home (well, less Mac-dependent) by 1) moving my iTunes library to a Synology NAS and then setting up Plex to reference those files, to avoid duplication/redundancy and 2) setting up a Raspberry Pi to run HomeBridge (rather than having to run it on my Mac) so that all of my non-HomeKit devices can still be controlled by Siri, etc.

With that out of the way, I built a new rig. I went with something relatively affordable that was capable of running macOS Catalina without much hassle:

• Asus Prime Z390-A
• Core i7-9700k
• Sapphire Nitro+ 5700 XT
• 32GB Corsair DDR4-3200
• 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus (for macOS)
• 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus (for Windows 10 Pro)
• 2x2TB Seagate SSHD (2.5" SATA)
• Fenvi T919 (wifi and bluetooth)
• Noctua NH-D15s
• 2x Noctua NF-A14 Chromax 140mm case fans
• 1x Noctua NF-S12A Chromax 120mm case fan
• 1x Noctua NF-A15 Chromax 140mm cooler fan
• Noctua NA-HC4 Chromax White radiator cover
• Corsair RM750x (white)
• Novonest Cable Sleeves (local company?)

I had my kids (12 and 10) help put it all together - my son installed the CPU, cooler, video card and did all the wiring himself, and my daughter did the NVMe drives, the wifi/bluetooth PCIe card, and the RAM. They had a blast, and the look on their faces when we booted up into macOS (using OpenCore 0.5.7) was priceless.

Built a rig with 10700k and 2080Ti today. Running 5.3GHz all core and DDR4 3600 with quick and dirty OC. Upgrading from 8700K at 5GHz, Cinebench score was 8% faster single core and 45% faster all core.

Demo that is exactly what I'm about to build. **** has been sitting in my office for months waiting on a new GPU. Is that the XL or the standard case? I have the XL and the EK distro. I've been putting off building it for far too long hoping to not have to tear it down just to swap the GPU.

I'm going to lazy out on the bends though and use spacers on the CPU, so I only have to do easy 90 bends.

It looks amazing.

Ha yeh that distro plate and fittings have been sitting in my spare room for about 3 or 4 months now, waiting for a reason to be used.

Just the standard PC-O11 mate, I tried to keep it compact. Omega further up the page has the XL. It looks big in photos, but this build is smaller than my monitor.

I'm going to lazy out on the bends though and use spacers on the CPU, so I only have to do easy 90 bends.

LoL I don't blame you. Bending 2 identical pipes with multiple bends for the CPU was so damn hard. I actually have some extra fittings here in case I messed it up.

Helped a work mate build his first water cooled rig. That's my old 1080Ti and CPU block in there. He's running 9900k at 5GHz and 3600 CL16 memory. Good effort fitting 2 x PE rads in there.





Made a few small changes to my rig, namely added dust filter to hide fans at bottom, changed lighting and minor cable management - but those PCIE power cables are annoying me. They're next on the list.
