Wanted a retro dos gamer machine but not take up a lot of space... It's tiny as hell especially for the time. 292 mm (width) × 224 mm (depth) × 72 mm (height), weighs about 2.5 kg
Just needs a sound card, has one ISA or PCI slot that can be used. Also probably a fan replacement as the current one is loud as hell. I suppose if I wanted more storage space I could replace the IDE hard drive with something else as it's only 1.2gb machine would run cooler then as well.
I'll shove a Pentium 200 I have into it at some point as well provided the motherboard can handle it. perhaps retrobright to make the plastic front cover look new as well.

It's not meant to use one as the officially highest supported cpu is the 166. But I was looking at the jumpers and there is an unlisted combo and what do you know, it gives the correct divider and the 200mhz works.

Would save a ton of space too boot as well as cutting one of the larger parts that makes noise and heat in the tiny system.

They work fine for dos but if I ever want to install windows 95/98 on it apparently they can much more quickly trash the cards from the heavy use the OS puts on it.

Just hearsay at this point I just have seen people repeat it as fact in a few places calming it has happened, no actual in depth testing or anything done by anyone.
Still I'm leaning towards the DoM due to it.

It was an early problem experienced when using a USB flash drive for the swap file.
My brother burned through USB drives fast enough that they never ran out of the replacement warranty.
Modern SSD do wear leveling and reserve space to handle failures.

What I meant is that it will be too fast for many classic DOS games.
I updated my system but it doesn't look a whole lot differant than it used to because I used RAM and Motherboard from the same series of products and most of my stuff is hidden under GPU blocks or mobo armor.

I set voltage on the CPU to 1.38v and pushed all eight cores to 5.3Ghz.
Prime 95 showed a few cores hitting 88C after an hour of running. I played a few games and it seems to run between 60-65C. I might see a few one second spikes to 72C but it's a pretty good chip.
Here is a few intensive scenes from hitman at 4K maxed with an OSD so you can see how it utilizes system hardware.

This was the first time doing an upgrade to the system with a full custom loop. It was a pain in the butt. Probably spent 8 hours working on it.

Thanks, I must have forgot. It's been updated. It's an older 980TI that I had from a previous SLI setup. I use it for 3D rendering and the occasional phys-x enabled game. I'll probably do the same thing with one of my 1080TI's when I upgrade my cards in the future. Also, A small update to the above. I had to bump the 9900K up to 1.4V to maintain stability. It didn't have much of an impact on temps but a few benchmarks failed after another day of testing. I think that is as far as I'm willing to push it. If I run into trouble in the future then I'll lower it to 5.2Ghz. I'm pretty confident it's good though, all of my games ran fine at 1.38v and the few benchmarks I had problems with seem to have stabilized at 1.4.

So, I finished up the system. MSI after burner is reporting 10C higher temps than my ASUS motherboard AI software. I downloaded HWmonitor and it matches what the ASUS AI is reporting. So my temps are lower than what was posted on the screen shots above.
I finalized my CPU settings just now. I set the CPU agent voltage to 1.1v and then set the voltage regulation to manual with speed step enabled. This allows the system to alter the voltage based on the CPU speeds which alter when I am not gaming. I then set the lead line voltage to level 6. When it kicks into 8core non AVX mode it uses 1.252v and when it uses AVX 8 core mode it drops down 100Mhz and uses the same 1.252 voltage. It looks like lead line 6 was the key to stability without pushing past 1.38v.
EDIT: Updated this post to reflect what I settled on. V core is down to [email protected] on all cores. Runs pretty stable and temperatures are easier to handle at quiet levels of operation. I decided to just settle for that in the end. Used an offset of 1 for AVX because prime 95 was pushing temps into the 90's. I also managed to increase my RAM from 3600Mhz to 3866MHz without changing anything at all. I boosted the voltage .01 to get it up to 4000Mhz with the original C16 Latency / timings that it had at 3600Mhz.

Now has an AsusB450 MB (MSI board fried) Corsair memory and a Ryzen 7 2700 OC processor with liquidcooling. AN AMD (AGP-esque) VII card and 1050 Cougar power supply will be added next week. Pics of both will be posted when all work is complete.

So I pushed things as hard as I could for fun but I have been messing around with optimization for everyday use. I set my I9 9900K at 5Ghz on all cores and managed a stable overclock at 1.26 VCORE set manually. I was surprised it can run at 5Ghz at that voltage level. I'm using the load line level 6 setting and my RAM has also been pushed from 3600Mhz to 4000Mhz C16-18-18-36 timing. So far it has been very stable.
Here is a picture of CineBench at 5Ghz/1.26 Vcore and maxing out at just 67C.
I used an AVX offset of 1 which will drop the core frequency to 4.9Ghz overclock on all cores when using AVX instructions for creative work. This keeps the AVX power requirements in line with non AVX power requirements.
Here is a picture of the latest version of Prime 95 running a 30 minute AVX enabled torture test at 4.9Ghz overclock on all cores with the previously mentioned 1.26 Vcore. Even though I set the Vcore manually to 1.26, HWmonitor is showing a maximum Vcore of just 1.252 at idle and of course it lowers under load thanks to Vdroop.
It stayed in the 70C range most of the time but had a few cores top out at 81C here and there. It's been really stable at just 1.26 Vcore though. My radiator fans have 3 settings.
Low: 500RPM for everyday use. Below 45C
Medium: 900 RPM for gaming. 46C-69C
High: 1500RPM which only kicks in on stress tests or if one of my pumps fail. 70C+
I'm really happy with the EK water loop I purchased, even though it is a pain to work with when changing out the motherboard. Graphic cards can be switched out pretty easily but a full system overhaul does take some extra work.
