ALERT -> Here is an updated pic of my system. Changes include: A Ryzen 5 1600, an MSI B350m motherboard, my first mini ATX, & Patriot Viper Elite memory w/ snazzy red cooler things. The R9 FURY also feels like a new card based on fps improvement resulting from upgraded processor. Pic below.

Update: I have decided the parts from the old build are simply too good to leave sitting on the shelf. I have a near MINT original Alienware (Nearly SOLID METAL) Chieftec tower. (Has a few minor scratches that I can easily fix with touch-up paint.) I am going to build an 8 core sleeper system from an ORIGINAL Alienware case, complete with the Arctic cooler & ballistic memory and a GTX950 card. Will have to buy a cheap AM3+ mb first, and it won't happen immediately, but I will post the results upon completion.
P.S. Eventually, when I buy a new video card (not anytime soon) I will put the Fury in this Alienware sleeper giant.

Update: All previous update plans for the Alienware case have been canceled. After examining the Chieftec, I decided it was simply too heavy for what I wanted in a secondary system. (Also why the Kandalf is now in storage.)
I have therefore ordered a Do it yourself Q-Bert case on sale for 40 bucks. I also ordered an ASUS mini ATX motherboard (My second mini-Atx build ) Many of the components you see in the first picture, the Arctic cooler, the 8 core processor, the Ballistic memory will go into the Q-Bert. Also going with an amplified GTX 760 that I have, rather than the gtx 950. Down the road, any update of the 760 to a 1060 or 1070 will result in quite the BATTLE BOX. Pics will be posted at some point after completion.

The Q-Bert has arrived (Love it! What a deal!) and the HIGHEST QUALITY spare parts are ready for reassembly. Just waiting on the ASUS motherboard.
*Important note -> I've recently learned that Carl ASRock Weathers removed support for AM3+ Vishera cpus from the 970 Extreme 3 motherboard support list after users had "issues". Might explain why the board died and also why I had zapping & other weird things go on for some time. Maybe the storm fried an already messed up board. Glad I threw it away after seeing this ->

I'd be well over $650 for the 2017 equivalent now. Its ridiculous.THG is to computer hardware what MTV is to music.

When this project is completed, the Q-Bert behemoth will still be able to play BF1 at high settings w/ ULTRA textures. The FX8530 is no slouch, throw in a 1070 & it can produce an in game experience similar to any Ryzen or i7 right now. (Documented)
That said, I am very excited about getting the ole Zotac gtx760 fired up. This is a card I bought new, used for about four months before unexpectedly getting a 970 as a gift, and it has been in storage in near mint condition ever since. (over two years) It will be very satisfying to install modern drivers and see what it can do... though I already know it can do quite a bit from videos shown on youtube.
Asus motherboard should arrive Monday. Stay tuned...

Maybe change to a Samsung 9500 or 7350.
I heard that the new QLED models are also good for PC.

I had an OLED for two weeks. Returned it. The forced automatic brightness on OLEDs isn't all that great for PC use.
I'd like to get a 75" MU6300. They have a 21ms input lag in 4:4:4 chroma PC mode (the only way I'd use it). Not a fan of compression in game modes. The input lag on my 70" KU6300 is pretty descent in non-compression PC mode.Last edited by AdamK47; Nov 20, 2017, 06:07 AM.AMD Ryzen 9 7950X - Asus X670E Crosshair Extreme - 32GB Corsair Dominator DDR5 6200 - MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming Trio - 1TB Sabrent Rocket 4.0 NVMe SSD - Three 8TB Sabrent Rocket Q NVMe SSDs in 24TB RAID-0 - Corsair 7000X case - Corsair H170i Elite cooler - Corsair AX1600i power supply - Razer Blackwidow V3 Pro keyboard - Logitech G Pro Wireless mouse - 77" LG G1 OLED display - Denon AVR-X3500H receiver - Klipsch 5.2.2 Reference Premier speakers with Martin Logan 800X subs

Update: The Q-bert-tratron build is running like greased lightning! All components are working perfectly in this revamped phoenix of a computer, rising from the ashes of Carl AsRock Weathers.
I also was completely successful in my first experience working with thermal paste. I usually just use the paste included with stock or aftermarket coolers, but the arctic cooler was being reused.
Currently installing windows 10 updates along w/ chipset, device, and graphics drivers.
It also looks frigan awesome! Highly recommend the DIY Q-Bert case.
Will post pics sometime tomorrow.
