Ha, the only lights in there are a blue LED in the CPU block, the green Geforce logo's and a green fan.

Im finding the want to build a small form factor ultimate PC. Is that odd? Big tower is more fun, but ever since I bought the titan. I've been really wanting to build something small, but insane at the same time. Something more "crafty" so to speak.

I've considered it in the past too. I see no reason that you couldn't shove your current pc into a small form factor case. You'll probably just need a new motherboard and psu.

I'm certainly glad I went smaller. I really like ITX systems as well.

Maybe I'll take some new pics as I updated my pc but I'm just so lazy.

I've considered it. But I have so much invested in parts I can continue to reuse with successive builds that wouldn't work easily with a smaller build, or would simply go unused. So I continue to keep rebuilding within the same large case.

I did finally see the Corsair 900D up close this weekend at Microcenter and I now know that is not the direction I want to go. That thing is stupid big. It's quite ridiculous actually. I realize it's purpose, but it looses all resemblance to elegance with it's overdone size.

I may not end up going ITX as (at least now) board choices are limited. But at least a smaller mid tower or maybe Micro ATX case could work in the future. BitFenix is supposedly releasing a 2nd version of it's Prodigy case that will support Micro ATX.

Well if you want a silent tri-sli computer without external rads you don't have much of a choice other than the 900D. That thing is a thing of beauty imo. It would be a waste to use one with normal air cooling imo.

When did you buy those cougar vortex fans? Do they grind in when mounted in that orientation?

I love the tubing, what are you using? How are those clamps? They look very nice, much nicer than normal worm drive clamps.

Awesome rig mangler! Man, I really regret going with clear tubing. I still need to tear my rig down and replace it with something else. I guess I didn't rinse-out the rad enough, and got some rust or something from it condensing in my tubing (turning it kinda yellow). Likewise, it was my first watercooling rig and I made some bad decisions about how I routed my tubing. I just don't have the patience right now to tear the whole thing down and redo.

The nice thing about black tubing beyond appearance is that it blocks light and therefore blocks any type of photosynthesis.

Of course the clear reservoir in mangler's system does allow light.

Nice build. I like systems that manage to incorporate a lot of radiator surface yet keep it all internally mounted.

When did you buy those cougar vortex fans? Do they grind in when mounted in that orientation?

I love the tubing, what are you using? How are those clamps? They look very nice, much nicer than normal worm drive clamps.
The ones that I'm currently using don't, but I'm pretty sure that they will in a few months, since some of the fans I bought did sound horrible in that orientation. So I doubt I will be using these fans for long.

Some black Masterkleer. The spring clamps work just fine, I'm sure you can get a more secure fit with worm clamps, but spring clamps are much easier to use, and they will not damage the tubing.

Honestly, I've not noticed a substantial difference.

Depending on the game, the primary card on the right (with less space around it) of the pic can hit mid 70's °C IIRC while the secondary card on the left (with more space around it) generally stays around mid 60's. Good thing there're 14cm case fans drawing cool air from the bottom going full blast. I wouldn't recommend these cards (especially in SLI) unless there is good deal of airflow inside the case. Actually, I didn't realize I was going to get these WindForce cards as I only ordered 2x Gigabyte GTX780's from the shop. The price was the same as the stock ones and I only found out when I opened the box and took the cards out.

I haven't done any comparative testing so I'm not in a position to answer. But in my situation, the cards directly dumps heat inside the case. Naturally, heat rises up and when aided by the 14cm case fans at the bottom, it should exit thru the vents at the top without much difficulty and build up inside the case. Makes perfect sense to me.

An experiment you can perform is taking a hot griddle and turning it side ways. You can probably feel the airflow but the flow rate is virtually nothing compared to even a low speed 80mm fan.

So would you say increasing the chimney effect is more effective than directed airflow?
if you have an active fan you've overcome chimney effect. just balance out intake and exhaust and look for dead spots / areas of high static pressure and you'll get improved thermals, regardless of case layout/design (front & side intake/rear exhaust or top exhaust, front/side/rear intake) as long as you give some consideration.

It should be sufficient to have vents where you want air to flow out and block areas where you don't want air to flow out. If you are pushing air into the case, the positive pressure in the case will get the air to flow out. This also has the advantage of not accidentally sucking air into the case from vents that don't have dust filters. Even if adding an exhaust fan seems to help, I would bet dollars to donuts that adding an intake fan somewhere else would make a far bigger difference.

But it also depends on the case.

The majority of the air is that is blown into the case is going to go through those rear vents whether there are exhaust fans there or not and the components that need it, get fresh air get it fed directly to them.
