gaming maybe (if the game has lots of text or subtitles, it kills it. also games with inventory systems are a bitch). watching movies/youtube videos sucks.

for productivity though it can't be beat.

Looks fantastic IMHO. Subtitles and inventory screens I can see being a pain and give credit there, but seems like heaven for anything else. Especially first persons.

Looks especially bad for first persons imo. Be great for productivity though.

Yes and no. When I have then arranged in landscape, I don't see them after awhile.

When I have them in portrait, they constantly bother me.

Portrait doesn't bother me, FPS/RTS/whatever. I don't sit right up on them. Distance is the key to triple display enjoyment for me. I don't watch movies on it. I also have a 24" ASUS IPS TN LED 120Hz screen available.

What is the minimum size screen that the benefits of 4k starts to become noticeable?

I would think it's pretty pointless on any size less than 65".

I think like any resolution, the smaller the display the better/sharper the image would be.

But isn't the purpose of 4k to have a sharper image on a larger screen?

With 1080p HDTV's, the bigger the size the pixels start to become noticeable at further distances. 4k fixes this problem.

Large 4k screens will look sharper, but I'm not sure you'll see much of a difference from 1080p with a smaller 4k screen.

Sure it would be a super expensive when it first come out on the market, but probably likely once when 4K resolution become standard and more common, so hopefully it'll be cheaper...who know?

Sure it makes larger displays look sharper, but I dont see how thats any different than a smaller display looking sharper. I mean more resolution on an equal sized display will always look better.

27" at 1440p looks better than 27" at 1080p. I guess 2160p at 27" will look better than 1440p too.

Personally I'm with baba, I think 32" at 2160p would be nice, but I would be happy with anything upto 40" or so I guess for a PC monitor.

Curious as to what size a 2160p display would be with the same pixel pitch as a 27" 1440p display. I guess a mid way point would not only increase fidelity, but also give you a larger size, so would be the best.

Depends on view distance, and you're wrong about 65". Having seen ~32"/37"/42" 4K displays this week it's definitely noticeable for desktop gaming use.

                                                      If you're 15 feet back then you'll want 60" +, but if you're 5' you'll be happy with 32" IME.

If you use the Pythagorean theorem a 27" screen has a vertical height of approximately 13.24" at a 16/9 ratio.

If you take that height against a 2160/1440 ratio that gives you a new height of approximately 19.86".

Using the Pythagorean theorem again with a 16/9 ratio, you end up with diagonal size of about 40.5" inches.

If you take that height against a 2160/1440 ratio that gives you a new height of approximately 19.86".

Using the Pythagorean theorem again with a 16/9 ratio, you end up with diagonal size of about 40.5" inches.

                                                          Someone check my math....
At the same ratio and DPI, resolution and diagonal size are proportional. E.g. doubling the resolution will double the diagonal.

                                                            If you're 15 feet back then you'll want 60" +, but if you're 5' you'll be happy with 32" IME.
I guess I am just thinking of the difference I remembered from 720p vs 1080p TV content, where everything is stretched and scaled to hell anyway. I remember the difference would only become noticeable to me above 42" or so. Anything under that both resolutions were indistinguishable for most content. So I was assuming at for example when watching a 50" display, you wouldn't notice much of a difference on a 4k TV. But yeah if you are looking at actual 4k content, it should be noticeable anytime.

That's a good point, upscaled vs. native res content.

Doubling the diagonal increases the resolution by 4 times. Which makes sense. I think that's what you probably meant.
