    do the gray tags next to the black pcb serve any purpose when it comes to reception? if not , what are they for?

    Not certain. The Wi-Fi chips I've seen do not have them, so take that for what you will.

      The only thing I can think of is that it's metalized plastic and serves to reduce EMF toward specific chip components on the motherboard.
