    IGN Resident Evil 0 Review

well, its not perfect, but when has a Resident Evil game ever been? still on my list of must haves.

    Closing Comments
If you look at our review score, you might conclude that Resident Evil 0 is somehow vastly inferior to the remake. That's not exactly true.
For me, RE0 is really a solid survival horror update complete with beautiful graphics and a moody atmosphere, but it's also a game scarred by several gaping flaws, and I couldn't let that go again, not when Capcom could have easily corrected these issues by now. The game is still scary, and if that's good enough for you then don't bother reading the rest of my comments -- go now and pick it up. You won't be disappointed. But on the other hand, the control, especially with the "Type C" option removed, is clunky, robotic, and clashes with the pace of the game, which often requires quick and precise movements. Frankly, the play mechanics are outdated, and that really puts a hamper on the experience.

The same problems interrupted the pace of the remake. But the remake was essentially an update to a classic game that managed to inspire feelings of nostalgia and still scare the hell out of you. Now, though, we have a completely new outing with the same old problems. In fact, the control is worse and the puzzles are possibly even more stupefied. That's not cool.

If you can live with the drawbacks -- the same ones as always -- you'll probably grow to like or even love the latest in the Resident Evil series. If you're unwilling to brave bad control and poorly executed puzzles in search of the next big scare, though, you might want to rent this game before you get on the train for good.

    Presentation
Frightening and realistic all around. Some of the menu work is sloppy. 9.0
    Graphics
Beautiful. Photo-realistic textures combine with amazing full motion animation backgrounds and foregrounds. Slick animation for monsters, but stiff for hero movement. Not full 3D for real camera. 9.0
    Sound
Atmospheric. Nicely done all around. Capcom uses silence at times, too, to scare, which is brilliant. No DPLII support. 9.0
    Gameplay
Still scary. Still fun, if you can forgive the clunky controls and stupid puzzles. But definitely dated. 7.0
    Lasting Appeal
As usual, there are enough hidden goodies to keep coming back for more. 6.0
OVERALL SCORE (not an average) 8.2

Hopefully RE4 will add something new to the series.

yea, RE4 is rumored to be shown this week(some event is going on tonight, where Nintendo is rumored to already announce another Metroid for GC(by Retro also), and some new stuff from Capcom is supposed to surface at some point... this is just what Matt at IGN is saying on the boards but waiting for confirmation..

RE4 does sound better, being fully 3d.. I like the old RE games, and I like the old style, there are a lot of people like me who want the controls that way, but i understand those who dont.

I don't understand why after all these years people still whine about the RE controls. Anybody who doesn't like them knows there going to be there going into the game. Everybody who's really gotten into the series knows why they're there, which is to slow down the pace of the game to make it more atmospheric and to deal with the fact that all the camera angles are fixed.

I think if RE4 is full 3d they might be able to make a more traditional control scheme work, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Gee whiz, let's mark the scores for a game TONS for stuff that was there 5 INSTALLMENTS AGO. What a great idea

That said, the reviewer has nothing to ***** about that is meaningful in my book and I'll of course be getting the game.

That's a very low score for a RE adventure, AFAIK.

Anyway, sound pretty much what I'd expect from a game of that genre.

Gamespot has their review up as well.

It seems to be better than IGN's despite the low score.

It should be called Resident Oldville. Can't beleive capcom can still fool you guys after resident evil 2. So lets look at the 'innovative' ideas they have thought of along the way: um ... urrrr.. oh yeah, in one of them they had a sidestep... then they made the backgrounds 3d. Then they improve the graphics, then they errrr change the story. Aaah well, if you like the corny acting, lame scare effects then it should be a good game for you.

So dont hold back...how do you feel about RE0?

Hehe...lame scare effects? Must have missed those, I found the GC RE to be very scary.

just an opinion... I personally don't like the resident evil games and I find the 'scare' effects are pretty lame. Kind of remind me of a bad 'B' movie but with a character who cant walk, turn or aim in a fluid way... think bad horror movie staring a thunderbird character. Sorry but 'scary' games just don't scare me.

                            and we dont like yours..
from your statements, it suggests you MIGHT have played RE on PSX, but that you certainly have no played it on GC.

if you think the models look like thunderbirds characters, you wouldnt know a good character model if it was growing out of your arse.

I dont think they look like thunderbirds characters, I think the main character moves like one. Yes the bad guys all move very nicely now, but the main character still swivells on the spot... still jerks his arm around to aim etc. You want to get offensive towards me? suprise [wink] I found the first resident evil game something quite fresh (even though it used the original Alone in the dark formula) as it had some new ideas and had a real film like aura. The next was one ok... but since then its been MILK MILK MILK... Sorry but IMO, they should have taken this genre to a new level with this generation of consoles but all they have done is improve the graphics.

and this coming from a man whom I can safely bet owns DOA3?...nice....sticking with whats tried and true isnt always a bad thing, not when people want more of it.

Um I don't own DoA3... I borrowed it and i didn't like it. Like you said it's nothing new. All my Xbox games and Cube games are the ones that try to be inovative and go somewhere with a genre. Ok I have a few sequals to old favourites but I won't buy a cash in like this.

EDIT: And it is just my opinion, which I stated earlier. Which you then decided to argue.

your right, it is just your opinion..
that you dont like the genre..
but you stated a lot of inaccuracys, which ended the opinion part, and began with trollish flaming.

I dont like a lot of games, which is why I stay out of thier threads.

your saying things that are not true about the REmake, basically, instead of playing it, you are quoting other trolls who have not played it either, to sound like you have, so you can feel like you are justifiably trashing it.

its not for everyone, but people should know by now if they like or dislike the RE franchise, its better than its ever been, but its also stayed true to its roots, they tried 3d with better controls, it was called Code Veronica, and it just did not work as well.
to get horror in a game, they need to be able to sit you up for it, if you have are able to freely look about, nothing will suprise you as well.

I'm pretty damn sure Zeus hasn't played the REmake or the new one (which I'm getting today) too.

He can't state specifically anything that changed in the mechanics of the REmake (and there was a lot) so it seems pretty evident he has no clue.

It's fine if he doesn't like the game though. I don't really care. I think RE is a great series and I know lots of people that agree.
