Sony opens registration for invite-only PlayStation 5 preorders

Sony has announced the latest step in its dragged out PlayStation 5 reveal, with the company opening online registration to possibly receive an invitation to be one of the first to pre-order the console directly from PlayStation.

According to Sony’s announcement, there will be a “limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order” this holiday season; the invitation program is a chance for existing PlayStation customers to get their shot at being able to order the upcoming console.

Yes, that's what I got too. I'm not really expecting to be notified, but it would be nice.

However I think it's a marketing trick "limited stock" " low production" that's why the price is 599, oh wait xbox is now 499, well luckily that limited production just improved, the chinese are working harder, we're also 499!

My evidence is my pulled from my ass, also they said they were making 5 million consoles, which got bumped to 10 million consoles for Holiday season.

That would be really nice, but isn't that on the devs? Or can Sony require certain titles to be upgraded?

It's upto the devs for sure, but I'm sure Sony could throw a bit of cash their way. First party and all that.

On the plus side quite a few ps4 pro titles already look amazing, and I'm hoping for an OLED around the time the PS5 releases, so I'm in for a real treat either way.

That is pure scumbag marketing IMO. I really do despise the company that Sony is.

They want to create a false sense that supplies are limited to drive initial sales which they will then market again as "hey!, look at our awesome sales"

Companies that use tactics like this I tell to suck a huge male apendage.

I wish everyone would not fall for this garbage but we live in a generation where everybody has to be first so they can make their social media vids/pics.

I won't be giving Sony a dime of my money. I'll miss out on a handful of good exclusives but I have so many game to play that I don't care

Ratchet and Clank has a non 4K but 60FPS mode, imagine some inbetween resolution like 1440p but upscaled.

Either way I'll be going with the 60fps mode, now if only Java Cool Dude could tell the rest of the developers in the world to offer both options, I'd be much happier.

Really getting concerned about PS5 not managing 4K60 on launch titles. AMD garbage should have been thrown out with this gen of consoles.

Developers were never going to prirotise 60fps, Graphics sell consoles, not framerate.

If you can make a better looking game visually, they will. Framerate is a secondary concern.

Give me smooth, good looking game play and I'm happy regardless of frame rate. I've only run into one title on the ps4 pro where being limited was really noticeable to me.

Sure it's marketing..but if I can get something out of the Sony/MS bloodbath I'll take it lol.

Besides, I've never enjoyed a new console straight out of the gate. I think it would be nice to be in on the intial beta testing period for once.

Not for new games, but I think a choice between [email protected] "resolution mode" or [email protected] "performance mode" is reasonable.

With VRR, it just needs to stay near the target FPS.

GPU seems to be performing at a 1080/2060 level so about 300. Not sure about ram but a 32 GB cost me about 120 bucks. Add other components that are mass produced, you can possibly sell it for 500-600 as launch price with software making up for initial per unit losses.

But what do I know? I will be even OK to pay up to 650 for it as I got a lot of value out of my PlayStation consoles in the past.

I think people do expect it especially since that's what (next-gen) seemingly touts in all the advertising. Toppling the competition is the game they all play.

It's just never possible at that particular point in time.

Claims are always above the possibilities but are expected eventually and they do happen but way later be it in new iterations of hardware or at the end of a cycle of hardware due to understanding of said hardware and software optimizations which go hand in hand.

I remember many game on the Commodore 64 being absolutely awesome and now seeing them in action makes me remember them like it was some glamorization or fantasy that tricked my mind into believing what I see now was not what I saw then.

Suspension of disbelief and immersion is always high maintenance on an exponential scale of technology. We can't keep up but are expected to.

I was pleasantly surprised at the IQ my PS4 puts out on a less than quality, low budget 4k TV.

If that's improved on at all, and the games look great and play smoothly, call me a happy camper.

That, and the mileage I've gotten out of the PS4 consoles I've had. Do it again please.

I have a very good quality 82" 4k tv with VRR and my Xbox One X looks amazing on that. Can't wait for the Series X.

We've gotten so spoiled these days. It wasn't long ago that we paid the equivalent of MORE money than we do now on games and a lot of them could be beaten within hours. Now we have games that take massive teams to make and can take 100+ hours to completely beat
