Finally finished Horizon - Forbidden West. Here is my mini-review of the game. Overall it's an amazing world. Huge and beautiful over almost every square inch. A ton of love went into all of the details. In this way, it's like no other game I played. At 60fps it was smooth and gorgeous. It had deep canyons, deserts, snowy mountains, jungles, and beaches. All representative of real life western US locations. Transitions between biomes were seamless and overall one of the best map designs ever built for any game. Quests were interesting and engaging. I did almost all side quests. A lot of the other activities weren't as fun though. I tried a few and that was enough for me.
Now the bad stuff ...
Combat was engaging but what were they thinking with all the combinations of weapons and effects. You could rename the game 95 different ways to kill 48 different machines. All of them were fun in their own way. But, WHY SO MUCH! It created the most confusing inventory and weapon wheel every invented. This was complete overkill and unnecessary. As the game wore on I stuck with about 5 or 6 techniques that working 99% of the time. I turned the difficulty down not because I it was too hard to kill enemies. It just became too tedious to tear parts before killing machines. Next game, please simplify!! I liked the valor system. I found a few good ones and they were game changers when used. And, fun to use. Just cut down the number of weapon types and elemental damage types!
The story was not good. Ending was rushed and contrived. It was intriguing but the ending was just too unbelievable for a number of reasons. It made all the build up seem pointless. Some of the characters were decent and all of the different tribes were unique. They need to spend a little less money on combat designers and more on script writers. Quests and side quests are a different story. Most were excellent and interesting. Although, the sum of all main quests landed with dud in my opinion. They had me interested all the way up to the last quest where they totally failed to stick the landing.
Overall, I'd still recommend playing the game. Maybe watch a few videos on combat and skills though to help with learning curve. After playing the entire game I do still recommend Performance Mode. There are, especially in the canyons of the first level, some shimmering blowing grass. But, the rest of the map doesn't have the issue and the 60FPS was perfectly smooth in all situations. And the graphics look amazing. There are some great moments and the most impressive open world map I have ever played. But because of the weak main story and overcomplicated combat I'd rate it 7.5/10.
Hint: Braced shot is super overpowered. Abuse it for easy kills!!

7.5/10. Gtfo. Your opinion is invalid.
J/K.
For me game was dope. Spent so much time in it. About ending it was also fine for me. Can’t wait for sequel. Script had its quirks and I was fine with it as well.
I really didn’t have challenge with combat. I played normal difficulty and realized very early on how the game should’ve been played. Combat was one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game for me.
I would love to play this again on PC with proper graphics and keyboard and mouse controls.

I know last boss fight/twist was not the most well developed and can see why you drop the rating for story. However, the lead up to it and the whole being able to fly thing really delivered. It was one of the most memorable moments for me to take a Sunwing and land on a Tallneck to reveal things. Just dope af.
But yes, when sequels and dlc hit, I will be all over them like cream on cheesecake.

It’s good for tv but for gaming might not be your best purchase.
What was your rationale for choosing this over say a C2?
Especially with the current model prices being slashed making room for the new models.
Let me first say I don't hold brand loyalty and this is actually my first Sony TV.
From all the research I did I just found the Sony to be the overall slightly better TV.
I won't make use of the LGs 4 2.1 hdmi. I also wouldn't make use of the better input lag
which really is splitting hairs anyways.
I know dimming gets brought up and I haven't even noticed(i've read sony addressed it with updates) it yet while gaming some long sessions.
I believe this is where the differences stop now that Sony has VRR.
I found(and seems to be the consensus) that the Sony has better PQ, motion, and well tuned presets out of the box.
This is a bedroom TV and it'll probably be a 50/50 split between gaming and watching movies/TV. So this was important to me.
Also the Speakers are miles ahead of the LG(or any TV for that matter). I actually can't believe how good they are.
I don't use a sound system in my bedroom so this is a nice bonus. Also the LG run really warm where the Sony operates much cooler. I don't even feel heat coming off of it.
The PS5 is a space heater itself in smaller rooms so this was a plus also. Other things which are subjective
is I do not like the UI or magic remote of the LG. I find the Sony to be more pleasing aesthetically and I like the remote of the Sony better. I favor Google over WebOS.
I won't be returning it lol.Last edited by Tyr-Sog; Apr 28, 2022, 03:59 PM.Justin

Cool thanks. Seems these days Samsung S95B (or whatever) is the rage.
Sony you won’t need to return until it blows up.
Had 1 Sony TV in my life and it had power supply blow up before the 1 year was up. My parents also had a Sony that didn’t last it’s 3 years and kept running into issues. You should also see how much NASCAR loved his Sony tv (not OLED). Also when I was buying Sony didn’t even have HDMI 2.1. Finally, for me input lag is very noticeable and something that was the decider for me to stay with my C9 and CX when I purchased them in 2020.

Screw Sony and their fake HDMI 2.1. Will never buy a Sony TV again.Although it appears alot of the issues is the mediatek chipset as SONY isnt the only ones with the problem, but SONY lies out their teeth and states performing as intended. I should at least be able to trade it for credit for their X90J model which acually has working 120Hz.

You still can't find one of these. Is it still scalpers? Is it still a chip shortage as well? Once and a while, I see an update my city's subreddit about a GameStop getting around a dozen in being sold as bundles. They don't last an hour. I am still not in a rush, and when I am ready for sure to get one (6 months to 12 months), I expect to be able to trot into BB or Walfart and just grab one. That is starting to feel like an unrealistic expectation!i5 4670 Haswell <> Gigabyte radeon 280x <> 8 gigs of some ram that happened to be on sale that week <> Asus Z87-K <> Some DVD burner that has been used for 3-4 computers - might be a pioneer <> Winblows 10 Now!

even if i'd be in the market for one (which i'm not) i wouldn't pay more than 600€ for one. Everyone around me gave up on nabbing one LONG time ago. Now all of them are no longer interested. It's completely ridiculous. Sony really f*cked that one up.
