Seems the exclusives are not slated till middle of this year. There is literally nothing on the horizon to play on both the consoles.

The latest God of War just got a 4K(checkerboard)/60FPS patch today. It might be time for new game plus while waiting for new games to come out.

Sony is now saying chip shortages may prevent them from meeting annual sales numbers of PS5. It seems very possible that shortages may continue through summer. I want one but not that bad to deal with the annoyance. Maybe by the time they are actually hitting the shelves the PS5 Pro will be coming out.

Some might say they could have easily delayed the console launches a few months but for what? I think they desperately wanted to launch before the holidays to get some of the financial hit back of making a new system.

It takes a huge amount of planning, investment, manufacturing, etc. to launch a console and I'm sure they didn't plan on having such a widespread global pandemic throwing a wrench into their plans.

There's nothing wrong with either machine...games are taking longer to make and I'm sure the pandemic isn't helping with this on any level.

Actually I'm kindof amazed that the console launches have been as successful as they were during the pandemic. Last spring, I was sure that they'd have to delay them by a year.

The difference in GPU power is pretty low. It might result in some resolution and FPS difference later. But nothing yet, and I'm not exactly surprised given how early we are into this. Just you wait, those optimizations will come eventually

Honestly I was surprised how small the gap in graphics quality was between the xbone and the PS4, where there was quite a large gap in GPU power. Similarly between the PS4pro and the xboneX. I think we've gotten to a point of GPU diminishing returns, and now it takes a pretty large difference in GPU power to make even a small difference in quality... and that optimization is almost always able to get you most of the way there.

Actually I was too easy to judge and sold my Xbox Series X for profit cause I thought there wouldn't be a performance difference in games. Oh boy was I wrong on that one.

Still though, doesn't hurt to wait a bit when more games will make use of its power. Until then, I might as well stick with PS4 Pro and my current Ryzen 3700 + 5700XT PC. It's not like I am missing much cause the games I will be playing this year won't make much use of raytracing (if at all) anyway.

It's actually a lot more than you think. Series X has 44% more shader cores all with full RDNA 2 features that the PS5 doesn't have...like Sampler Feedback, Mesh Shaders, Variable rate Shaders, etc. Plus the Series X GPU has access to higher bandwidth memory.

Microsoft was very late with their GDK and it hasn't been around as long as Sony's has. It'll take some time but if a dev truly uses the Series X to it's fullest it'll be significantly more powerful than the PS5

It may have "more" but it's like comparing a 6800xt to a 6900xt, on paper stuff is faster, doesn't mean it's noticeably faster in practice though, without having to resort to pixel counting and checking out shadows etc.

Of course XSX is going to be the overall winner all the time, or at least should be.

In AC XSX did worse than PS5 afaik.

Anyone got a USB hard drive connected to your PS5 and end up with the Blu-ray disc not being read on bootup? I'm not the only one as I read a post on reddit about it and they claim its maybe an OS issue with a hard drive plugged in. Haven't tested without my drive plugged in yet. But once I eject and put the disc back in it works fine. Was just curious if others here experienced this with a hard drive connected.

The difference in GPU power is pretty low.

Digital Foundry recently did some tests with Control Ultimate Edition on the new consoles. They used the photo mode which removes the 30FPS cap and it becomes more of a GPU benchmark. The differences range anywhere from within a frame or two to up around 36% in favor of Series X. The average was around 16% for the Series X over PS5.

The Series X has been hampered by a late and immature GDK as well as some developers choosing to maintain parity (Control for example is identical between the two and locked to 30FPS). There's also been several instances of strange bugs resulting in worse performance and/or worse visuals on the Series X which were later fixed (Dirt 5 and AC Valhalla come to mind). Hitman 3 turned out to be better on the Series X vs the PS5 which was a welcome change of pace.

The simple, joyful, act of buying the latest console - a twice-decade dopamine hit like no other - has become a rage-inducing misery in 2020 and 2021.

Why? Because of scalpers who employ fast-buying bots to scoop up hundreds of consoles in the time it takes for your finger to press “order”.

They are using increasingly sophisticated bots to do this and becoming more organised to spot opportunities, often working in large groups. For regular gamers who want to buy a console, this has caused huge frustration and anger towards scalpers who are profiting from reselling consoles at huge markups.

But scalpers I’ve spoken with say their intentions are misunderstood and their negative public image isn’t justified.

“There seems to be A LOT of bad press on this incredibly valuable industry and I do not feel that it is justified, all we are acting as is a middleman for limited quantity items.” said Jordan, who co-founded The Lab, a private group that advises paying users on how to scalp (known as a “cook group”).

Middleman is if you're actually selling rare items that are rare in the first place, not buying 99% of the stock yourself and then selling it as a rare item.

Final Fantasy VII Remake coming with March PlayStation Plus, will not receive free PS5 upgrade

It appears that the cat has been let out of the bag regarding March's PlayStation Plus offerings, thanks to a premature leak on the PlayStation Netherlands Facebook. As spotted by Nibellion, next month will allegedly see PS Plus subscribers bag Sony's Farpoint VR, Annapurna's Maquette, Gunfire Games' Remnant: From the Ashes, and, as previously rumored, Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake.

In a notable disclaimer, however, it appears that players bagging the PS Plus version of FFVII Remake will not receive the free upgrade to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, as premiered during last night's State of Play presentation. The upgrade will only be for players who purchased a full retail or digital copy of the award-winning adventure.

Regardless, it's still a very hefty premier release for PS Plus subscribers, and will give many people yet to revisit the world of Midgar in all of its revisioned splendor the perfect opportunity to get reacquainted with one of the finest adventures in video game history.

I saw this last month regarding scalpers and shortages. I still blame scalpers, but this suggests they aren't responsible for as much as (I) want to blame them for. Even so, I would still love to see them shut down 100% somehow.
