I had both systems in my cart at walmart and couldn't reel them in

and I don't want either of them currently...I'm just pissed I can't get a 3080

This chaos, according to a new report from Business Insider, was largely driven by “scalper” groups who competed to see how many units they could buy up before reselling the units for exorbitant prices.

One group called ‘CrepChiefNotify’ managed to secure nearly 3500 units after using bots to amass as much stock as possible both at pre-order and when the console officially launched last week.

The group is one of many which uses these bots to monitor retail sites to determine when stock will drop, then buy up as much stock as possible faster than any human would be able to.

Not only is the group able to resell the most sought after stock, including high-demand fashion items and limited edition ranges, but they also sell subscriptions to their service which offers “botting guidance and access to our in-house bot-slots”.

I thought there were some type of laws in place against such practices.

Looks like the bottom memory gets very hot (approaching 100C) when the console is running with a room temp that's fairly low (22-23C)..I'd imagine that could be a problem for people that will be using the system in warmer environments or with fairly poor ventilation.

What I'd be interested in seeing is how hot the NVMe expansion area will get...I can't tell if that area is ventilated at all or very well

From one tear down I saw the expansion slot sits next to the fan. Air will be pulled through the expansion compartment.

I wouldn't call gambling on slot machines exactly analogous with overpaying for something from a scalper.

Agreed, but that seems to be a big trend now. Nobody can ever wait for anything, there is no patience any more. Everyone has to have everything RIGHT NOW. But maybe that's a different topic too.

Ironically, my dad just won $900 from a slot machine couple weeks ago, and on his birthday too.

I dunno, I haven't seen anything clear that shows airflow through there...I'm sure there is but it almost looks like it's a contained area with little to no airflow. I'm just surprised that nobody has clearly shown that area and discussed cooling (from what I've seen)

Some PS5 owners are accidentally playing PS4 versions of their games.

ony’s PlayStation 5 can download and play both the PS4 and PS5 versions of games.
Some PS5 owners are accidentally playing the PS4 version of the game instead of the next-gen version because the console doesn’t make it very clear which version you’re playing.
There’s only one icon for every game on the dashboard even if you have both versions installed, so make sure you choose the right option from the menu before you play.
One of my favorite features of the PlayStation 5 user interface is apparently confusing some early adopters.

Many of the new games coming out this fall are launching with last-generation versions and new-generation versions, such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The PS5 is backward compatible with a vast majority of PS4 games, which means both versions of the game will be playable on your brand new console. The problem is that unless you know what to look for, you might be playing the wrong version.

As spotted by VG247, Activision Support tweeted out the following helpful hint on Saturday, just one day after Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launched on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC:


In order to save room and make the UI less cluttered, Sony stores every version of any one game under the same icon on the dashboard. In other words, even if you have the PS4 and PS5 version of Call of Duty or Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales installed, you will still have a single icon for that game. In order to switch between versions of the game, you can follow the steps above, but the PS5 apparently does not make that clear enough, and thus many PS5 owners have been playing the last-generation versions of their games on accident.

Unless you’re paying close attention to the text at the top of the screen when you start up a game, there is no clear indication that you’re playing one version of a game or the other. Plus, by the time you’re actually playing a game, the only real differences between the versions are visual, so unless you know the difference between 30FPS and 60FPS, there’s a good chance that you’ll never be any the wiser that you are playing a PS4 game.

This also goes to show just how different this generational upgrade is from previous ones. The first PS4 games don’t hold a candle to the video games that came out near the end of the generation, but the graphical improvements were obvious right away. That’s not always the case on the PS5, which focuses more on higher frame rates and sharper resolution. These upgrades aren’t going to be as readily apparent, especially if you have an older TV.

1. Highlight the game tile on the Dashboard

2. Scroll down and highlight “Play”

3. Select the 3 dots and open the menu

4. Select “PS5 | Full | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War”

...it defended its actions and claimed that many of its members were struggling financially but could now “put food on the table” thanks to PS5 profits.

Finished Spider Man Miles Morales. Wow what a great game albeit very short compared to the first. Still got a lot of sides left to do. But really enjoyed it. Also it is truly a pure RTX showcase. Better than anything on PC tbh. 9.5/10.

On nVidia hardware the game would truly shine.

Dude whatever you did was amazing! Honestly even though the frame rate was low but how it is hidden a bit behind the blur etc is amazing. Also the effects and lighting was movie like. Many times my wife thought I was watching an animation during the cutscenes. Just absolutely phenomenal. I will be booting up original Spider Man to see how much work you guys have done on that and if it also has RT. I have not read anything about it.

What has the battery life been like on the DualSense controller? I've seen figures all over the place and most of them aren't very good (similar to DualShock 4)

When I saw a few teardowns of the controller the battery pack looked massive but it's only 1560mAh which isn't much considering the size. I've seen cellphone batteries the same size with like 2300mAh or more. I'm guessing it's because the casing is fairly large

Mine easily lasts 12–14 hours before charge. For example I finished Spider Man in mostly 1 day - about 6 hours playthrough without a charge. Before that my son played for about 2 hours as well and controller still has maybe 2 bars. This is about same as a DS4. I didn’t feel any difference in needing to charge more often.

The patent, titled "Scalable Game Console CPU/GPU Design for Home Console and Cloud Gaming" describes a concept console with two GPUs and two CPUs. It uses those extra chips to divide and conquer — letting one GPU handle HDMI frame output after receiving info from the other GPU.
