Is this accurate? No 1440p support? It's not a huge deal breaker, but the TV I was looking at doesn't have hdmi 2.1, so 120hz at 1440p was what I was hoping for, but I guess that might not be doable now...any input to help clear my early morning foggy thoughts?

Seems to be accurate from the various sites I've been reading through. I'd imagine you'll have to just use 1080p/120Hz for games. I know I'll be using 1440p/120Hz on my Samsung tv and Series X so it sucks that Sony won't support that resolution but it's not surprising.

Looks like Sony is making people wait (dunno how long) for a future update until the internal expandable storage option is enabled. Until then you'll have to stick with the 660-odd GB of internal or use an external USB drive

Some of the NVME drives have large heatsinks on them because of the heat they generate and it will be interesting to see just how many make the cut Sony is requiring... I know that the "Memory Card" for the Series X has been laughed at, but $219 with the bells and whistles of it "just" working seems fairly straight forward, no need to research, no need to hope and wait....

Meanwhile, Xbox Series X pre-reviews are out to mostly good marks sans a few minor quirks and lack of real next gen games, but Sony is in that boat as well....

Also looks like Sony is confirming that there will be no PS5 consoles sold in stores at launch and that everyone who wants to get one will have to order online and have to contend with bots and all the people who are home all day and have access to online stock trackers and various software to scoop up units as soon as they appear. Gonna be a lot of sad Playstation fans this holiday season it seems...scalpers are gonna rejoice

Jeez, that's a bunch of not so great news guys. I'm getting the feeling I'll be happy waiting until after the new year rings in. I've had great luck with Sony's consoles so far. No need to push my luck just yet lol.

Sony was quick to send out my free PSVR adaptor I put in for last week for the PS5, figured I wouldn't see that for a month. Due for delivery on Sunday.

I just talked to the wife as she was going to try to score either the console or the TV for Christmas for me...I'm going to cross this one off my list for now.

Yeah I'm not sure why that decision was made. I'm sure they will be correcting it because that's a huge oversight.

Me thinks that they're trying to save data writes/reads... these SSDs are built into the motherboard of the console.

Sony's is solder to the motherboard so that could be. XSX from reports is not.

Still no charge from Amazon. It does say that its arriving Thursday, I hope that's true. I had to cancel the one from PS direct because I noticed too late that the address was wrong and couldn't be modified so close to release.

In the e-mail they sent it says when the launch date arrives, 2020-11-12, they will moved it to the warehouse where it will be shipped. I don't expect them to ship it before Thursday and that also say it will take 3 - 5 Business days to be delivered. So i would say expect it only by middle next week

Digital Foundry review says that VRR is not available on the PS5. I hope this is going to get patched in fairly quickly. I thought that was a promised feature on the PS5.

There's quite a few things that aren't available and not sure how many of those Sony can or will even change.

Obviously Sony will eventually enable the internal expansion but they may never allow 1440p resolution for example. A bunch of other things they can't because they're missing the hardware features like Variable Rate Shaders, Machine Learning (which AMD doesn't have ready yet), Mesh Shaders, Sampler Feedback, etc.

Adding 1440p is "easy", HOWEVER will they listen? Xbox has had 1440p for a long time and people bugged sony to add it to PS4.They're Still waiting.

Yah that's what I mean...I believe a lot of games ran at 1440p on PS4 Pro but for some reason Sony never supported that resolution. They seem to be of the mindset that gamers only hook up their consoles to TVs and Tvs don't support 1440p. There a millions of Samsung TVs (different models) out there that do (perhaps others) and lots of people hook up to monitors.

No Dolby vision or Atmos either? I thought atmos was going to be supported, so I guess I'm glad I haven't bought speakers yet.

edit: Atmos can still be run through the TV even if the console doesn't support it I believe, but will games come through atmos or default to a lower/another spec? I know nothing about it so questions....
