It's about in line with other PCIE 4 NVME 1TB drives. Maybe a small premium for its proprietary nature.

Be prepared to pay out the ass too for similar storage on the PS5. Speed requirements are going to be steeper.

But the parts will be generic. So the price will follow the market. Where as the Xbox one is proprietary and it's price may never fall if no one else is ever allowed to release them.

It's still going to be pricey for a while regardless.

AFAIK Seagate only has exclusivity with the add-on card for a set amount of time then others will be able to make them. They'll obviously have to go through a certification process though.

In China, knock off drives will be available after 6 months or so.

Godfall will require an internet connection. I wonder what that's for.

Those drives have to meet the internal speeds exactly or they probably wont work. so they better be very good knockoffs.

I am definitely getting one. But the launch titles so far aren't compelling. I'll probably just avoid the rush as my PS4 pro is doing fine for now.

PS5 breakdown.. They are trying hard to keep this thing cool. Hopefully over time it doesn't turn in to another jet engine.

                                        Still hate it's design.

                                          Two things:
I love how easy it is to remove side plates and potentially swapping them for something better.
It's crazy how simple the PS5 is on the inside!

I think the greater risk is the expandable NVMe slot.. how are they going to keep it cool? MS went with their approach and built a heat sink into their expandable drive. they get very hot .

Same here. I figure by the time stock has stabilized in stores we'll have a good idea of bugs/issues etc. I hope they're few for the folks that will have them, but I can wait.

I gotta admit it does have a ton of cheap looking plastic in it...way more plastic than the Series X.

While part of me thinks it's cool to have those big (ugly to me) panels replaceable do we really need a whole lot more plastic in landfill and the oceans just to make something look better? The plastic in those panels seems like as much as the whole Series X system would have total.

Sony did put a huge expensive heat sink in that thing and coupled it with liquid metal. Just makes me think that all those rumors about Sony overclocking the system as much as possible after the Series X reveal to be true. I'd imagine there will be a LOT of heat needed to be dissipated. Not sure how well the whole system will do on that front but the heat sink looks good.

As other have said I'm not sure how high end NVMe drives will do long term cooling wise...guess we'll all find out over the next while

What I DON'T expect...is to be able to walk out of a store with one without some clown wanting to fight for it. Yes. It's happened here before. Black Friday deals lol.

My point is after the warranty. I've personally gone through 2 nvme drives on my laptop alone and another two SSDs that failed similarly in friends and family computers that weren't all that old or abused even though my first SSD is still going strong over some 6 years later.... Failure rates on this type of storage is less than mechanical means, but still not completely ruled out.

I get the reason they integrated it into the board for their blazing fast speeds, but it's essentially buying a whole new board if any component fails which doesn't seem the cheapest to fix for their warranty department or you years down the road.

The listing has a November 19 release date affixed to it, which makes sense considering that's the international launch date for the PS5 and most of its launch titles. At the time of writing, the listing is still live and viewable, and the fact that it hasn’t yet been taken down may speak to its legitimacy. Additionally, the Media Markt retailer is quite a credible source, as it's one of the best-known retailers in the region.
