Halo5 sucks, btw, so there is no guarantee here.
I liked it once I switched to KB/Mouse

So I've been predicting for awhile now that the new consoles will be making a play to compete more with PC gaming, and that this will require fast framerates and m+k support. We've seen a bit of movement on this front with xbox finally allowing some m+k support over the last couple of years, albeit for a limited selection of games.

So they've just announced m+k support on xbox for the master chief collection, plus cross-play, which is actually kindof huge. I assume Halo Infinite will have m+k support too. https://www.polygon.com/2020/8/3/213...keyboard-mouse

This basically means that for Halo, you can stick a new xbox on your work desk and have the full PC experience... and heck you can do it with an old xbox too, and get the same experience with lower image quality.

So there's already some notable games that support m+k on xbox. I've bolded the ones that are particularly interesting for me. I think I may hook my old xbox one to my desktop monitor and try it out just to get a feel for the experience.

Of course that's still a small list, and I wish that Doom & Doom Eternal were on it... I suspect that Doom Eternal will get an enhanced patch for the nextgen consoles, and maybe we'll get m+k support then?

Another thought: ms been doing amazing things with their backwards compatibility efforts, and nowadays it's not unthinkable that they could start bringing in m+k support through their bc program. It'd be neat to see them offer good m+k support for old xbox360 games that we never would have expected... especially if they can also bump up the framerates.

16:9 and 120hz is soo 2019, 16:10/16:10 ultrawide at 144hz+ is what matters in 2020.

It would be cool if the new consoles had UWQHD/UWQHD+ support, ultrawide is more immersive than 4k.

Which screen(s) are you referring to?

The 38" screens from LG(lg38wn95c/38GN950).

They do lack proper hdr though.

Yes I am not impressed by LG and Samsung offerings especially the UW ones.
Plus OLED vs LCD is no competition.

Worst kept secret lol..

Also on the box is the rebranding of Xbox One S to just Xbox One. All those that were so confused can now rest easy that grandma won't make a mistake buying the wrong console for little Timmy.

Series X is the only one that anyone should consider. Not sure why gays will opt for Series S. Is the latter faster than X1X?

It depends on the $$.

Depends on the price, GPU wise it's probably similar to X1X however it's CPU and everything else is much faster.

It's probably targetting 1080P users, and if you can get next gen graphics but at 1080P for like 250, instead of 500.

It's a smart move in this environment at the moment where you have 25-30 million suddenly unemployed in the US, and many with a much tighter budget.

Of course in Europe/asia etc where there was hardly any unemployment wont make much different, but we shall see.

Yes it'll be faster and more feature rich than the X1X but will be targeting 1080-1440p.

Not for long, I think, unless they can drop the price to 100 bucks.

Halo Infinite delayed to 2021....

2020: The year of delays

It's the right choice if it's not ready, but it's still quite a bummer.

This.

Unfortunately, this leaves Xbox series x with no must-have game for launch. Hopefully they can have some really 4k updates ready at launch for a bunch of popular xbone games. Hopefully they'll have Panzer Dragoon Orta and Unreal Championship 2 running in 4k.

I dont see buying any games at launch, going to be picking up the Series X and be done with buying for quite a while using game pass which is paid through Aug. 2022.

I'll be getting PS5/XSX at launch, slowly transitioning away from PC gaming, I'll get used to the shittier framerates.

With my sister using gameshare sharing the costs on both platforms I'll be getting PS+ and ultimate cheaper, and can split the costs on AAA games.

Roughly the same experience for much cheaper prices.

When a 35" OLED comes out, then I can put it on my PC desk.

Yah, I have close to 200 games now on my One X (that will play even better on Series X) and I have Gamepass (thanks to many good deals over the past few years) until July 2023

I'll be good for a long time

I think this maybe the main reason I don’t get a PS5, don’t really like putting out $60 for every new release and they want to raise that price. That and the fact I don’t think I get my money’s worth out of most of my games as I have a ridiculous amount of games I have never even played. I probably finish about 2 percent of the games I own.

The thing that can save performance on this console is how the MS equivelant of DLSS holds up. If it's as good as quality or 99% the same as native then Xbox is going to be leaps beyond PS5 in graphics.

IF Sony doesn't have a similar solution.

CPU is no slower than Desktop Ryzen but that's to be expected, also seems it's based on RDNA 1, but eh.

500-600 is guranteed at this point, I'll buy one anyway.

I was hoping on an outside chance of $399 Guess I'm still going to have to pony up $230 or $340 real money for this. I think they are pushing the boundaries of console gaming if they go $600 though. Definitely wont be buying both at a $600 price tag each.

I think the guy's commentary about supposed similarities to RDNA1 is only going to give people the wrong idea. They'll just start claiming it's RDNA1, like you have here. This is the first RDNA2 chip we've seen in detail. It appears to be an evolution and not a completely new design (on the outside at least, per the author's words).

I just don't see them pricing it at $599. It's basically suicide. They've already mentioned they're not going to make a mistake like that and they want to undercut Sony. Even if they have to take some kind of loss on the hardware it'll be $500 max.

There's a reason why Sony or MS haven't mentioned the price yet, for sure it's not going to be below 500. IF it is, then great saves me money.

But we have a CPU that's almost as fast as a 3700X however with some features removed, a GPU that's almost 2080ti level, and a NVME drive which alone usually costs 120-150.

So I have a hard time believing this is going to be anything but 500-600.

Though I'm quite happy to be proved wrong and it's 400.

I can see things breaking down like this:
Series S: $300.
PS5: $500
Series x: $600

As long as each console's performance is in line with the price, it'll be fine.

They both realize how important it'll be to competitively price their hardware considering the economic beating that's happened around the world this year. I believe they're both playing a game of price chicken...Microsoft doesn't NOT want to launch with a price much different than Sony this time and both companies know they can only afford to cut their price so much without taking a financial beating themselves.

I believe that the price of the Series X will depend heavily on what Sony prices the PS5 at. I don't know who'll flinch first but they won't be able to keep the price secret for too much longer.

If Sony launches at $499USD then Microsoft will likely stay very close to that, perhaps $549 max. If Sony launches at $599USD then I believe Microsoft will match it or maybe just slightly undercut it to minimize their financial hit

I can see things breaking down like this:
Series S: $300.

As long as each console's performance is in line with the price, it'll be fine.
The PS5 isn't more powerful than the Series X so there's no worries there

If not, they will both be exactly the same price. When your coming from an underdog position your not going to price it higher then your competitor.
