I'm not a Zelda fan so that wouldn't be a system seller for me.
Mario Kart MIGHT might have been (I bought my Wii-U bundled with Mario Kart) but I have the exact same game minus the good battle mode pretty much.
Its gonna take more to get me into a Switch. Maybe sometime down the line but not at launch or until there's more noteworthy titles to my liking.
Visually, the differences I've seen are minimal IMO. Switch version looks slightly crisper, with better colors. These games are all about gameplay and art STYLE to me, so technical prowess is not really a factor with Nintendo games. Just give me the full game with no content stripped out and I'll play it on a toaster. Plus, will be nice to put my Wii U to good use, rather than getting yet another console that of which I really have no room for right now. Also, the portability of the Switch is a total non-factor to me. I never play games anywhere but on my couch at home and don't intend otherwise.

I can't tell any quality difference between the two.
The Splatoon 2 footage definitely looks better than Splatoon. Crisper textures possibly, almost certainly a fancier shader on the paint.
The Gamespot guy covering Mario Kart who said it's his favorite series said the Switch version of MK8 looks like it had slightly lower resolution textures. He was going of of memory but seemed pretty confident.
They seem close enough that it's hard to say whether hardware limitations are actually a factor in any of these comparisons.

Frame rate and aliasing seem better on the Switch, but just barely. There are some drastic light changes though (and LOD usage).Originally posted by General LeeI've been praying for your nuts.Originally posted by General LeeIf you must listen to country [music], play it backwards. Mmmm love that Nintendo Tax.
Pro Controller $70
Each Joy-Con is $50 or $80 for a pair!
Grip is $30
Replacement Dock (mind you its only real function is AC and HDMI Output) is $90"The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits." -- Albert Einstein

PlayStation tax is just as bad, let's not forget vita memory cards, and it's assortment of accessories.
Replacements docks are over priced and I can't see the point of it.
Joy cons are a bit Overpriced But all controllers to me are. Overpriced these days.
FYI the controllers last 20 hours so at least quadruple the power of my ds4damn controller is good but goddamn it's battery.

The more I think about the switch the more I have come to realize this is a new handheld that CAN be docked to a TV. Nintendo is even marketing it as such based on the presentation. Taking that into consideration then the graphic quality is actually pretty stellar.Plex / Steam Machine / Hyper-V

This is what they should have been playing at a lot more. Nintendo is getting a lot of flack for calling this a home console which can be taken on a trip. While this doesn't fly it is also stupid to call it a pure portable with docking possibilities.
I think they just should have come out to say they will quit the traditional home console market. That they don't want to compete in a purely performance and power based market. That the technology is advancing so fast that it has made it possible to offer something which enables a homeconsole like experience, being more capable than their last home gen but also enabling on the go gaming. That it is finally feasible to give people home console quality and fidelity on the go. That switch is just that: neither home, neither portable and a true hybrid. Compromises had to be made, like battery life and not giving a bigger jump over the last home console they made but that the experience this offers is awesome.Feel the Heat Frying your brain

Been a few days now since the presentation and I think I've decided what I'm going to do.
I will be skipping the Switch at launch, and hoping the Mario Odyssey game gets sold as a pack in/bundle game with the console around the 2017 holidays. If so I will buy it then.
Honestly, most new console launch lineups suck, so its no going to be DOA because of that. I mean, how many console's in the history of gaming had good launch lineups? So I don't think that's a problem. But, if Nintendo was launching the Switch in March with both Zelda and the new Mario game I think it would have helped them immensely. I sure as hell would have preordered it.
So yeah, I'll be buying Zelda for the Wii U at release, and holding out until end of 2017 to consider buying the Switch console when Mario will be released and the hope for a bundle. Something tells me a lot of other people are going to do the same, and in that case I expect the Switch to get off to a slow start and then really ramp up sales this coming holiday season with the new Mario and other titles released by then.

Yeah, the launch window lineup is actually pretty strong relative to other consoles of the past. A major Zelda and Mario, plus Splatoon 2 by December puts it in a better spot than most consoles at their first holiday season.
Since Nintendo is terrible at under-predicting how much to produce, coming out in March instead of November may help them manage this launch better.
I don't believe the manufactured scarcity theory (except in the case of Amiibo) as it makes no financial sense whatsoever. Consoles aren't collectors items. More people want a console when all their friends have one, not when almost no one has one. They don't want to miss out on the games their friends are playing and talking about. And companies want as much money as possible, as soon as it is possible.

The more I read things like this the more I am discouraged with the switch. I really had high hopes, but I am starting to agree that Nintendo just doesn't get it.

I have not preordered a switch, and I guess it is too late for that now.
If that is true I'd wager that the Wii U version will be quite polished and stable when its released.

I think Nintendo keeps making consoles primarily because they make a lot of money off of them. I wished they'd go software only, but maybe they don't think that's as profitable overall.

The amount of whining is just baffling me.
Like the above picture. People love to say you shouldn't compare the systems when it's not convenient, just as much that you should when it fits their agenda. It's a ludicrous comparison but hey, it generates some laughs. Also the amount of first world problems dragged into this is insane.
For example: ZOMG you need a different joycon dock to charge them, WTFBBQSAUS, so Nintendo, so stupid! Now I must shell out another 30 for this, screw that! I'm not going to buy it.
The controllers in fact last about 20 hours on a single charge, so that's what, two times the battery life of the PS4 controllers? Don't you stop playing games for a few hours somewhere in between?
I can't help but think people are searching for stupid reasons to defend not having to buy one. If you don't like the concept of taking your console on the go, this is not for you. No amount of switcheroo will convince you otherwise, so don't pretend.
In the meanwhile tablet manufacturers are still charging $200 for lackluster tablets and everyone is fine with that. Phone makers charge an arm, leg and kidney for a fricking phone with meh specs, no support and low storage and people sacrifice their first born to get one every freaking year.
I just don't get it and me not getting it drives me insane.Feel the Heat Frying your brain

As for Tablet Manufactures charging $200 for a lackluster tablet... you know that's the price of the Nvidia Shield Tablet that the Switch basically is (minus the better display, more powerful hardware and larger battery).
BTW this year I bet we get unlocked phones with more powerful hardware than the switch as well as better displays for the same (if not cheaper) price.
The internals of the switch are already two years old, stop trying to pretend they are not.
What I don't get that drives me insane is the amount of apologist there are for Nintendo. Their fans are OK with them constantly rehashing the same ****ing games year after year and putting out "new" hardware that is years old in tech already just because of IP that have been meh for years now."The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits." -- Albert Einstein

The whole phones will get better hardware thing always gets me when you may get 20 year old pc ports, or candy crush. Woopee
20 hours is more than enough for a controller and yes Nintendo said it, even if it turns out to be 18 hours you're telling me it's too ****ing hard to put them back on the machine to charge?
There's Nintendo apologists and then there's company shills for the opposite spectrum.
Also who seriously compares a tablet hardware to a console? Besides stupid people I mean.
Oh no my xperia z5 isn't as fast as my pc, but costs nearly half as much. Goddamn what a slow pile of crap.
There's plenty of wrong which Nintendo is doing but the hardware isn't one of them.Fantards the scourge of the universe:

You bring the Nvidia shield tablet into this as a comparison, which costs $199, has a slightly bigger screen and higher resolution and bigger battery. On the other hand it has halve the RAM, halve the storage, comes with no controllers or accessories and game support is meh and/or requires a PC to stream. I don't think the Switch is cheap but running around and yelling how stupidly expensive it is, is a bridge to far.
You say it is old tech and therefore should be much cheaper. And I give you the fact that it isn't running a cutting edge chip as far as we know right now, but how old is the tech in PS4 and XBOXone exactly?
I don't think that's apologetic, but the fact there is a double standard everywhere where and when it fits the agenda.Feel the Heat Frying your brain

I have a Wii U. I am going to stop buying games for it immediately. I also have a 3DS. There are still lots of good games for it that I don't have yet so I will probably keep buying them. That should tell you the state of the Wii U library...
I'll get a Switch if for no other reason than it's what the Wii U should have been and it will have Breath of the Wild at launch.Last edited by ShaidarHaran; Jan 17, 2017, 08:25 AM.Praise be to the God and father of our lord Jesus Christ! You want to play big third party titles? That's what the other platforms are for. You want to play Nintendo titles and try innovative new stuff, get a Nintendo platform.
What the Switch needs is for third party developers to make games specific for the Switch. If that pans out for Nintendo this time, unlike what happened with the Wii U with all developers abandoning it, then it will be a success.
