Maybe I need to give it a go. I am spending too much time on my PS4 and PC combined that no time for switch. Plus I don't have commutes/off home time to actually be bothered with playing on a small screen.

I work 10 hours drive to work and back one hour, have a 8 month old baby, and still completed zelda. Switch is the perfect machine for those short on time.

Yeah it definitely seems to be. If I had a Switch to bring to work with me I probably would have finished Zelda months ago.

You can always hang out with the family while they're watching their kid crap and casually play around on your switch in the living room. I'm assuming thats what the target market for the switch is.

FFS, how in the hell does it take over an hour and a half for a 6.3Gb download on a 100 mb/s connection? It's 2017 there is no excuse for Nintendo's online services to be so poor.

I haven't had download issues with it. I downloaded Mario x Rabbids in like 5 minutes. I'm sure it wasn't maxing out my connection though.

I must admit that I did not see doom and the new wolfenstein getting ported to switch.

Its really nice its getting some current gen stuff. Lets see how cut down the games are though... its probably going to run at 30fps with a significant reduction in resolution and fidelity.

Im still salty about 30fps NBA 2k18. I paid for a full PC version yesterday... I would have loved to have it on the go. Hopefully next year they can optimize it to do 60.

As far as games the only thing left on the horizon that I want for the switch right now is Mario Odyssey....nothing else I can think of that I will purchase.

I love Metroid, but the old 2D style. I have been trying to get into the Prime series but I just do not like fps on consoles. The games have charm and are well made but the controls and FOV are atrocious.

Too bad that new Metroid II remake for the 3DS isn't coming to Switch, or is it? Looks fantastic.

Eh, if its the only way to play a great game what's the problem?

If getting heavy back into retro gaming lately has proved anything to me its that visuals mean very little, and fun gameplay is everything.

We'll see more 3rd party support for switch now that it looks like a success. We'll see if 3rd party games sell though... since they haven't traditionally on the gamecube, Wii, or WiiU.

I think the portability of the device is very compelling though, even for hardcore gamers. I expect Doom to do very well on Switch.

Yeah I was just going to say, that the fact its portable is the difference here with the Switch. For the past couple generations its always been better to buy 3rd party games on other platforms for the most part. Now Nintendo has a good reason for why you'd rather buy on their platform. Very smart of them and why they are the leaders of hardware innovation.

i know i am getting doom and wolfie. i dont care if i have it on pc also. this is a good idea for bethesda. smashing up some doom and nazis on the go sounds incredible

I think it depends on the game. Something like Doom is a great fit, since it's really about the intense action gameplay. Honestly I don't care if the graphics fidelity drops, even if it drops alot. As long as they maintain the 60fps, fast gameplay, lots of enemies on screen, etc., then I'd prefer to have the portability over the graphic fidelity.

Contrast that with a really cinematic game, like the new Tomb Raider. Actually the graphical presentation is really critical to that game, so I want to play that on a big-boy console with high graphical fidelity on a really big screen. In that case it really matters how much the graphics are diminished on Switch.

My issue is that some of the multi platform games on it cost more. Fate for example can be found for $20 on Vita, $30-40 on PS4 and $60 on Switch.

Is that because they're releasing old games as if they were new (like Doom), or is it because those little cartridges cost more to manufacture? Or just Nintendo's traditional high-royalty requirements?

The problem is that I don't like handhelds, especially ones with an extremely low quality tn panel with a resolution that is far too low for the size of the screen thanks to the whole glasses free 3d thing.

I also never found the thing particularly pleasant to hold, I get cramps from it.

I played mine on a long ride to houston , and then back after the flood. i love how fast it charges, or even stays charged well. Played zelda , and then 1-2 switch games in a van full of kids is quite the experience.

Nintendo Switch is next gen?

Is current gen enough?
Doom seems to think so.

Aside from the whole off-screen vs direct capture quality which is skewing the image quality, there is some obvious differences in textures, and lower polygon counts. But otherwise it looks like the Console that I imagined Nintendo to have, something that has *enough* power to run some of the multiplats vs the PS4/Xbone, and not with a last gen vs next gen disadvantage.

It's prolly as optimized as it can get on the platform!

Don't get me wrong, it's amazing they're able to do it at all, and if I had no other way to play the game I'd prolly go for it on Switch.

But for me, the 60fps is a really critical feature. If I can choose any other platform for Doom at 60fps, I'll take that instead of the Switch version. For this game in particular, the 60fps is more important to me than the portability.

Rumour is that is its 720p docked and undockednwith. No differences if that's the case then it's not massively optimised.

I'd probably get it but I want snapmap, couldn't give two shits about multiplayer but no snap map and the 60 price tag is the deal breaker for me. Might get it when it's on the cheap.

Jet.com still has switches in stock from yesterday. I was tempted to pick one up, but there's still no games that I'm super excited about. I'll prolly pick one up sometime next year.

Honestly if Splatoon had splitscreen I'd prolly have jumped in.
