Seems like the potential end of Minecraft on Playstation

Notch is selling the Minecraft development group to Microsoft. As far as I am aware, MS has never supported a game on a competing console, so I am thinking this means the end of updates for the Playstation Versions. I might guess that the Android and iOS versions would also be on the ropes.

I think that's the whole point of buying them. Wouldn't be much point except to keep 'em off PS4.

This doesn't make sense to me. The game JUST launched on PS4. If they have been in talks to sell off the company to MS for a while now then why even release it on PS4? They would be required to issue refunds if they revoke the PS4/PS3/Vista license.

They might not revoke the licence. They might just stop further development.

Or they can make Minecraft 2 a Windows platform (PC, Xbox, phone) exclusive.

Good to know. Was about to buy Minecraft on PS4 for my son. No longer.

The official statement does say this:
What about the other editions of Minecraft? Will they stop being developed?
There’s no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android versions of Minecraft to stop. Of course, Microsoft can’t make decisions for other companies or predict the choices that they might make in the future.
                So there´s that.
Not a guarantee they wont muck up the deal with 4J Studios that are developing the console versions, but no plans to stop development on any of the platforms at this point.

MS currently shifting towards being a software company again, not a devices company. So Minecraft from Microsoft being on multiple platforms, is directly up MS current software direction.

However, I am in the extreme minority, and I understand that there is something fundamentally wrong with me

I would not mind them going multi platform, buying a nintendo console to play those <10 games that I'm personally interested in got old a decade ago.

They are multi platform, you have a 3DS and a Wii U.
