    PS3 installing to harddrive

    Is this an option that you can actually pick if the game supports it? I assume it'll say on the back if it does, but holy god games take forever to load on this thing. The Last of Us is taking 3-4 minutes before I can actually play it.

    6600k|16GB of GSkill|500GB 850 Pro|Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 |Asus Z170-AR|Windows 10 64 Enterprise

    360 games

    Lose = Be careful not to lose that.
    Loose = The bolts are loose.
    There = She is there now.
    Their = They have their things.
    They're = They're going to the mall.
    To = They came to the house.
    Too = That's too bad.
    Two = 2.
    Your = Your dinner is ready.
    You're = If you're 150lbs you'd better have a 6 pack.

    Sadly you cant install to the Harddrive on the PS3, only on the xbox 360
    Old PS3 games had to be installed onto the HD you had no choice in the matter but all the latest games run from the BR disc only, might be cause exclusive PS3 games are upto 50gb in size. Xbox games are on DVD so probably most are 4-9gb in size so it uses a lot of space to install on the PS3 but who knows why it could not be an optional thing.

      Have you thought about getting a cheap 250GB SSD and installing it in the PS3?

      I feel your pain bro. MGS4 has 8 minute load screens where SS smokes a cigarette.

        I don't think there is a cheap 250GB SSD just for use in a PS3 I have a 250GB SSD in my PC and it was still well over $100.

        I guess I'll just have to deal with it, I didn't think it was this bad. Between that and all the updates I have to do all the time, jesus.

          You can always opt for a hybrid 2.5" sata drive. I believe seagate makes those. I think they are called the momentous series. Benchmark wise they are a bit faster than the fastest 7200rpm drives you can get for the ps3.

            Will that help anything though? Isn't the bottleneck the optical drive or just sheer data volume needed for load?

            One of the reasons I haven't played Last of Us in a while was that exact reason. Sitting around twiddling my thumbs for 5 minutes isn't fun.

              No as it's reading the data from the disc you're limited to the blu-ray read times.

              Personally I only found the initial load time to be really a bit too long, the level loads really didn't feel too long at all when playing.

                Last of us only took about a minute or two to load. Once done, it never loads anything so don't know how or why you are experiencing 3-4 minute loads. Suggestion is to finish the game in a single session...

                  Won't that depend on how you bought the game? Because you can get full games via download on the PS Store.

                    You're points relevant if the question is whether a game installed directly to hard drive will load faster than one running from Blu-ray.

                    If the quesion is whether installing a faster hard drive than the stock one will make a game that runs directly off Blu-ray faster then my answers relevant.

                      pretty much the only way is to get a jailbroken PS3 and viola...all games running off the hard drive.
                      Intel Core2Quad @3.5ghz. 6 gigs DDR 1600 ram. Geforce GTX 680. 5TB hdd. Soundblaster x-fi.
