post some impressions since probably I can't check it out until tomorrow night.

I'd swear the PC is the Dracula of gaming. Old and powerful, somebody is always trying to kill it, but it always comes back from the dead, strong as ever.

Downloaded and just started playing. It has a Shenmue feel to it. It feels good to be a new ps3 owner. Im enjoying every minute of its exclusives. Still playing through MGS4. I feel bad that I only paid $24 for it.
I must say, i do like the combat, took me a while to get used to it but battling and finally beating the mysterious foriegers was especially satisfying......after my 30th attempt
EDIT: This game has peaked my curiousity. I hope in the final game there are more moves to learn.
A tip for you guys, use the progagonists weapons on the tougher baddies.
Yup there are quite a bit of moves to learn even in the demo. I was wacthing some gameplay vids from gametrailers. I didnt know if you knock someone down, you can grab there feet and do that Wolf (from VF) 360 leg throw. The only game killer for me is that I hate reading sub-titles especially in games, because it feels like something from the nes days. I just hope in the full release they have english actors like in Shenmue.

well, the first yakuza had an english dub, but the second was released a bit cheaper with subs only as the first game didn't sell. neither did the second. sega are releasing yakuza 3 with subs only because they know this game won't sell either. looks like we'll never get kenzan or yakuza 4 unless sega decides to just keep throwing money away on the series.
just played the demo and it was very interesting.
I thought it was mixture of Street Fighter with GTA. graphics are nice, controls are simple, but sub-titles are distracting so I will wait for it to be 20 bucks or so before buying it.
I laughed when the character was saying 'oh oh oh' during Karaoke

I was on a demo frenzy tonight after trying Heavy Rain, and I played this one as well. I had only heard of the Yakuza series mentioned briefly as a "Japanese GTA/RPG game" and that's exactly how I'd describe it.
The battles are fun, and it seems like the full game will have a lot of side-quests and things to get distracted by as well.
But, with the exception of the cutscenes, the game felt very clonky and the graphics weren't all that great. The non-voiced parts are also rather lame, even if the voices are Japanese.
I'd maybe pay $20 for the game just to check it out, but I'm for sure not paying $60.
Maybe when I die
I get to be a car
driving in the night
lighting up the dark.
Don't get me wrong, I really love the Yakuza series, but I can see where criticisms can be made. Graphics aren't really that great, movement is pretty robotic, and you have to read huge amounts of text. It's perfectly acceptable in Japan, but over here, we tend to expect higher production values. But you gotta appreciate how much there is to do in the game. And the tie-ins they have with real world Japanese restaurants, shops, etc really give it an authentic feel. Maybe it's because I lived in Japan for a year, but I somehow feel nostalgic while walking through the virtual city. The story is great, and combat is a blast - I never get tired of smashing some thug's head into a wall, then stomping on their face when they hit the ground lol. You'd think they'd be dead after that, but no, they just apologize, give you money, and are on their way. And the way you learn new techniques - by capturing special "events" with your cellphone, is hilarious as well. Really looking forward to Yakuza 4
